AFV2020 - Acts - 18

18:1  Now after these things, Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth;

18:2  And there he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with Priscilla his wife (because Claudius had ordered all the Jews out of Rome). And he came to their house.

18:3  And because he was of the same trade, he dwelt with them and worked; for they were tent makers by trade.

18:4  And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

18:5  Now when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was stirred in his spirit and was earnestly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

18:6  But when they set themselves in opposition and were blaspheming, Paul shook his garments and said to them, "Your blood be upon your own heads. I am pure of it. From this time forward I will go to the Gentiles."

18:7  And after departing from there, he went into the house of a certain one named Justus, who worshiped God, whose house adjoined the synagogue.

18:8  But Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with his whole house; and many of the Corinthians who heard believed and were baptized.

18:9  And the Lord said to Paul in a vision in the night, "Do not be afraid; but speak, and do not be silent,

18:10  For I am with you; and no one shall set upon you to mistreat you because I have many people in this city."

18:11  And he remained there for a year and six months, teaching the Word of God among them.

18:12  Now when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up against Paul with one accord and led him to the judgment seat,

18:13  Saying, "This man is persuading men to worship God contrary to the law."

18:14  And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "Now then, if it were a matter of some injustice, or wicked criminality, O Jews, according to reason, I should put up with you;

18:15  But on the other hand, if it be a question about a message and names and a law of your own, you see to it yourselves; for I have no desire to be a judge of these things."

18:16  And he drove them from the judgment seat.

18:17  Then all the Greeks laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But none of these things mattered to Gallio.

18:18  And after Paul had remained there many days, he took leave of the brethren and sailed away to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila. Now Paul had shorn his head in Cenchrea because he had made a vow.

18:19  And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

18:20  And when they asked him to remain with them for a longer time, he did not consent,

18:21  But took leave of them, saying, "I must by all means keep the feast that is coming at Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing." And he sailed from Ephesus.

18:22  And after landing at Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and visited the church; then he went down to Antioch.

18:23  And when he had stayed there some time, he left and went through the country of the Galatians and the Phrygians in order, establishing all the disciples.

18:24  Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man who was skilled in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus.

18:25  He had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

18:26  And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. And after hearing him, Aquila and Priscilla took him and expounded the way of God to him more perfectly.

18:27  And when he was determined to travel to Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples, exhorting them to welcome him; and after arriving, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace,

18:28  For he powerfully refuted the Jews publicly, showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
