Chapter 9
II K DRC 9:1  And Eliseus the prophet, called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him: Gird up thy loins, and take this little bottle of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth Galaad.
II K KJV 9:1  And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramoth–gilead:
II K VulgClem 9:1  Eliseus autem prophetes vocavit unum de filiis prophetarum, et ait illi : Accinge lumbos tuos, et tolle lenticulam olei hanc in manu tua, et vade in Ramoth Galaad.
II K DRC 9:2  And when thou art come thither, thou shalt see Jehu the son of Josaphat the son of Namsi: and going in, thou shalt make him rise up from amongst his brethren, and carry him into an inner chamber.
II K KJV 9:2  And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
II K VulgClem 9:2  Cumque veneris illuc, videbis Jehu filium Josaphat filii Namsi : et ingressus suscitabis eum de medio fratrum suorum, et introduces in interius cubiculum.
II K DRC 9:3  Then taking the little bottle of oil, thou shalt pour it on his head, and shalt say: Thus saith the Lord: I have anointed thee king over Israel. And thou shalt open the door and flee, and shalt not stay there.
II K KJV 9:3  Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
II K DRC 9:4  So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went away to Ramoth Galaad,
II K KJV 9:4  So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth–gilead.
II K VulgClem 9:4  Abiit ergo adolescens puer prophetæ in Ramoth Galaad,
II K DRC 9:5  And went in thither: and behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said: I have a word to thee, O prince. And Jehu said: Unto whom of us all? And he said: To thee, O prince.
II K KJV 9:5  And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.
At ille dixit : Ad te, o princeps.
II K DRC 9:6  And he arose, and went into the chamber: and he poured the oil upon his head, and said: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: I have anointed thee king over Israel, the people of the Lord.
II K KJV 9:6  And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel.
II K VulgClem 9:6  Et surrexit, et ingressus est cubiculum : at ille fudit oleum super caput ejus, et ait : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Unxi te regem super populum Domini Israël,
II K DRC 9:7  And thou shalt cut off the house of Achab, thy master, and I will revenge the blood of my servants, the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezabel.
II K KJV 9:7  And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel.
II K DRC 9:8  And I will destroy all the house of Achab, and I will cut off from Achab, him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up, and the meanest in Israel.
II K KJV 9:8  For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
II K VulgClem 9:8  Perdamque omnem domum Achab : et interficiam de Achab mingentem ad parietem, et clausum et novissimum in Israël.
II K DRC 9:9  And I will make the house of Achab, like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nabat, and like the house of Baasa, the son of Ahias.
II K KJV 9:9  And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
II K VulgClem 9:9  Et dabo domum Achab sicut domum Jeroboam filii Nabat, et sicut domum Baasa filii Ahia.
II K DRC 9:10  And the dogs shall eat Jezabel, in the field of Jezrahel, and there shall be no one to bury her. And he opened the door and fled.
II K KJV 9:10  And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
II K VulgClem 9:10  Jezabel quoque comedent canes in agro Jezrahel, nec erit qui sepeliat eam. Aperuitque ostium, et fugit.
II K DRC 9:11  Then Jehu went forth to the servants of his Lord: and they said to him: Are all things well? why came this madman to thee? And he said to them: You know the man, and what he said.
II K KJV 9:11  Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.
II K DRC 9:12  But they answered: It is false; but rather do thou tell us. And he said to them: Thus and thus did he speak to me: and he said: Thus saith the Lord: I have anointed thee king over Israel.
II K KJV 9:12  And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel.
II K VulgClem 9:12  At ille responderunt : Falsum est, sed magis narra nobis.
II K DRC 9:13  Then they made haste, and taking every man his garment, laid it under his feet, after the manner of a judgment seat, and they sounded the trumpet, and said: Jehu is king.
II K KJV 9:13  Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
II K VulgClem 9:13  Festinaverunt itaque, et unusquisque tollens pallium suum posuerunt sub pedibus ejus in similitudinem tribunalis, et cecinerunt tuba, atque dixerunt : Regnavit Jehu.
II K DRC 9:14  So Jehu, the son of Josaphat, the son of Namsi, conspired against Joram. Now Joram had besieged Ramoth Galaad, he, and all Israel, fighting with Hazael, king of Syria:
II K KJV 9:14  So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramoth–gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
II K VulgClem 9:14  Conjuravit ergo Jehu filius Josaphat filii Namsi contra Joram : porro Joram obsederat Ramoth Galaad, ipse et omnis Israël contra Hazaël regem Syriæ :
II K DRC 9:15  And was returned to be healed in Jezrahel of his wounds; for the Syrians had wounded him, when he fought with Hazael, king of Syria. And Jehu said: If it please you, let no man go forth or flee out of the city, lest he go, and tell in Jezrahel.
II K KJV 9:15  But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
II K VulgClem 9:15  et reversus fuerat ut curaretur in Jezrahel propter vulnera, quia percusserant eum Syri præliantem contra Hazaël regem Syriæ.
II K DRC 9:16  And he got up, and went into Jezrahel for Joram was sick there, and Ochozias king of Juda, was come down to visit Joram.
II K KJV 9:16  So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.
II K DRC 9:17  The watchman therefore, that stood upon the tower of Jezrahel, saw the troop of Jehu coming, and said: I see a troop. And Joram said: Take a chariot, and send to meet them, and let him that goeth say: Is all well?
