Chapter 17
I Ki DRC 17:1  And Elias the Thesbite, of the inhabitants of Galaad, said to Achab: As the Lord liveth, the God of Israel, in whose sight I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to the words of my mouth.
I Ki VulgClem 17:1  Et dixit Elias Thesbites de habitatoribus Galaad ad Achab : Vivit Dominus Deus Israël, in cujus conspectu sto, si erit annis his ros et pluvia, nisi juxta oris mei verba.
I Ki KJV 17:1  And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
I Ki DRC 17:2  And the word of the Lord came to him, saying:
I Ki VulgClem 17:2  Et factum est verbum Domini ad eum, dicens :
I Ki KJV 17:2  And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
I Ki DRC 17:3  Get thee hence, and go towards the east, and hide thyself by the torrent of Carith, which is over against the Jordan;
I Ki VulgClem 17:3  Recede hinc, et vade contra orientem, et abscondere in torrente Carith, qui est contra Jordanem,
I Ki KJV 17:3  Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
I Ki DRC 17:4  And there thou shalt drink of the torrent: and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
I Ki KJV 17:4  And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
I Ki DRC 17:5  So he went, and did according to the word of the Lord: and going, he dwelt by the torrent Carith, which is over against the Jordan.
I Ki VulgClem 17:5  Abiit ergo, et fecit juxta verbum Domini : cumque abiisset, sedit in torrente Carith, qui est contra Jordanem.
I Ki KJV 17:5  So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
I Ki DRC 17:6  And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the torrent.
I Ki KJV 17:6  And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
I Ki DRC 17:7  But after some time the torrent was dried up: for it had not rained upon the earth.
I Ki KJV 17:7  And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
I Ki DRC 17:8  Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying:
I Ki VulgClem 17:8  Factus est ergo sermo Domini ad eum, dicens :
I Ki KJV 17:8  And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
I Ki DRC 17:9  Arise, and go to Sarephta of the Sidonians, and dwell there: for I have commanded a widow woman there to feed thee.
I Ki KJV 17:9  Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
I Ki DRC 17:10  He arose, and went to Sarephta. And when he was come to the gate of the city, he saw the widow woman gathering sticks, and he called her, and said to her: Give me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
I Ki VulgClem 17:10  Surrexit, et abiit in Sarephta. Cumque venisset ad portam civitatis, apparuit ei mulier vidua colligens ligna, et vocavit eam, dixitque ei : Da mihi paululum aquæ in vase ut bibam.
I Ki KJV 17:10  So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
I Ki DRC 17:11  And Elias said to her: Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him into the upper chamber where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
I Ki VulgClem 17:11  Cumque illa pergeret ut afferret, clamavit post tergum ejus, dicens : Affer mihi, obsecro, et buccellam panis in manu tua.
I Ki KJV 17:11  And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
I Ki DRC 17:12  And she answered: As the Lord thy God liveth, I have no bread, but only a handful of meal in a pot, and a little oil in a cruise: behold I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it, for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.
I Ki KJV 17:12  And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
I Ki DRC 17:13  And Elias said to her: Fear not; but go, and do as thou hast said but first make for me of the same meal a little hearth cake, and bring it to me, and after make for thyself and thy son.
I Ki VulgClem 17:13  Ad quam Elias ait : Noli timere, sed vade, et fac sicut dixisti : verumtamen mihi primum fac de ipsa farinula subcinericium panem parvulum, et affer ad me : tibi autem et filio tuo facies postea.
I Ki KJV 17:13  And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
I Ki DRC 17:14  For thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel: The pot of meal shall not waste, nor the cruise of oil be diminished, until the day wherein the Lord will give rain upon the face of the earth.
I Ki KJV 17:14  For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
I Ki DRC 17:15  She went, and did according to the word of Elias: and he ate, and she, and her house: and from that day
I Ki KJV 17:15  And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
I Ki DRC 17:16  The pot of meal wasted not, and the cruise of oil was not diminished according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke in the hand of Elias.
I Ki KJV 17:16  And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
I Ki DRC 17:17  And it came to pass after this, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick, and the sickness was very grievous, so that there was no breath left in him.
I Ki KJV 17:17  And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
I Ki DRC 17:18  And she said to Elias: What have I to do with thee, thou man of God? art thou come to me, that my iniquities should be remembered, and that thou shouldst kill my son?
I Ki VulgClem 17:18  Dixit ergo ad Eliam : Quid mihi et tibi, vir Dei ? ingressus es ad me, ut rememorarentur iniquitates meæ, et interficeres filium meum ?
I Ki KJV 17:18  And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
I Ki DRC 17:19
I Ki VulgClem 17:19  Et ait ad eam Elias : Da mihi filium tuum.
I Ki KJV 17:19  And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
I Ki DRC 17:20  And he cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord, my God, hast thou afflicted also the widow, with whom I am after a sort maintained, so as to kill her son?
I Ki KJV 17:20  And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
I Ki DRC 17:21  And he stretched, and measured himself upon the child three times, and cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord, my God, let the soul of this child, I beseech thee, return into his body.
I Ki KJV 17:21  And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
I Ki DRC 17:22  And the Lord heard the voice of Elias: and the soul of the child returned into him, and he revived.
I Ki KJV 17:22  And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
I Ki DRC 17:23  And Elias took the child, and brought him down from the upper chamber to the house below, and delivered him to his mother, and said to her: Behold thy son liveth.
I Ki VulgClem 17:23  Tulitque Elias puerum, et deposuit eum de cœnaculo in inferiorem domum, et tradidit matri suæ, et ait illi : En vivit filius tuus.
I Ki KJV 17:23  And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
I Ki DRC 17:24  And the woman said to Elias: Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and the word of the Lord in thy mouth is true.
I Ki VulgClem 17:24  Dixitque mulier ad Eliam : Nunc in isto cognovi quoniam vir Dei es tu, et verbum Domini in ore tuo verum est.
I Ki KJV 17:24  And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
