24:1  And the anger of the Lord was again kindled against Israel, and stirred up David among them, saying: Go, number Israel and Juda.

24:2  Král poručil Jóabovi, veliteli vojska, který byl s ním: „Obejdi všechny izraelské kmeny od Danu až k Beer-šebě. Spočítejte lid, chci znát počet lidu.“

24:3  Jóab králi řekl: Ať Hospodin, můj Bůh, přidá k lidu stokrát více než je tohoto a oči mého pána a krále to uvidí. Ale proč můj pán a král ⌈chce tuto věc?⌉

24:3  And Joab said to the king, Now the LORD thy God add to the people, how many soever they may be, a hundred-fold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see [it]: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

24:4  Královo rozhodnutí bylo však pro Jóaba a velitele vojska nezvratné. Jóab s veliteli vojska vyšel od krále, aby sečetli ten lid, Izraele.

24:4  Proti královskému slovu ale Joáb ani velitelé vojska nic nezmohli, a tak se od krále vydali sčítat lid Izraele.

24:9  Jóab králi odevzdal součet branného lidu: V Izraeli bylo osm set tisíc bojeschopných mužů, schopných tasit meč, a judských mužů bylo pět set tisíc.

24:9  Joáb předal králi seznam sečteného lidu: Izrael čítal 800 000 udatných mužů schopných boje. Judských mužů bylo 500 000.

24:9  Jóab udal králi počet sečteného lidu: V Izraeli bylo osm set tisíc bojovníků tasících meč, Judejců bylo pět set tisíc mužů.

24:9  I dal Joáb počet sečteného lidu králi. Bylo pak lidu Izraelského osmkrát sto tisíc mužů silných, kteříž mohli vytrhnouti meč k bitvě. Mužů také Judských pětkrát sto tisíc.

24:10  But David's heart struck him, after the people were numbered: and David said to the Lord: I have sinned very much in what I have done: but I pray thee, O Lord, to take away the iniquity of thy servant, because I have done exceeding foolishly.

24:10  And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

24:10  Ale potom měl David výčitky svědomí, že dal lid sečíst. David volal k Hospodinu: „Velmi jsem zhřešil, že jsem to učinil. Nyní, Hospodine, sejmi prosím ze svého služebníka vinu; počínal jsem si jako velký pomatenec.“

24:10  Po tom sčítání lidu ale Davida začalo trápit svědomí. „Spáchal jsem veliký hřích!“ volal David k Hospodinu. „Prosím tě, Hospodine, odpusť vinu svého služebníka! Zachoval jsem se jako hrozný hlupák.“

24:10  Avšak ⌈Davida trápilo svědomí⌉ potom, co sečetl lid. David řekl Hospodinu: Velmi jsem zhřešil tím, co jsem učinil. Nyní, Hospodine, odejmi, prosím, vinu svého otroka, neboť jsem jednal velice bláznivě.

Now therefore deliberate, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

24:13  So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

24:13  Gád přišel k Davidovi a oznámil mu: „Má na tebe dolehnout sedm let hladu v tvé zemi? Nebo chceš tři měsíce utíkat před svými protivníky, kteří tě budou pronásledovat? Anebo má řádit ve tvé zemi po tři dny mor? Nuže tedy rozvaž, co mám vyřídit tomu, který mě poslal.“

24:13  Gád tedy přišel k Davidovi a řekl mu: „Mají na tvou zem přijít tři roky hladu? Nebo chceš být tři měsíce pronásledován a prchat před nepřáteli? Anebo má být ve tvé zemi tři dny mor? Teď se rozmysli a uvaž, jak mám odpovědět Tomu, který mě posílá.“

24:13  Gád přišel k Davidovi a oznámil mu to. Zeptal se ho: Má na tebe přijít sedm let hladu ve tvé zemi? Nebo budeš utíkat tři měsíce před svými protivníky, kteří tě budou pronásledovat? Nebo mají nastat tři dny moru ve tvé zemi? Nyní ⌈rozvaž a rozhodni,⌉ co mám odpovědět tomu, kdo mě poslal.

24:13  Protož přišed Gád k Davidovi, oznámil mu to, a řekl jemu: Chceš-li, aby přišel na tebe hlad za sedm let v zemi tvé? čili abys za tři měsíce utíkal před nepřátely svými, a oni aby tě honili? čili aby za tři dni byl mor v zemi tvé? 24:13  So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come upon thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? Now consider, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

24:13  So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me."

24:14  And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.

24:14  And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

24:14  David Gádovi odvětil: „Je mi velmi úzko. Nechť tedy prosím padneme do rukou Hospodinu, neboť jeho slitování je nesmírné, jen ať nepadnu do rukou lidských.“

24:14  And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies [are] great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

24:15  So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

24:22  And Araunah said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what [seemeth] good to him: behold, [here are] oxen for burnt-sacrifice, and threshing-instruments and [other] instruments of the oxen for wood.

24:23  All these things Areuna as a king gave to the king: and Areuna said to the king: The Lord thy God receive thy vow.

24:24  And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

24:24  And the king said to Araunah, No; but I will surely buy [it] of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt-offerings to the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
