I think it's important to know you're wanted, maybe even needed, don't you? Gives you somethin' to hold on to when you're off in a strange place.

He'll sit stock still for hours if there's something to occupy his mind--something loud and blaring, like a computer game or an action movie. But sit still and read a book? Or just look at the stars? I've known him since he was nine and I've never seen that happen for more than five minutes straight.

God, would you just come here, Kate? I'll behave, I promise. It wrecks me to see you cry and not be able to hold you. Or if you can't do that, go to him and let him hold you. I'm making a bloody mess of everything.

What ladder? There's a fire escape?" I hadn't even considered that possibility--I mean, really, what homicidal maniac would include fire escapes in the design plan for his torture castle?"

As I'm reading Katherine's historical diaries, every now and then I'll see a question that Katherine asked, like, 'Who is the Infanta?' or 'What is a simoleon?'" "In SimCity, a simoleon is money," Trey interjected."

He is, however, picturesque. The colors of the Coors Light can are an almost perfect match for the streaks of silver-white in his beard, the blue of his shirt, and the red of the baseball cap, now hanging from one rail of his rocking chair. He looks like something that Norman Rockwell might have painted if he woke up in a really pissy mood.

So, you're sort of like a reverse Shawn Spencer? The guy on that show from a while back who claimed to be psychic, but he's really just seeing the stuff other people could see, if they paid closer attention?" "Sort of." "Do you have a cool black sidekick who's actually smarter than you and keeps you grounded in reality?"

I know they're doing their jobs. In many cases, they even go above and beyond. But a lot of them don't seem to understand that the system they're enforcing isn't always fair and what looks safe may be just a convenient illusion.
