Chapter 40
Psal DRC 40:1  Unto the end, a psalm for David himself.
Psal VulgClem 40:1  In finem. Psalmus ipsi David.
Psal KJV 40:1  I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
Psal DRC 40:2  Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.
Psal VulgClem 40:2  Beatus qui intelligit super egenum et pauperem : in die mala liberabit eum Dominus.
Psal KJV 40:2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Psal DRC 40:3  The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth: and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
Psal VulgClem 40:3  Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum ejus.
Psal KJV 40:3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Psal DRC 40:4  The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.
Psal VulgClem 40:4  Dominus opem ferat illi super lectum doloris ejus ; universum stratum ejus versasti in infirmitate ejus.
Psal KJV 40:4  Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Psal DRC 40:5  I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.
Psal VulgClem 40:5  Ego dixi : Domine, miserere mei ; sana animam meam, quia peccavi tibi.
Psal KJV 40:5  Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Psal DRC 40:6  My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish?
Psal VulgClem 40:6  Inimici mei dixerunt mala mihi : Quando morietur, et peribit nomen ejus ?
Psal KJV 40:6  Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Psal DRC 40:7  And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things: his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose.
Psal VulgClem 40:7  Et si ingrediebatur ut videret, vana loquebatur ; cor ejus congregavit iniquitatem sibi. Egrediebatur foras et loquebatur.
Psal KJV 40:7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psal DRC 40:8  All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.
Psal VulgClem 40:8  In idipsum adversum me susurrabant omnes inimici mei ; adversum me cogitabant mala mihi.
Psal KJV 40:8  I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Psal DRC 40:9  They determined against me an unjust word: shall he that sleepeth rise again no more?
Psal VulgClem 40:9  Verbum iniquum constituerunt adversum me : Numquid qui dormit non adjiciet ut resurgat ?
Psal KJV 40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, thou knowest.
Psal DRC 40:10  For even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me.
Psal VulgClem 40:10  Etenim homo pacis meæ in quo speravi, qui edebat panes meos, magnificavit super me supplantationem.
Psal KJV 40:10  I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
Psal DRC 40:11  But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again: and I will requite them.
Psal VulgClem 40:11  Tu autem, Domine, miserere mei, et resuscita me ; et retribuam eis.
Psal KJV 40:11  Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
Psal DRC 40:12  By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me: because my enemy shall not rejoice over me.
Psal VulgClem 40:12  In hoc cognovi quoniam voluisti me, quoniam non gaudebit inimicus meus super me.
Psal KJV 40:12  For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
Psal DRC 40:13  But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence: and hast established me in thy sight for ever.
Psal VulgClem 40:13  Me autem propter innocentiam suscepisti ; et confirmasti me in conspectu tuo in æternum.
Psal KJV 40:13  Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me.
Psal DRC 40:14  Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it.
Psal VulgClem 40:14  Benedictus Dominus Deus Israël a sæculo et usque in sæculum. Fiat, fiat.
Psal KJV 40:14  Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

Psal KJV 40:16  Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

Psal KJV 40:17  But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
