19:1  There was a certain Levite, who dwelt on the side of mount Ephraim, who took a wife of Bethlehem Juda:

19:1  And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth–lehem–judah.

19:1  Izrael byl tenkrát bez krále. Hluboko v Efraimských horách bydlel jeden levita. Našel si družku z judského Betléma,

19:1  I stalo se ⌈v oněch dnech, kdy nebyl v Izraeli král,⌉ že nějaký lévita pobývající jako cizinec v odlehlých končinách efrajimského pohoří si vzal konkubínu z judského Betléma.

19:1  Stalo se také toho času, když krále nebylo v Izraeli, že muž nějaký Levíta, jsa pohostinu při straně hory Efraimské, pojal sobě ženu ženinu z Betléma Judova.

And when his father in law had heard this, and had seen him, he met him with joy,

19:4  And embraced the man. And the son in law tarried in the house of his father in law three days, eating with him and drinking familiarly.

19:5  Čtvrtého dne za časného jitra, když se zvedl k odchodu, řekl dívčin otec svému zeti: „Posilni se soustem chleba a potom půjdete.“

19:5  And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he arose to depart: and the damsel's father said to his son-in-law, Comfort thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward depart.

19:6  Tak zůstali a oba spolu jedli a pili. Potom dívčin otec vybídl muže: „Buď tak laskav, zůstaň ještě přes noc a buď dobré mysli.“

19:7  But he rising up, began to be for departing. And nevertheless his father in law earnestly pressed him, and made him stay with him.

19:7  And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

19:8  But when morning was come, the Levite prepared to go on his journey. And his father in law said to him again: I beseech thee to take a little meat, and strengthening thyself, till the day be farther advanced, afterwards thou mayest depart. And they ate together.

19:8  And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

19:8  Pátého dne za časného jitra chtěl odejít, ale dívčin otec na něho zase naléhal: „Posilni se prosím!“ Pozdrželi se, až den pokročil, a oba pojedli.

19:8  Ráno pátého dne si přivstal, že půjde. Dívčin otec mu ale řekl: „Prosím, pořádně se posilni.“ A než oba pojedli, zdrželi se až do odpoledne.

19:8  And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thy heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they ate both of them.

19:9  And the young man arose to set forward with his wife and servant. And his father in law spoke to him again: Consider that the day is declining, and draweth toward evening: tarry with me to day also, and spend the day in mirth, and to morrow thou shalt depart, that thou mayest go into thy house.

19:9  And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

19:9  Potom se muž se svou ženinou a mládencem zvedl k odchodu. Jeho tchán, dívčin otec, mu však řekl: „Pohleď, den se schyluje k večeru. Zůstaňte přes noc. Den se přece sklání. Přenocuj zde a buď dobré mysli. Zítra za časného jitra se vydáš na cestu a půjdeš ke svému stanu.“

19:9  Tehdy muž vstal, že se svou družkou a mládencem půjdou. Dívčin otec, jeho tchán, mu ale řekl: „Podívej se, den už se chýlí k večeru. Zůstaňte prosím na noc. Vždyť už se smráká. Přespi tu a pohov si. Zítra si přivstanete, vydáte se na cestu a dorazíte domů.“

19:9  Když vstal ten muž k odchodu, on i jeho konkubína a jeho služebník, tu mu řekl jeho tchán, otec dívky: Podívej se přece, den se nachýlil ⌈a nastává večer.⌉ Ano, zůstaňte přece přes noc, dnes si lehněte. Přenocuj tady, ⌈ať je ti dobře u srdce⌉ a zítra časně vstanete na svou cestu a odejdeš ke svému stanu.

19:9  Tedy vstal muž ten, aby šel, on i ženina jeho i mládenec jeho. I řekl mu tchán jeho, otec děvky: Aj, již se den nachýlil k večerou, medle zůstaňte přes noc; aj, dokonává se den, pobuď přes noc zde, a buď mysli veselé, a zítra tím raněji vypravíte se na cestu svou, a půjdeš k příbytku svému.

