8:1  The wisdom of a man shineth in his countenance, and the most mighty will change his face.

8:1  Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

8:1  Kdo se vyrovná moudrému a kdo zná výklad věcí? Moudrost prosvítí člověku tvář, i tvrdost jeho tváře se změní.

8:1  Kdo se může poměřovat s moudrým, kdo umí vyložit každou věc? Moudrost člověku rozjasňuje tvář, i jeho tvrdé rysy obměkčí.

8:1  Kdo si počíná jako moudrý a kdo zná výklad slova? Lidská moudrost rozjasní jeho tvář a ⌈tvrdost jeho tváře⌉ bude proměněna.

8:1  Kdo se může vrovnati moudrému, a kdo může vykládati všelikou věc? Moudrost člověka osvěcuje oblíčej jeho, a nestydatost tváři jeho proměňuje.

8:3  Neodcházej náhle od něho, nestůj při zlé věci; neboť on může učinit všechno, co se mu zlíbí.

8:3  Neopouštěj ho ukvapeně, nepřipojuj se ke vzpouře – vždyť může učinit, co si zamane!

8:3  ⌈se neunáhli. Až budeš od něj odcházet,⌉ nezůstávej ve zlém záměru, protože on učiní všechno, co chce;

8:8  Není člověka, jenž by měl svého ducha v moci, nezadrží jej, nemá moc nade dnem smrti; z toho boje není východiska, svévole nezachrání toho, kdo ji páchá.

8:8  Nikdo neovládne vítr, aby jej lapil, dnem svojí smrti nikdo nevládne. Nikdo nemá úniku z té bitvy, zlosyn se nezachrání ani zločinem.

8:8  Není člověka panujícího nad větrem tak, že by zadržel vítr, nikdo ⌈nemá pravomoc nade dnem smrti,⌉ ⌈nemůže se vyhnout boji.⌉ A ničemnost ⌈nepomůže těm, kdo ji páchají.⌉

8:9  To všechno jsem viděl, když jsem si předsevzal zabývat se vším, co se pod sluncem děje v čase, kdy má člověk moc nad člověkem a působí mu zlo.

8:9  Tohle všechno jsem viděl, když jsem obrátil svou pozornost k veškerému dílu, které se konalo pod sluncem: Čas, kdy člověk panoval nad člověkem k jeho škodě.

8:9  Ve všem tom viděl jsem, přiloživ mysl svou ke všemu tomu, co se děje pod sluncem, že časem panuje člověk nad člověkem k jeho zlému.

8:10  Hned nato jsem pohleděl na pohřbené svévolníky; přicházívali a odcházeli ze svatého místa a ve městě se zapomínalo, jak jednali. Také to je pomíjivost.

8:10  Viděl jsem, jak se strojí pohřby zlosynům, kteří opustili svatyni; na ty, kdo konali dobro, si ale ve městě nikdo nevzpomněl. I to je marnost!

8:10  Přitom jsem viděl pohřbené ničemy, že přicházeli; odejdou ze svatého místa a budou zapomenuti ve městě, kde správně jednali. Také toto je marnost.

8:12  Hříšník páchá zlo třeba nastokrát, žije však stále dál a dál. Ano, vím: Dobře se povede bohabojným, neboť žijí v bázni před Bohem.

8:14  There is also another vanity, which is done upon the earth. There are just men to whom evils happen, as though they had done the works of the wicked: and there are wicked men, who are as secure as though they had the deeds of the just: but this also I judge most vain.

8:14  There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

8:14  Další pomíjivost, která se na zemi vyskytuje: Jsou spravedliví, které jako by poznamenalo dílo svévolníků, a jsou svévolníci, které jako by poznamenalo dílo spravedlivých. Řekl jsem si, že i to je pomíjivost.

8:15  I vychvaloval jsem radost, protože pro člověka není pod sluncem nic lepšího než jíst a pít a radovat se. To ho provází při jeho pachtění ve dnech života, které mu Bůh pod sluncem dopřál.

8:15  Proto, ať žijí radovánky! Vždyť člověk nemá pod sluncem jiné štěstí než jíst a pít a přitom se radovat. Jen to mu totiž zbývá při jeho pachtění v těch pár dnech života, které mu pod sluncem Bůh dal.

8:15  A tak jsem oslavoval radost, neboť pro člověka není nic lepšího pod sluncem, než jen ⌈aby jedl, aby pil a aby se radoval.⌉ To ho bude provázet při jeho námaze ve dnech jeho života, které mu dal Bůh pod sluncem.

8:15  A tak chválil jsem veselí, proto že nic nemá lepšího člověk pod sluncem, jediné aby jedl a pil, a veselil se, a že to pozůstává jemu z práce jeho ve dnech života jeho, kteréž dal jemu Bůh pod sluncem.

8:16  Jakmile jsem si předsevzal poznat moudrost, viděl jsem, co je na zemi lopoty; ve dne ani v noci člověk neokusí spánku.

8:17  And I understood that man can find no reason of all those works of God that are done under the sun: and the more he shall labour to seek, so much the less shall he find: yea, though the wise man shall say, that he knoweth it, he shall not be able to find it.

8:17  Spatřil jsem též, že veškeré dílo Boží, dílo, které se pod sluncem koná, není člověk schopen postihnout; ať se při tom hledání pachtí sebevíc, všechno nepostihne. Ani moudrý, řekne-li, že zná to či ono, není schopen všechno postihnout.

8:17  Tehdy jsem viděl: Vše je Boží dílo! Člověk nepochopí, co se děje pod sluncem. Jakkoli se za tím pochopením pachtí, nikdy je ale nemůže postihnout. I kdyby mudrc tvrdil, že to ví, ani on to nemůže nikdy pochopit.

8:17  viděl jsem veškeré Boží dílo, že člověk nedokáže postihnout dílo, které se koná pod sluncem; když člověk usiluje posoudit to, nepostihne to. Ani když moudrý řekne, že to zná, nedokáže to postihnout.

8:17  A však viděl jsem při každém skutku Božím, že nemůže člověk vystihnouti skutku dějícího se pod sluncem. O čež pracuje člověk, vyhledati chtěje, ale nenalézá; nýbrž byť i myslil moudrý, že se doví, nebude moci nic najíti.

8:17  Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man may labor to seek [it] out, yet he shall not find [it]; yes further; though a wise [man] thinketh to know [it], yet shall he not be able to find [it].
