12:1  But behold there arose a sedition in Ephraim. And passing towards the north, they said to Jephte: When thou wentest to fight against the children of Ammon, why wouldst thou not call us, that we might go with thee? Therefore we will burn thy house.

12:1  And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.

12:1  I svolali se efrajimští muži a táhli k severu. Vyčítali Jiftáchovi: „Proč jsi táhl do boje proti Amónovcům a nezavolal jsi nás, abychom šli s tebou? Zapálíme ti dům nad hlavou!“

12:1  Efraimští muži se zatím sešikovali a překročili Jordán směrem k Cafonu. „Proč jsi nás nepozval, abychom šli s tebou, když jsi táhl do boje proti Amoncům?“ vyčítali Jiftachovi. „Zapálíme ti dům nad hlavou!“

12:1  Efrajimští ⌈muži byli svoláni, táhli⌉ na sever a řekli Jiftáchovi: Proč jsi táhl bojovat proti synům Amónovým, a nás jsi nezavolal, abychom šli s tebou? Tvůj dům nad tebou spálíme ohněm.

12:1  And the men of Ephraim assembled, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, Why didst thou pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee; we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

12:1  The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, "Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house on you with fire."

12:1  Ecce autem in Ephraim orta est seditio : nam transeuntes contra aquilonem, dixerunt ad Jephte : Quare vadens ad pugnam contra filios Ammon, vocare nos noluisti, ut pergeremus tecum ? igitur incendemus domum tuam.

12:2  And he answered them: I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon: and I called you to assist me, and you would not do it.

12:2  And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.

12:2  K nimž řekl Jefte: Nesnáz jsem měl já a lid můj s Ammonitskými velikou; tedy povolal jsem vás, ale nevysvobodili jste mne z ruky jejich.

12:2  And Jephthah said to them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.

12:3  And when I saw this, I put my life in my own hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon and the Lord delivered them into my hands. What have I deserved, that you should rise up to fight against me?

12:3  And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

12:3  Když jsem zjistil, že mě nevysvobodíte, nasadil jsem vlastní život a táhl jsem na Amónovce. A Hospodin mi je vydal do rukou. Proč jste tedy dnes na mě vytáhli? Abyste proti mně bojovali?“

12:3  Když jsem viděl, že mi nepomůžete, nasadil jsem vlastní život, vytáhl jsem proti Amoncům a Hospodin mi je vydal do rukou. Proč jste dnes za mnou přišli? Bojovat se mnou?“

12:3  Když jsem viděl, že mě nezachráníte, ⌈vystavil jsem tedy svůj život nebezpečí,⌉ táhl jsem na syny Amónovy a Hospodin mi je vydal do ruky. Proč jste na mě tohoto dne vytáhli, abyste proti mně bojovali?

12:3  Protož vida, že jste mne nevysvobodili, odvážil jsem se života svého, a táhl jsem proti Ammonitským, i dal je Hospodin v ruku mou. Ale proč jste dnes přišli ke mně? Zdali abyste bojovali proti mně?

12:3  And when I saw that ye delivered [me] not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: why then have ye come up to me this day, to fight against me?

12:3  When I saw that you did not save me, I put my life in my own hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?"

12:3  And when I saw that you delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me?

12:3  Quod cernens, posui animam meam in manibus meis, transivique ad filios Ammon, et tradidit eos Dominus in manus meas. Quid commerui, ut adversum me consurgatis in prælium ?

12:4  Then calling to him all the men of Galaad, he fought against Ephraim: and the men of Galaad defeated Ephraim, because he had said: Galaad is a fugitive of Ephraim, and dwelleth in the midst of Ephraim and Manasses.

12:4  Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.

12:4  Jiftách shromáždil všechny gileádské muže, bojoval s Efrajimem a gileádští muži Efrajima pobili. Ti totiž říkali: „Vy Gileáďané jste efrajimští uprchlíci, zmítáte se mezi Efrajimem a Manasesem.“

12:4  Jiftach tedy shromáždil všechny gileádské muže a pustil se do boje proti Efraimovi. Gileádští muži na ně udeřili, protože Efraimci říkali: „Vy Gileáďané jste jen uprchlíci z Efraima – uprostřed Efraima a Manasese!“

12:4  Pak Jiftách shromáždil všechny gileádské muže, bojoval s Efrajimem a gileádští muži pobili Efrajimce, protože řekli: Vy Gileáďané jste efrajimští uprchlíci ⌈uprostřed Efrajima a uprostřed Manasesa.⌉

12:4  Tedy shromáždil Jefte všecky muže Galádské, a bojoval s Efraimem. I porazili muži Galád Efraimské, nebo pravili poběhlci Efraimští: Vy Galádští jste u prostřed Efraima a u prostřed Manassesa.

12:4  Then Jephthah collected all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites [are] fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, [and] among the Manassites.

12:4  Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh."

12:5  And the Galaadites secured the fords of the Jordan, by which Ephraim was to return. And when any one of the number of Ephraim came thither in the flight, and said: I beseech you let me pass: the Galaadites said to him: Art thou not an Ephraimite? If he said: I am not:

12:5  And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;

12:5  And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was [so], that when those Ephraimites who had escaped, said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, [Art] thou an Ephraimite? If he said, No;

12:5  The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, "Let me go over," the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he said, "No";

12:5  And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No;

12:5  Occupaveruntque Galaaditæ vada Jordanis, per quæ Ephraim reversurus erat. Cumque venisset ad ea de Ephraim numero, fugiens, atque dixisset : Obsecro ut me transire permittatis : dicebant ei Galaaditæ : Numquid Ephrathæus es ? quo dicente : Non sum :

12:6  They asked him: Say then, Scibboleth, which is interpreted, An ear of corn. But he answered, Sibboleth, not being able to express an ear of corn by the same letter. Then presently they took him and killed him in the very passage of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim, two and forty thousand.

12:6  Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

12:6  vyzvali ho: „Tak řekni šibbolet!“ On však řekl: „Sibbolet“ a nedokázal to přesně vyslovit. Tu ho popadli a zabili při jordánských brodech. Toho času padlo z Efrajima čtyřicet dva tisíce mužů.

12:7  And Jephte, the Galaadite, judged Israel six years: and he died, and was buried in his city of Galaad.
