1:1  In the third year of the reign of Joakim, king of Juda, Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem, and beseiged it.

1:2  Panovník Hospodin mu vydal do rukou judského krále Jójakíma a část nádob z Božího domu. Nebúkadnesar je dopravil do země Šineáru, do domu svého božstva; nádoby dal dopravit do klenotnice svého boha.

1:2  Hospodin mu vydal judského krále Joakima do rukou a s ním i část vybavení Božího chrámu. Nabukadnezar je s sebou odvezl do chrámu svého boha v Babylonii a uložil je v chrámové pokladnici.

1:2  Panovník Hospodin mu tehdy do ruky vydal judského krále Jójakíma i některé předměty domu Božího, on je vzal s sebou do země Šineár, do domu svého boha, a ty předměty přinesl do chrámové klenotnice svého boha.

1:2  I vydal Pán v ruku jeho Joakima krále Judského, a něco nádobí domu Božího. Kterýž zavezl je do země Sinear, do domu boha svého, a nádobí to dal vnésti do domu pokladu boha svého.

1:4  jinochy bez jakékoli vady, pěkného vzhledu, zběhlé ve veškeré moudrosti, kteří si osvojili poznání, rozumějí všemu vědění a jsou schopni stávat v královském paláci a naučit se kaldejskému písemnictví a jazyku.

1:4  zdravé a krásné, v každém ohledu bystré, vzdělané a učenlivé, kteří by mohli sloužit v královském paláci. Takové měl učit babylonskému písemnictví a jazyku.

1:4  mladíky, kteří nemají žádnou vadu, hezkého vzhledu, rozumné v každém ohledu, vzdělané i chápavé, kteří jsou schopni sloužit v královském paláci a učit se chaldejskému písemnictví a jazyku.

1:4  Mládence, na nichž by nebylo žádné poškvrny, a krásného oblíčeje, a vtipné ke vší moudrosti, a schopné k umění i k nabývání jeho, a v kterýchž by byla síla, aby stávali na palácu královském, a učili se liternímu umění a jazyku Kaldejskému.

1:5  Král jim nechal stanovit denní dávku z královského přídělu a z jeho banketního vína, aby je tři roky vychovával a někteří z nich aby sloužili králi.

1:8  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not be defiled with the king's table, nor with the wine which he drank: and he requested the master of the eunuchs that he might not be defiled.

1:10  And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel: I fear my lord, the king, who hath appointed you meat and drink: who if he should see your faces leaner than those of the other youths, your equals, you shall endanger my head to the king.

1:10  And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

1:10  Velitel dvořanů však Danielovi řekl: „Bojím se krále, svého pána, který vám určil pokrm a nápoj. Když uvidí, že jste v tváři přepadlejší než jinoši z vašich řad, připravíte mě u krále o hlavu.“

1:10  ale ten mu přesto odpověděl: „Bojím se svého pána. Sám král určil, co máte jíst a pít. Co když uvidí, že vypadáte hůř než vaši vrstevníci? Král by mě kvůli vám připravil o hlavu!“

1:10  Přesto řekl vrchní komorník Danielovi: Bojím se svého pána, krále, který vám nechal stanovit jídlo a pití. ⌈Jestliže uvidí, že vypadáte přepadleji než mladíci vašeho věku, připravíte mě u krále o hlavu.⌉

1:10  A řekl správce nad dvořany Danielovi: Já se bojím pána svého krále, kterýž vyměřil pokrm váš a nápoj váš, tak že uzřel-li by, že tváře vaše opadlejší jsou, nežli mládenců těch, kteříž podobně jako i vy chování býti mají, způsobíte mi to u krále, že přijdu o hrdlo.

1:10  And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your provision and your drink: for why should he see your faces more meager than the children who [are] of your sort? then will ye make [me] endanger my head to the king.

1:11  And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias:

1:11  Daniel tedy navrhl opatrovníkovi, kterého určil velitel dvořanů nad Danielem, Chananjášem, Míšaelem a Azarjášem:

1:12  „Zkus to se svými služebníky po deset dní. Ať nám dávají k jídlu zeleninu a k pití vodu.

1:15  Po uplynutí deseti dnů se ukázalo, že jejich vzhled je lepší; byli statnější než ostatní jinoši, kteří jedli královské lahůdky.
