82:1  A canticle of a psalm for Asaph.

82:1  Canticum Psalmi Asaph.

82:1  God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

82:2  O God, who shall be like to thee? hold not thy peace, neither be thou still, O God.

82:2  Deus, quis similis erit tibi ? ne taceas, neque compescaris, Deus :

82:2  How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

82:3  For lo, thy enemies have made a noise: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

82:3  quoniam ecce inimici tui sonuerunt, et qui oderunt te extulerunt caput.

82:3  Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

82:4  They have taken a malicious counsel against thy people, and have consulted against thy saints.

82:4  Super populum tuum malignaverunt consilium, et cogitaverunt adversus sanctos tuos.

82:4  Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

82:5  They have said: Come and let us destroy them, so that they be not a nation: and let the name of Israel be remembered no more.

82:5  Dixerunt : Venite, et disperdamus eos de gente, et non memoretur nomen Israël ultra.

82:5  They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

82:6  For they have contrived with one consent: they have made a covenant together against thee,

82:6  Quoniam cogitaverunt unanimiter ; simul adversum te testamentum disposuerunt :

82:6  I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

82:7  The tabernacle of the Edomites, and the Ishmahelites: Moab, and the Agarens,

82:7  tabernacula Idumæorum et Ismahelitæ, Moab et Agareni,

82:7  But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

82:8  Gebal, and Ammon and Amalec: the Philistines, with the inhabitants of Tyre.

82:8  Gebal, et Ammon, et Amalec ; alienigenæ cum habitantibus Tyrum.

82:8  Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

82:9  Yea, and the Assyrian also is joined with them: they are come to the aid of the sons of Lot.

82:9  Etenim Assur venit cum illis : facti sunt in adjutorium filiis Lot.

82:10  Do to them as thou didst to Madian and to Sisara: as to Jabin at the brook of Cisson.

82:10  Fac illis sicut Madian et Sisaræ, sicut Jabin in torrente Cisson.

82:11  Who perished at Endor: and became as dung for the earth.

82:11  Disperierunt in Endor ; facti sunt ut stercus terræ.

82:12  Make their princes like Oreb, and Zeb, and Zebee, and Salmana. All their princes,

82:12  Pone principes eorum sicut Oreb, et Zeb, et Zebee, et Salmana : omnes principes eorum,

82:13  Who have said: Let us possess the sanctuary of God for an inheritance.

82:13  qui dixerunt : Hæreditate possideamus sanctuarium Dei.

82:14  O my God, make them like a wheel; and as stubble before the wind.

82:14  Deus meus, pone illos ut rotam, et sicut stipulam ante faciem venti.

82:15  As fire which burneth the wood: and as a flame burning mountains:

82:15  Sicut ignis qui comburit silvam, et sicut flamma comburens montes,

82:16  So shalt thou pursue them with thy tempest: and shalt trouble them in thy wrath.

82:16  ita persequeris illos in tempestate tua, et in ira tua turbabis eos.

82:17  Fill their faces with shame; and they shall seek thy name, O Lord.

82:17  Imple facies eorum ignominia, et quærent nomen tuum, Domine.

82:18  Let them be ashamed and troubled for ever and ever: and let them be confounded and perish.

82:18  Erubescant, et conturbentur in sæculum sæculi, et confundantur, et pereant.

82:19  And let them know that the Lord is thy name: thou alone art the most High over all the earth.

82:19  Et cognoscant quia nomen tibi Dominus : tu solus Altissimus in omni terra.
