Chapter 31
Isai DRC 31:1  Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, trusting in horses, and putting their confidence in chariots, because they are many: and in horsemen, because they are very strong: and have not trusted in the Holy One of Israel, and have not sought after the Lord.
Isai KJV 31:1  Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
Isai DRC 31:2  But he that is the wise one hath brought evil, and hath not removed his words: and he will rise up against the house of the wicked, and against the aid of them that work iniquity.
Isai VulgClem 31:2  Ipse autem sapiens adduxit malum, et verba sua non abstulit ; et consurget contra domum pessimorum, et contra auxilium operantium iniquitatem.
Isai KJV 31:2  Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Isai DRC 31:3  Egypt is man, and not God: and their horses, flesh, and not spirit: and the Lord shall put down his hand, and the helper shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall, and they shall all be confounded together.
Isai VulgClem 31:3  Ægyptus homo, et non deus ; et equi eorum caro, et non spiritus ; et Dominus inclinabit manum suam, et corruet auxiliator, et cadet cui præstatur auxilium, simulque omnes consumentur.
Isai KJV 31:3  Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
Isai DRC 31:4  For thus saith the Lord to me: Like as the lion roareth, and the lions whelp upon his prey, and when a multitude of shepherds shall come against him, he will not fear at their voice, nor be afraid of their multitude: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight upon mount Sion, and upon the hill thereof.
Isai VulgClem 31:4  Quia hæc dicit Dominus ad me : Quomodo si rugiat leo et catulus leonis super prædam suam ; et cum occurrerit ei multitudo pastorum, a voce eorum non formidabit, et a multitudine eorum non pavebit : sic descendet Dominus exercituum ut prælietur super montem Sion et super collem ejus.
Isai KJV 31:4  For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
Isai DRC 31:5  As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts protect Jerusalem, protecting and delivering, passing over and saving.
Isai VulgClem 31:5  Sicut aves volantes, sic proteget Dominus exercituum Jerusalem, protegens et liberans, transiens et salvans.
Isai KJV 31:5  As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.
Isai DRC 31:6  Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.
Isai VulgClem 31:6  Convertimini, sicut in profundum recesseratis, filii Israël.
Isai KJV 31:6  Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
Isai DRC 31:7  For in that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your hands have made for you to sin.
Isai VulgClem 31:7  In die enim illa abjiciet vir idola argenti sui, et idola auri sui, quæ fecerunt vobis manus vestræ in peccatum.
Isai KJV 31:7  For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
Isai DRC 31:8  And the Assyrian shall fall by the sword not of a man, and the sword not of a man shall devour him, and he shall flee not at the face of the sword, and his young men shall be tributaries.
Isai VulgClem 31:8  Et cadet Assur in gladio non viri, et gladius non hominis vorabit eum : et fugiet non a facie gladii, et juvenes ejus vectigales erunt.
Isai KJV 31:8  Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.
Isai DRC 31:9  And his strength shall pass away with dread, and his princes fleeing shall be afraid: the Lord hath said it, whose fire is in Sion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Isai VulgClem 31:9  Et fortitudo ejus a terrore transibit, et pavebunt fugientes principes ejus, dixit Dominus : cujus ignis est in Sion et caminus ejus in Jerusalem.
Isai KJV 31:9  And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
