18:3  And the people answered: Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not much mind us: or if half of us should fall, they will not greatly care: for thou alone art accounted for ten thousand: it is better therefore that thou shouldst be in the city to succour us.

18:3  But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.

18:3  Lid však prohlásil: „Netáhni. Na nás jim nebude záležet, budeme-li utíkat. Usmrtí-li nás i polovic, nebude jim na nás záležet. Ty však jsi za deset tisíc z nás. Nyní nám lépe pomůžeš, když budeš ve městě.“

18:3  Namítli ale: „Nemůžeš jít s námi! Kdybychom museli utíkat, nebude jim záležet na nás; nebude je zajímat, ani kdyby nás polovina padla. Ty jsi přece cennější než deset tisíc z nás. Teď nám lépe pomůžeš, když zůstaneš ve městě.“

18:3  Lid řekl: Netáhni. Kdybychom museli utíkat, ⌈nebudou si nás všímat.⌉ I kdyby nás polovina zemřela, ⌈nebudou si nás všímat.⌉ Neboť ty jsi za deset tisíc z nás. Bude nyní lepší, když nám budeš ⌈na pomoc jako záloha⌉ z města.

18:3  Ale lid řekl: Nikoli nepotáhneš; nebo jestliže bychom i utíkali, nebudouť na to velmi dbáti, aniž, by nás i polovici zbili, budou toho velmi vážiti. Ty sám zajisté jsi jako z nás deset tisíců, protož lépe bude, abys nám byl v městě ku pomoci.

18:3  But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now [thou art] worth ten thousand of us: therefore now [it is] better that thou shouldst succor us out of the city.

18:4  And the king said to them: What seemeth good to you, that will I do. And the king stood by the gate: and all the people went forth by their troops, by hundreds and by thousands.

18:5  Král přikázal Jóabovi, Abíšajovi a Itajovi: „S ohledem na mne jednejte s mládencem Abšalómem šetrně.“ Všechen lid slyšel, co král všem velitelům ohledně Abšalóma přikázal.

18:9  Abšalóm narazil na Davidovy služebníky, a jak ujížděl na mezku, vběhl mezek pod větvoví velikého posvátného stromu a on v tom stromě uvázl hlavou, takže se ocitl mezi nebem a zemí; mezek, na němž jel, běžel dál.

18:9  Abšalom znenadání narazil na Davidovy muže, a tak na svém mezku ujížděl pryč. Když ale mezek probíhal pod hustými větvemi velikého dubu, Abšalom v nich uvízl za vlasy. Mezek pod ním běžel dál, ale on zůstal viset mezi nebem a zemí.

18:9  Abšalóm se potkal s Davidovými otroky. Abšalóm jel na mezku. Když vjel mezek pod spleť větví velkého terebintu, jeho hlava se zachytila v terebintu a on se ocitl mezi nebem a zemí. Mezek, který byl pod ním, jel dál.

18:9  Potkal se pak Absolon s služebníky Davidovými. Kterýžto Absolon jel na mezku, (i podšel mezek pod hustý dub veliký,) a uvázl za hlavu v stromu tom, tak že visel mezi nebem a zemí. Ale mezek, kterýž pod ním byl, odběhl pryč.

18:9  And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was suspended between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that [was] under him went away.

18:11  Jóab řekl muži, který mu to oznámil: „Když jsi ho viděl, proč jsi ho tam nesrazil k zemi? Byl bych ti dal deset šekelů stříbra a jeden pás.“

18:12  And he said to Joab: If thou wouldst have paid down in my hands a thousand pieces of silver, I would not lay my hands upon the king's son for in our hearing the king charged thee, and Abisai, and Ethai, saying: Save me the boy Absalom.

18:12  And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

18:12  Ten muž ale Joábovi odpověděl: „Ani kdybych dostal na ruku tisíc šekelů stříbra, na králova syna bych ruku nevztáhl! Slyšeli jsme přece na vlastní uši, jaké rozkazy dal král tobě, Abišajovi a Itajovi: ‚Dávejte pozor na mého chlapce Abšaloma.‘

18:12  Ten muž však Jóabovi odpověděl: I kdyby mi bylo odváženo na ruku tisíc šekelů stříbra, nevztáhl bych ruku na královského syna. Vždyť ⌈jsme slyšeli, jak⌉ král přikázal tobě, Abíšajovi a Itajovi: Zachovejte kvůli mně mládence Abšalóma.

18:12  Odpověděl muž ten Joábovi: A já, bych i odečtených měl na ruce své tisíc lotů stříbra, nevztáhl bych ruky své na syna králova; nebo jsme slyšeli, kterak přikazoval král tobě a Abizai a Ittai, řka: Šetřte všickni syna mého Absolona;

18:12  And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand [shekels] of silver in my hand, [yet] would I not put forth my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none [touch] the young man Absalom.

18:12  The man said to Joab, "Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn't put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.'

18:12  And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

18:13  Yea and if I should have acted boldly against my own life, this could not have been hid from the king, and wouldst thou have stood by me?

18:13  Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.

18:14  Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

18:28  And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the Lord thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

18:28  Clamans autem Achimaas, dixit ad regem : Salve rex. Et adorans regem coram eo pronus in terram, ait : Benedictus Dominus Deus tuus, qui conclusit homines qui levaverunt manus suas contra dominum meum regem.

18:29  And the king said: Is the young man Absalom safe? And Achimaas said: I saw a great tumult, O king, when thy servant Joab sent me thy servant: I know nothing else.

18:29  And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.

18:31  apparuit Chusi : et veniens ait : Bonum apporto nuntium, domine mi rex : judicavit enim pro te Dominus hodie de manu omnium qui surrexerunt contra te.

18:32  And the king said to Chusai: Is the young man Absalom safe? And Chusai answering him, said: Let the enemies of my lord, the king, and all that rise against him unto evil, be as the young man is.

18:33  The king therefore being much moved, went up to the high chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went he spoke in this manner: My son Absalom, Absalom my son: would to God that I might die for thee, Absalom my son, my son Absalom.
