Chapter 31
I Sa DRC 31:1  And the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelboe.
I Sa VulgClem 31:1  Philisthiim autem pugnabant adversum Israël : et fugerunt viri Israël ante faciem Philisthiim, et ceciderunt interfecti in monte Gelboë.
I Sa KJV 31:1  Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
I Sa DRC 31:2  And the Philistines fell upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchisua, the sons of Saul.
I Sa VulgClem 31:2  Irrueruntque Philisthiim in Saul et in filios ejus, et percusserunt Jonathan, et Abinadab, et Melchisua filios Saul :
I Sa KJV 31:2  And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi–shua, Saul’s sons.
I Sa DRC 31:3  And the whole weight of the battle was turned upon Saul: and the archers overtook him, and he was grievously wounded by the archers.
I Sa VulgClem 31:3  totumque pondus prælii versum est in Saul, et consecuti sunt eum viri sagittarii, et vulneratus est vehementer a sagittariis.
I Sa KJV 31:3  And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
I Sa DRC 31:4  Then Saul said to his armourbearer: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest these uncircumcised come, and slay me, and mock at me. And his armourbearer would not: for he was struck with exceeding great fear. Then Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.
I Sa VulgClem 31:4  Dixitque Saul ad armigerum suum : Evagina gladium tuum, et percute me : ne forte veniant incircumcisi isti, et interficiant me, illudentes mihi.
I Sa KJV 31:4  Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
I Sa DRC 31:5  And when his armourbearer saw this, to wit, that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.
I Sa KJV 31:5  And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
I Sa DRC 31:6  So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men that same day together.
I Sa VulgClem 31:6  Mortuus est ergo Saul, et tres filii ejus, et armiger illius, et universi viri ejus in die illa pariter.
I Sa KJV 31:6  So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
I Sa DRC 31:7  And the men of Israel, that were beyond the valley, and beyond the Jordan, seeing that the Israelites were fled, and that Saul was dead, and his sons, forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt there.
I Sa KJV 31:7  And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
I Sa DRC 31:8  And on the morrow the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons lying in mount Gelboe.
I Sa KJV 31:8  And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
I Sa DRC 31:9  And they cut off Saul's head, and stripped him of his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the temples of their idols and among their people.
I Sa KJV 31:9  And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
I Sa DRC 31:10  And they put his armour in the temple of Astaroth, but his body they hung on the wall of Bethsan.
I Sa VulgClem 31:10  Et posuerunt arma ejus in templo Astaroth, corpus vero ejus suspenderunt in muro Bethsan.
I Sa KJV 31:10  And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth–shan.
I Sa DRC 31:11  Now when the inhabitants of Jabes Galaad had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
I Sa VulgClem 31:11  Quod cum audissent habitatores Jabes Galaad, quæcumque fecerant Philisthiim Saul,
I Sa KJV 31:11  And when the inhabitants of Jabesh–gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
I Sa DRC 31:12  All the most valiant men arose, and walked all the night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Bethsan: and they came to Jabes Galaad, and burnt them there.
I Sa KJV 31:12  All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth–shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
I Sa DRC 31:13  And they took their bones, and buried them in the wood of Jabes: and fasted seven days.
I Sa VulgClem 31:13  et tulerunt ossa eorum, et sepelierunt in nemore Jabes, et jejunaverunt septem diebus.
I Sa KJV 31:13  And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
