48:1  Unto the end, a psalm for the sons of Core.

48:1  Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

48:1  In finem, filiis Core. Psalmus.

48:2  Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.

48:2  Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

48:2  Audite hæc, omnes gentes ; auribus percipite, omnes qui habitatis orbem :

48:3  All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together.

48:3  God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

48:3  quique terrigenæ et filii hominum, simul in unum dives et pauper.

48:4  My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding.

48:4  For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

48:4  Os meum loquetur sapientiam, et meditatio cordis mei prudentiam.

48:5  I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery.

48:5  They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.

48:5  Inclinabo in parabolam aurem meam ; aperiam in psalterio propositionem meam.

48:6  Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.

48:6  Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

48:6  Cur timebo in die mala ? iniquitas calcanei mei circumdabit me.

48:7  They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches,

48:7  Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

48:7  Qui confidunt in virtute sua, et in multitudine divitiarum suarum, gloriantur.

48:8  No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom,

48:8  As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.

48:8  Frater non redimit, redimet homo : non dabit Deo placationem suam,

48:9  Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever,

48:9  We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

48:9  et pretium redemptionis animæ suæ. Et laborabit in æternum ;

48:10  And shall still live unto the end.

48:10  According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

48:10  et vivet adhuc in finem.

48:11  He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers:

48:11  Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

48:11  Non videbit interitum, cum viderit sapientes morientes : simul insipiens et stultus peribunt. Et relinquent alienis divitias suas,

48:12  And their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names.

48:12  Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.

48:12  et sepulchra eorum domus illorum in æternum ; tabernacula eorum in progenie et progenie : vocaverunt nomina sua in terris suis.

48:13  And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them.

48:13  Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

48:13  Et homo, cum in honore esset, non intellexit. Comparatus est jumentis insipientibus, et similis factus est illis.

48:14  This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth.

48:14  For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

48:14  Hæc via illorum scandalum ipsis ; et postea in ore suo complacebunt.

48:15  They are laid in hell like sheep: death shall feed upon them. And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their help shall decay in hell from their glory.

48:15  Sicut oves in inferno positi sunt : mors depascet eos. Et dominabuntur eorum justi in matutino ; et auxilium eorum veterascet in inferno a gloria eorum.

48:16  But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, when he shall receive me.

48:16  Verumtamen Deus redimet animam meam de manu inferi, cum acceperit me.

48:17  Be not thou afraid, when a man shall be made rich, and when the glory of his house shall be increased.

48:17  Ne timueris cum dives factus fuerit homo, et cum multiplicata fuerit gloria domus ejus :

48:18  For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; nor shall his glory descend with him.

48:18  quoniam, cum interierit, non sumet omnia, neque descendet cum eo gloria ejus.

48:19  For in his lifetime his soul will be blessed: and he will praise thee when thou shalt do well to him.

48:19  Quia anima ejus in vita ipsius benedicetur ; confitebitur tibi cum benefeceris ei.

48:20  He shall go in to the generations of his fathers: and he shall never see light.

48:20  Introibit usque in progenies patrum suorum ; et usque in æternum non videbit lumen.

48:21  Man when he was in honour did not understand: he hath been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them.

48:21  Homo, cum in honore esset, non intellexit. Comparatus est jumentis insipientibus, et similis factus est illis.
