Chapter 1
Dani Noyes 1:1  In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, against Jerusalem, and besieged it.
Dani Noyes 1:2  And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
Dani Noyes 1:3  And the king commanded Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the sons of Israel of the king’s race, and of the princes,
Dani Noyes 1:4  youths in whom was no blemish, and well favored, and skilful in all wisdom, and having knowledge and intelligence and strength, to stand as servants in the king’s palace, and be taught the writing and the language of the Chaldaeans.
Dani Noyes 1:5  And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s food, and of the wine which he drank; so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand as servants before the king.
Dani Noyes 1:6  Now among these were, of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
Dani Noyes 1:7  And the prince of the eunuchs gave them other names. To Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
Dani Noyes 1:8  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Dani Noyes 1:9  And God gave Daniel favor and kindness from the prince of the eunuchs.
Dani Noyes 1:10  And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink; for he might see your faces in worse condition than the youths of your age; then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
Dani Noyes 1:11  Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Dani Noyes 1:12  Try thy servants ten days, and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
Dani Noyes 1:13  Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the youths that eat of the portion of the king’s meat; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Dani Noyes 1:14  And he consented to them in this matter, and tried them ten days.
Dani Noyes 1:15  And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the portion of the king’s meat.
Dani Noyes 1:16  So the steward took away the portion of their meat, and the wine which they should drink, and gave them pulse.
Dani Noyes 1:17  And God gave these four youths knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
Dani Noyes 1:18  And at the end of the days, when the king had commanded him to bring them before him, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
Dani Noyes 1:19  And the king conversed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood as servants before the king.
Dani Noyes 1:20  And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the scribes and magicians that were in all his realm.
Dani Noyes 1:21  And Daniel lived even to the first year of Cyrus the king.