II K KJV 9:17  And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
II K DRC 9:18  So there went one in a chariot to meet him, and said: Thus saith the king: Are all things peaceable? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? go behind and follow me. And the watchman told, saying: The messenger came to them, but he returneth not.
II K KJV 9:18  So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
II K DRC 9:19  And he sent a second chariot of horses: and he came to them, and said: Thus saith the king: Is there peace? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? pass, and follow me.
II K KJV 9:19  Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
II K DRC 9:20  And the watchman told, saying: He came even to them, but returneth not: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu, the son of Namsi; for he drives furiously.
II K KJV 9:20  And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.
II K DRC 9:21  And Joram said: Make ready the chariot. And they made ready his chariot: and Joram, king of Israel, and Ochozias, king of Juda, went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him in the field of Naboth, the Jezrahelite.
II K KJV 9:21  And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
II K VulgClem 9:21  Et ait Joram : Junge currum.
II K DRC 9:22  And when Joram saw Jehu, he said: Is there peace, Jehu? And he answered: What peace? so long as the fornications of Jezabel, thy mother, and her many sorceries, are in their vigour.
II K KJV 9:22  And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
II K VulgClem 9:22  Cumque vidisset Joram Jehu, dixit : Pax est, Jehu ? At ille respondit : Quæ pax ? adhuc fornicationes Jezabel matris tuæ, et veneficia ejus multa, vigent.
II K DRC 9:23  And Joram turned his hand, and fleeing, said to Ochozias: There is treachery, Ochozias.
II K KJV 9:23  And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
II K DRC 9:24  But Jehu bent his bow with his hand, and shot Joram between the shoulders: and the arrow went out through his heart, and immediately he fell in his chariot.
II K KJV 9:24  And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
II K DRC 9:25  And Jehu said to Badacer, his captain: Take him, and cast him into the field of Naboth, the Jezrahelite: for I remember, when I and thou, sitting in a chariot, followed Achab, this man's father, that the Lord laid this burden upon him, saying:
II K KJV 9:25  Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him;
II K VulgClem 9:25  Dixitque Jehu ad Badacer ducem : Tolle, projice eum in agro Naboth Jezrahelitæ : memini enim quando ego et tu sedentes in curru sequebamur Achab patrem hujus, quod Dominus onus hoc levaverit super eum, dicens :
II K DRC 9:26  If I do not requite thee in this field, saith the Lord, for the blood of Naboth, and for the blood of his children, which I saw yesterday, saith the Lord. So now take him, and cast him into the field, according to the word of the Lord.
II K KJV 9:26  Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the Lord; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the Lord. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the Lord.
II K DRC 9:27  But Ochozias, king of Juda, seeing this, fled by the way of the garden house: and Jehu pursued him, and said: Strike him also in his chariot. And they struck him in the going up to Gaver, which is by Jeblaam: and he fled into Mageddo, and died there.
II K KJV 9:27  But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
II K DRC 9:28  And his servants laid him upon his chariot, and carried him to Jerusalem: and they buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers, in the city of David.
II K KJV 9:28  And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
II K VulgClem 9:28  Et imposuerunt eum servi ejus super currum suum, et tulerunt in Jerusalem : sepelieruntque eum in sepulchro cum patribus suis in civitate David.
II K DRC 9:29  In the eleventh year of Joram, the son of Achab, Ochozias reigned over Juda;
II K KJV 9:29  And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
II K VulgClem 9:29  Anno undecimo Joram filii Achab, regnavit Ochozias super Judam,
II K DRC 9:30  And Jehu came into Jezrahel. But Jezabel, hearing of his coming in, painted her face with stibic stone, and adorned her head, and looked out of a window.
II K KJV 9:30  And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
II K VulgClem 9:30  venitque Jehu in Jezrahel.
II K DRC 9:31  At Jehu coming in at the gate, and said: Can there be peace for Zambri, that hath killed his master?
II K KJV 9:31  And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
II K DRC 9:32  And Jehu lifted up his face to the window, and said: Who is this? And two or three eunuchs bowed down to him.
II K KJV 9:32  And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
II K DRC 9:33  And he said to them: Throw her down headlong; And they threw her down, and the wall was sprinkled with her blood, and the hoofs of the horses trod upon her.
II K KJV 9:33  And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
II K VulgClem 9:33  At ille dixit eis : Præcipitate eam deorsum : et præcipitaverunt eam, aspersusque est sanguine paries, et equorum ungulæ conculcaverunt eam.
II K DRC 9:34  And when he was come in to eat, and to drink, he said: Go, and see after that cursed woman, and bury her; because she is a king's daughter.
II K KJV 9:34  And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter.
II K DRC 9:35  And when they went to bury her, they found nothing but the skull, and the feet, and the extremities of her hands.
II K KJV 9:35  And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
II K DRC 9:36  And coming back they told him. And Jehu said: It is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elias, the Thesbite, saying: In the field of Jezrahel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezabel.
II K KJV 9:36  Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
II K VulgClem 9:36  Reversique nuntiaverunt ei. Et ait Jehu : Sermo Domini est, quem locutus est per servum suum Eliam Thesbiten, dicens : In agro Jezrahel comedent canes carnes Jezabel,
II K DRC 9:37  And the flesh of Jezabel shall be as dung upon the face of the earth in the field of Jezrahel; so that they who pass by shall say: Is this that same Jezabel?
II K KJV 9:37  And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
