I picked up the photo and studied it while Deanna set about rifling through her brother's chest of drawers. Physically, she looked the same in the picture, perhaps only a couple of years younger. Yet there was something perceptibly different about her in the photo that it took me a moment to decipher. She appeared to be much younger. She was smiling wide, her chin on her brother's shoulder. It was the eyes! They weren't vacant, but there was an innocence in them that only children have. It was that simplicity of childhood that made her look so much younger. She hadn't been burdened by the world yet, or responsibility. It was the look everyone has before they realize the world is real and not always full of wonders.
