Joel KJV 1:1  The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
Joel DRC 1:2  Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land: did this ever happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
Joel KJV 1:2  Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Joel DRC 1:3  Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
Joel KJV 1:3  Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
Joel DRC 1:4  That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.
Joel VulgClem 1:4  Residuum erucæ comedit locusta, et residuum locustæ comedit bruchus, et residuum bruchi comedit rubigo.
Joel KJV 1:4  That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
Joel DRC 1:5  Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
Joel KJV 1:5  Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
Joel DRC 1:6  For a nation come up upon my land, strong, and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp.
Joel KJV 1:6  For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
Joel DRC 1:7  He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
Joel VulgClem 1:7  Posuit vineam meam in desertum, et ficum meam decorticavit ; nudans spoliavit eam, et projecit : albi facti sunt rami ejus.
Joel KJV 1:7  He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
Joel DRC 1:8  Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
Joel VulgClem 1:8  Plange quasi virgo accincta sacco super virum pubertatis suæ.
Joel KJV 1:8  Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
Joel DRC 1:9  Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned:
Joel VulgClem 1:9  Periit sacrificium et libatio de domo Domini ; luxerunt sacerdotes, ministri Domini.
Joel KJV 1:9  The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord’s ministers, mourn.
Joel DRC 1:10  The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.
Joel VulgClem 1:10  Depopulata est regio, luxit humus, quoniam devastatum est triticum, confusum est vinum, elanguit oleum.
Joel KJV 1:10  The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
Joel DRC 1:11  The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.
Joel VulgClem 1:11  Confusi sunt agricolæ, ululaverunt vinitores super frumento et hordeo, quia periit messis agri.
Joel KJV 1:11  Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
Joel DRC 1:12  The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men.
Joel KJV 1:12  The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
Joel DRC 1:13  Gird yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God.
Joel VulgClem 1:13  Accingite vos, et plangite, sacerdotes : ululate, ministri altaris ; ingredimini, cubate in sacco, ministri Dei mei, quoniam interiit de domo Dei vestri sacrificium et libatio.
Joel KJV 1:13  Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
Joel DRC 1:14  Sanctify ye a fast, call an assembly, gather together the ancients, all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to the Lord:
Joel VulgClem 1:14  Sanctificate jejunium, vocate cœtum, congregate senes, omnes habitatores terræ in domum Dei vestri, et clamate ad Dominum :
Joel KJV 1:14  Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord,
Joel DRC 1:15  Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty.
Joel VulgClem 1:15  A, a, a, diei ! quia prope est dies Domini, et quasi vastitas a potente veniet.
Joel KJV 1:15  Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel DRC 1:16  Is not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
Joel KJV 1:16  Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
Joel DRC 1:17  The beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses are broken down: because the corn is confounded.
Joel KJV 1:17  The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
Joel DRC 1:18  Why did the beasts groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished.
Joel KJV 1:18  How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
Joel DRC 1:19  To thee, O Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness: and the flame hath burnt all the trees of the country.
Joel VulgClem 1:19  Ad te, Domine, clamabo, quia ignis comedit speciosa deserti, et flamma succendit omnia ligna regionis.
Joel KJV 1:19  O Lord, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
Joel DRC 1:20  Yea, and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness.
Joel KJV 1:20  The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
