Chapter 3
Jere DRC 3:1  It is commonly said: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and marry another man, shall he return to her any more? shall not that woman be polluted, and defiled? but thou hast prostituted thyself to many lovers: nevertheless return to me, saith the Lord, and I will receive thee.
Jere KJV 3:1  They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the Lord.
Jere DRC 3:2  Lift up thy eyes on high: and see where thou hast not prostituted thyself: thou didst sit in the ways, waiting for them as a robber in the wilderness: and thou hast polluted the land with thy fornications, and with thy wickedness.
Jere KJV 3:2  Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
Jere DRC 3:3  Therefore the showers were withholden, and there was no lateward rain: thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou wouldst not blush.
Jere KJV 3:3  Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore’s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
Jere DRC 3:4  Therefore at the least from this time call to me: Thou art my father, the guide of my virginity:
Jere VulgClem 3:4  Ergo saltem amodo voca me : Pater meus, dux virginitatis meæ tu es :
Jere KJV 3:4  Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?
Jere DRC 3:5  Wilt thou be angry for ever, or wilt thou continue unto the end? Behold, thou hast spoken, and hast done evil things, and hast been able.
Jere KJV 3:5  Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.
Jere DRC 3:6  And the Lord said to me in the days of king Josias: Hast thou seen what rebellious Israel hath done? she hath gone of herself upon every high mountain, and under every green tree, and hath played the harlot there.
Jere VulgClem 3:6  Et dixit Dominus ad me in diebus Josiæ regis : Numquid vidisti quæ fecerit aversatrix Israël ?
Jere KJV 3:6  The Lord said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.
Jere DRC 3:7  And when she had done all these things, I said: Return to me, and she did not return. And her treacherous sister Juda saw,
Jere KJV 3:7  And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
Jere DRC 3:8  That because the rebellious Israel had played the harlot, I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce: yet her treacherous sister Juda was not afraid, but went and played the harlot also herself.
Jere KJV 3:8  And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
Jere DRC 3:9  And by the facility of her fornication she defiled the land, and played the harlot with stones and with stocks.
Jere KJV 3:9  And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
Jere DRC 3:10  And after all this, her treacherous sister Juda hath not returned to me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, saith the Lord.
Jere VulgClem 3:10  et in omnibus his non est reversa ad me prævaricatrix soror ejus Juda in toto corde suo, sed in mendacio, ait Dominus.
Jere KJV 3:10  And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the Lord.
Jere DRC 3:11  And the Lord said to me: The rebellious Israel hath justified her soul, in comparison of the treacherous Juda.
Jere VulgClem 3:11  Et dixit Dominus ad me : Justificavit animam suam aversatrix Israël, comparatione prævaricatricis Judæ.
Jere KJV 3:11  And the Lord said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
Jere DRC 3:12  Go, and proclaim these words towards the north, and thou shalt say: Return, O rebellious Israel, saith the Lord, and I will not turn away my face from you: for I am holy, saith the Lord, and I will not be angry for ever.
Jere KJV 3:12  Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger for ever.
Jere DRC 3:13  But yet acknowledge thy iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God: and thou hast scattered thy ways to strangers under every green tree, and hast not heard my voice, saith the Lord.
Jere VulgClem 3:13  Verumtamen scito iniquitatem tuam, quia in Dominum Deum tuum prævaricata es, et dispersisti vias tuas alienis sub omni ligno frondoso, et vocem meam non audisti, ait Dominus.
Jere KJV 3:13  Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the Lord.
Jere DRC 3:14  Return, O ye revolting children, saith the Lord: for I am your I husband: and I will take you, one of a city, and two of a kindred, and will bring you into Sion.
Jere KJV 3:14  Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Jere DRC 3:15  And I will give you pastors according to my own heart, and they shall feed you with knowledge and doctrine.
Jere VulgClem 3:15  Et dabo vobis pastores juxta cor meum, et pascent vos scientia et doctrina.
Jere KJV 3:15  And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Jere DRC 3:16  And when you shall be multiplied, and increase in the land in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more: The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come upon the heart, neither shall they remember it, neither shall it be visited, neither shall that be done any more.
Jere KJV 3:16  And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
Jere DRC 3:17  At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the Lord: and all the nations shall be gathered together to it, in the name of the Lord to Jerusalem, and they shall not walk after the perversity of their most wicked heart.
Jere VulgClem 3:17  In tempore illo vocabunt Jerusalem solium Domini : et congregabuntur ad eam omnes gentes in nomine Domini in Jerusalem, et non ambulabunt post pravitatem cordis sui pessimi.
Jere KJV 3:17  At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
Jere DRC 3:18  In those days the house of Juda shall go to the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land which I gave to your fathers.
Jere KJV 3:18  In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
Jere DRC 3:19  But I said: How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a lovely land, the goodly inheritance of the armies of the Gentiles? And I said: Thou shalt call me father and shalt not cease to walk after me.
Jere VulgClem 3:19  Ego autem dixi : Quomodo ponam te in filios, et tribuam tibi terram desiderabilem, hæreditatem præclaram exercituum gentium ? Et dixi : Patrem vocabis me, et post me ingredi non cessabis.
Jere KJV 3:19  But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Jere DRC 3:20  But as a woman that despiseth her lover, so hath the house of Israel despised me, saith the Lord.
Jere VulgClem 3:20  Sed quomodo si contemnat mulier amatorem suum, sic contempsit me domus Israël, dicit Dominus.
Jere KJV 3:20  Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the Lord.
Jere DRC 3:21  A voice was heard in the highways, weeping and howling of the children of Israel: because they have made their way wicked, they have forgotten the Lord their God.
Jere VulgClem 3:21  Vox in viis audita est, ploratus et ululatus filiorum Israël : quoniam iniquam fecerunt viam suam ; obliti sunt Domini Dei sui.
Jere KJV 3:21  A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the Lord their God.
Jere DRC 3:22  Return, you rebellious children, and I will heal your rebellions. Behold we come to thee: for thou art the Lord our God.
Jere VulgClem 3:22  Convertimini, filii revertentes, et sanabo aversiones vestras.
Jere KJV 3:22  Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.
Jere DRC 3:23  In very deed the hills were liars, and the multitude of the mountains: truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel.
Jere VulgClem 3:23  Vere mendaces erant colles, et multitudo montium : vere in Domino Deo nostro salus Israël.
Jere KJV 3:23  Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel.
Jere DRC 3:24  Confusion hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
Jere KJV 3:24  For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
Jere DRC 3:25  We shall sleep in our confusion, and our shame shall cover us, because we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers from our youth even to this day, and we have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord our God.
Jere KJV 3:25  We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.
