21:3  And Joab answered, the LORD make his people a hundred times more numerous than they [are]: but, my lord the king, [are] they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

21:3  Joab said, "May the Lord make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren't they all my lord's servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?"

21:3  And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then does my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

21:4  But the king's word rather prevailed: and Joab departed, and went through all Israel: and returned to Jerusalem.

21:5  And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all [they of] Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah [was] four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword.

21:12  Tři roky hladu, nebo tři měsíce být ničen protivníky a stíhán mečem nepřátel, anebo po tři dny Hospodinův meč, totiž mor v zemi, a Hospodinův anděl bude šířit zkázu po celém izraelském území. Nuže tedy, co mám vyřídit tomu, který mě poslal?“

21:12  tři roky hladu, tři měsíce drancování, kdy tě bude stíhat meč tvých nepřátel, anebo tři dny meče Hospodinova, kdy bude v zemi řádit mor a Hospodinův anděl bude rozsévat zhoubu po celé izraelské zemi.‘ Teď uvaž, jak mám odpovědět Tomu, který mě posílá.“

21:12  Tři roky hladu nebo tři měsíce být ničen svými protivníky, kdy by tě stíhal meč tvých nepřátel, anebo tři dny Hospodinova meče a moru v zemi, kdy by Hospodinův anděl působil zkázu po celém území Izraele. Nyní se rozhodni, co mám odpovědět tomu, kdo mě poslal.

21:12  Buďto hlad za tři léta, buď abys za tři měsíce kažen byl od protivníků svých, když by meč nepřátel tvých dotekl se tebe, aneb aby za tři dni meč Hospodinův a mor byl v zemi, a anděl Hospodinův aby hubil po všech končinách Izraelských. Již tedy viz, co mám odpovědíti tomu, kterýž mne poslal.

21:13  And David said to Gad: I am on every side in a great strait: but it is better for me to fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are many, than into the hands of men.

21:13  And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great [are] his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

21:15  Bůh vyslal k Jeruzalému anděla, aby v něm šířil zkázu. Ale když šířil zkázu, Hospodin shlédl a pojala ho lítost nad tím zlem. Řekl andělu, jenž šířil zkázu: „Dost! Již přestaň!“ Hospodinův anděl stál právě u humna Ornána Jebúsejského.

21:15  a Bůh poslal anděla, aby hubil Jeruzalém. Když pak Hospodin viděl tu zhoubu, pojala ho nad tím neštěstím lítost a řekl andělovi hubícímu lid: „Dost už, zadrž!“ Hospodinův anděl právě stál u mlatu Aravny Jebusejského.

21:15  Bůh poslal do Jeruzaléma anděla, aby ho ničil. A když ničil, Hospodin to viděl, litoval toho zla a řekl andělu, který působil zkázu: Dost. Nyní odtáhni svou ruku. A Hospodinův anděl se zastavil u humna Ornána Jebúsejského.

21:15  Poslal také Bůh anděla i na Jeruzalém, aby hubil jej. A když hubil, popatřil Hospodin, a zželelo mu se toho zlého. I řekl andělu, kterýž hubil: Dostiť jest, zdrž ruku svou. Anděl pak stál podlé humna Ornana Jebuzejského.

21:15  And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thy hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

21:15  God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, the Lord saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, "It is enough; now stay your hand." The angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

21:16  And David lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand, turned against Jerusalem: and both he and the ancients clothed in haircloth, fell down flat on the ground.