19:9  And when the man arose to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the damsel's father, said to him, Behold now the day draweth towards evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day is coming to an end, lodge here, that thy heart may be merry; and to-morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

19:9  When the man rose up with his concubine and his servant to leave, his father-in-law, the young lady's father, said to him, "Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay the night. Behold, the day grows to an end, stay here, and enjoy yourself; and tomorrow you can get up early for your journey so that you may go home."

19:9  And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said to him, Behold, now the day draws toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day grows to an end, lodge here, that your heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that you may go home.

19:9  Surrexitque adolescens, ut pergeret cum uxore sua et puero. Cui rursum locutus est socer : Considera quod dies ad occasum declivior sit, et propinquat ad vesperum : mane apud me etiam hodie, et duc lætum diem, et cras proficisceris ut vadas in domum tuam.

19:10  His son in law would not consent to his words: but forthwith went forward, and came over against Jebus, which by another name is called Jerusalem, leading with him two asses loaden, and his concubine.

19:10  But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

19:10  Avšak muž nechtěl zůstat přes noc, zvedl se k odchodu a došel se svým párem osedlaných oslů a se svou ženinou až naproti Jebúsu, což je Jeruzalém.

19:10  On už tam ale nehodlal strávit další noc, a tak se zvedl a se svým párem oslů v postrojích a se svou družkou vyrazil k Jebusu (což je Jeruzalém).

19:11  And now they were come near Jebus, and the day was far spent: and the servant said to his master: Come, I beseech thee, let us turn into the city of the Jebusites, and lodge there.

19:11  And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

19:11  Když byli u Jebúsu, den téměř minul. Tu navrhl mládenec svému pánu: „Pojď prosím, uchýlíme se do tohoto jebúsejského města a přenocujeme v něm.“

19:11  [And] when they [were] by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in to this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

19:11  When they were by Jebus, the day was almost gone, and the servant said to his master, "Please come and let us stop at this city of the Jebusites, and spend the night in it."

19:11  And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Come, I pray you, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

19:11  Jamque erant juxta Jebus, et dies mutabatur in noctem : dixitque puer ad dominum suum : Veni, obsecro : declinemus ad urbem Jebusæorum, et maneamus in ea.

19:12  His master answered him: I will not go into the town of another nation, who are not of the children of Israel, but I will pass over to Gabaa:

19:12  And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

19:12  Ale jeho pán mu odvětil: „Neuchýlíme se do cizího města, které nepatří Izraelcům. Půjdeme dál do Gibeje.“

19:13  And when I shall come thither, we will lodge there, or at least in the city of Rama.

19:13  And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

19:15  And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

19:22  Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

19:22  Byli dobré mysli, avšak hle, mužové města, muži ničemníci, obklíčili dům, tloukli na dveře a vyzývali toho starého muže, hospodáře: „Vyveď muže, který vešel do tvého domu, ať ho poznáme!“

19:22  A jak si tak hověli, náhle dům obstoupili místní ničemové. Začali tlouct do dveří a křičet na starého hospodáře: „Vyveď toho mužského, co přišel k tobě domů, ať si ho užijeme!“

19:22  [Now] as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house on all sides, [and] beat at the door, and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thy house, that we may know him.

19:22  As they were enjoying themselves, behold, the men of the city, some wicked men of the city surrounded the house, beating at the door. And they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, "Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may have sex with him!"

19:23  And the old man went out to them, and said: Do not so, my brethren, do not so wickedly: because this man is come into my lodging, and cease I pray you from this folly.

19:23  Tu k nim ten hospodář vyšel a domlouval jim: „Ne tak, moji bratři! Nedopustíte se přece něčeho tak zlého! Vždyť tento muž vešel do mého domu. Nesmíte spáchat takovou hanebnost!

19:23  Hospodář k nim vyšel ven se slovy: „To ne, bratři! Nedělejte prosím nic zlého! Ten muž je přece mým hostem! Neprovádějte takovou hanebnost.

19:24  Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.
