16:1  Now Sarai, the wife of Abram, had brought forth no children: but having a handmaid, an Egyptian, named Agar,

16:2  Jednou řekla Sáraj Abramovi: „Hle, Hospodin mi nedopřál, abych rodila, vejdi tedy k mé otrokyni, snad budu mít syna z ní.“ Abram Sárajiny rady uposlechl.

16:2  Proto Saraj Abramovi řekla: „Pohleď, Hospodin mi nedopřál, abych rodila. Spi tedy s mou otrokyní – snad získám syny skrze ni.“ A Abram ji poslechl.

16:2  Sáraj řekla Abramovi: Hle, Hospodin ⌈mi zabránil rodit.⌉ Vejdi prosím k mé otrokyni, snad ⌈budu mít dítě⌉ z ní. Abram Sáraj uposlechl.

16:2  I řekla Sarai Abramovi: Aj, nyní Hospodin zavřel život můj, abych nerodila; vejdi, prosím, k děvce mé, zda bych aspoň z ní mohla míti syny. I povolil Abram řeči Sarai.

16:2  And Sarai said to Abram, Behold, now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee go in to my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

16:2  Sarai said to Abram, "See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my handmaid. It may be that I will obtain children by her." Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

16:2  And Sarai said to Abram, Behold now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing: I pray you, go in to my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

16:3  She took Agar the Egyptian her handmaid, ten years after they first dwelt in the land of Chanaan, and gave her to her husband to wife.

16:3  And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

16:4  And he went in to her. But she perceiving that she was with child, despised her mistress.

16:5  And Sarai said to Abram: Thou dost unjustly with me: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom, and she perceiving herself to be with child, despiseth me. The Lord judge between me and thee.

16:5  And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee.

16:5  Sáraj pak řekla Abramovi: ⌈Ty můžeš za⌉ mé příkoří! Já jsem ti dala do klína svou otrokyni, a když viděla, že otěhotněla, ⌈přestala si mě vážit.⌉ Ať Hospodin ⌈vykoná soud⌉ mezi mnou a tebou.

16:5  I řekla Sarai Abramovi: Křivdou mou tys vinen; já jsem dala děvku svou v lůno tvé, kterážto viduci, že počala, zlehčila mne sobě. Sudiž Hospodin mezi mnou a mezi tebou.

16:5  And Sarai said to Abram, my wrong [be] upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

16:5  Sarai said to Abram, "This wrong is your fault. I gave my handmaid into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. The Lord judge between me and you."

16:5  And Sarai said to Abram, My wrong be on you: I have given my maid into your bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and you.

16:5  Dixitque Sarai ad Abram : Inique agis contra me : ego dedi ancillam meam in sinum tuum, quæ videns quod conceperit, despectui me habet : judicet Dominus inter me et te.

16:6  And Abram made answer, and said to her: Behold thy handmaid is in thy own hand, use her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai afflicted her, she ran away.

16:6  But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

16:6  Abram Sáraji odvětil: „Hle, otrokyně je v tvých rukou, nalož s ní, jak uznáš za dobré.“ Od té doby ji Sáraj pokořovala tak, že Hagar od ní uprchla.

16:6  Abram Saraj odpověděl: „Pohleď, je to tvá otrokyně, je ve tvé moci. Udělej s ní, co chceš.“ Saraj ji tedy pokořovala, až od ní Hagar utekla.

16:6  Abram Sáraji odpověděl: Vždyť tvá otrokyně je ve tvé moci, nalož s ní, jak uznáš za správné. Sáraj ji pak pokořovala tak, že od ní Hagar utekla.

16:6  I řekl Abram k Sarai: Aj, děvka tvá v moci tvé; učiň s ní, cožť se za dobré vidí. Tedy trápila ji Sarai, a ona utekla od ní.

16:6  But Abram said to Sarai, Behold, thy maid [is] in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

16:6  But Abram said to Sarai, "Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your eyes." Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.

16:6  Cui respondens Abram : Ecce, ait, ancilla tua in manu tua est, utere ea ut libet. Affligente igitur eam Sarai, fugam iniit.

16:7  And the angel of the Lord having found her, by a fountain of water in the wilderness, which is in the way to Sur in the desert,

16:8  And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

16:8  a otázal se jí: „Hagaro, otrokyně Sáraje, odkud jsi přišla a kam jdeš?“ Odvětila: „Prchám od své paní Sáraje.“

16:8  And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

16:8  He said, "Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, where did you come from? Where are you going?" She said, "I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai."

16:8  And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, from where came you? and where will you go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

16:8  dixit ad illam : Agar ancilla Sarai, unde venis ? et quo vadis ? Quæ respondit : A facie Sarai dominæ meæ ego fugio.

16:9  And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hand.

16:10  Dále jí řekl: „Velice rozmnožím tvé potomstvo, takže je nebude možno ani spočítat.“

16:10  And the angel of the LORD said to her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

16:11  A dodal: „Hle, jsi těhotná, porodíš syna a dáš mu jméno Izmael (to je Slyší Bůh), neboť Hospodin tě ve tvém pokoření slyšel.

16:11  Hospodinův anděl jí řekl: „Hle, jsi těhotná a porodíš syna. Dáš mu jméno Izmael, Bůh slyší, neboť Hospodin slyšel tvé trápení.

16:11  Dále jí Hospodinův anděl řekl: Hle, jsi těhotná a porodíš syna; dáš mu jméno Izmael, protože Hospodin naslouchal tvému soužení.

16:11  Potom také řekl anděl Hospodinův: Aj, ty jsi těhotná, a tudíž porodíš syna, a nazůveš jméno jeho Izmael; nebo uslyšel Hospodin trápení tvé.

16:11  And the angel of the LORD said to her, Behold, thou [art] with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

16:12  And he will be a wild man; his hand [will be] against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

16:13  And she called the name of the Lord that spoke unto her: Thou the God who hast seen me. For she said: Verily, here have I seen the hinder parts of him that seeth me.

16:13  And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

16:13  And she called the name of the LORD that spoke to her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

16:13  She called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees," for she said, "Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?"

16:13  And she called the name of the LORD that spoke to her, You God see me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that sees me?

16:13  Vocavit autem nomen Domini qui loquebatur ad eam : Tu Deus qui vidisti me. Dixit enim : Profecto hic vidi posteriora videntis me.

16:14  Therefore she called that well, the well of him that liveth and seeth me. The same is between Cades and Barad.

16:14  Wherefore the well was called Beer–lahai–roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

16:15  And Agar brought forth a son to Abram: who called his name Ismael.
