Chapter 9
Reve Common 9:1  And the fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star which had fallen from heaven to earth; and he was given the key of the shaft of the bottomless pit.
Reve Common 9:2  He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up from the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the pit.
Reve Common 9:3  Then out of the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth.
Reve Common 9:4  They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green growth or any tree, but only those of mankind who have not the seal of God on their foreheads.
Reve Common 9:5  They were allowed to torture them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torture was like the torture of a scorpion, when it stings a man.
Reve Common 9:6  And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death will fly from them.
Reve Common 9:7  In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; and their faces were like human faces,
Reve Common 9:8  their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.
Reve Common 9:9  They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle.
Reve Common 9:10  They have tails like scorpions, and stings, and their power to hurt men for five months lies in their tails.
Reve Common 9:11  They have as king over them the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
Reve Common 9:12  The first woe is past; behold, two woes are still to come.
Reve Common 9:13  Then the sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
Reve Common 9:14  saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."
Reve Common 9:15  And the four angels, who had been held ready for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.
Reve Common 9:16  The number of the troops of cavalry was two hundred million; I heard their number.
Reve Common 9:17  And this was how I saw the horses in my vision: the riders wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and sulfur.
Reve Common 9:18  A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire and the smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.
Reve Common 9:19  For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads, and with them they do harm.
Reve Common 9:20  The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;
Reve Common 9:21  nor did they repent of their murders, their sorceries, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
