Chapter 2
II T DRC 2:1  Thou therefore, my son, be strong in Christ Jesus:
II T VulgClem 2:1  Tu ergo fili mi, confortare in gratia, quæ est in Christo Jesu :
II T KJV 2:1  Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
II T DRC 2:2  And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men who shall be fit to teach others also.
II T VulgClem 2:2  et quæ audisti a me per multos testes, hæc commenda fidelibus hominibus, qui idonei erant et alios docere.
II T KJV 2:2  And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
II T DRC 2:3  Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
II T VulgClem 2:3  Labora sicut bonus miles Christi Jesu.
II T KJV 2:3  Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
II T DRC 2:4  No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses: that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself.
II T KJV 2:4  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
II T DRC 2:5  For he also that striveth for the mastery is not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
II T KJV 2:5  And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
II T DRC 2:6  The husbandman that laboureth must first partake of the fruits.
II T VulgClem 2:6  Laborantem agricolam oportet primum de fructibus percipere.
II T KJV 2:6  The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
II T DRC 2:7  Understand what I say: for the Lord will give thee in all things understanding.
II T VulgClem 2:7  Intellige quæ dico : dabit enim tibi Dominus in omnibus intellectum.
II T KJV 2:7  Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
II T DRC 2:8  Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ is risen again from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:
II T VulgClem 2:8  Memor esto Dominum Jesum Christum resurrexisse a mortuis ex semine David, secundum Evangelium meum,
II T KJV 2:8  Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
II T DRC 2:9  Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound.
II T KJV 2:9  Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
II T DRC 2:10  Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.
II T KJV 2:10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
II T DRC 2:11  A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him.
II T KJV 2:11  It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
II T DRC 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.
II T KJV 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
II T DRC 2:13  If we believe not, he continueth faithful, he cannot deny himself.
II T KJV 2:13  If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
II T DRC 2:14  Of these things put them in mind, charging them before the Lord. Contend not in words: for it is to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
II T VulgClem 2:14  Hæc commone, testificans coram Domino.
II T KJV 2:14  Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
II T DRC 2:15  Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
II T VulgClem 2:15  Sollicite cura teipsum probabilem exhibere Deo, operarium inconfusibilem, recte tractantem verbum veritatis.
II T KJV 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
II T DRC 2:16  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they grow much towards ungodliness.
II T KJV 2:16  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
II T DRC 2:17  And their speech spreadeth like a canker: of whom are Hymeneus and Philetus:
II T VulgClem 2:17  et sermo eorum ut cancer serpit : ex quibus est Hymenæus et Philetus,
II T KJV 2:17  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
II T DRC 2:18  Who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is past already, and have subverted the faith of some.
II T KJV 2:18  Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
II T DRC 2:19  But the sure foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal: the Lord knoweth who are his; and let every one depart from iniquity who nameth the name of the Lord.
II T KJV 2:19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
II T DRC 2:20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth: and some indeed unto honour, but some unto dishonour.
II T KJV 2:20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
II T DRC 2:21  If any man therefore shall cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified and profitable to the Lord, prepared unto every good work.
II T VulgClem 2:21  Si quis ergo emundaverit se ab istis, erit vas in honorem sanctificatum, et utile Domino ad omne opus bonum paratum.
II T KJV 2:21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
II T DRC 2:22  But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity and peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
II T KJV 2:22  Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
II T DRC 2:23  And avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strifes.
II T VulgClem 2:23  Stultas autem et sine disciplina quæstiones devita : sciens quia generant lites.
II T KJV 2:23  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
II T DRC 2:24  But the servant of the Lord must not wrangle: but be mild toward all men, apt to teach, patient,
II T KJV 2:24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
II T DRC 2:25  With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth;
II T KJV 2:25  In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
II T DRC 2:26  And they may recover themselves from the snares of the devil by whom they are held captive at his will.
II T VulgClem 2:26  et resipiscant a diaboli laqueis, a quo captivi tenentur ad ipsius voluntatem.
II T KJV 2:26  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
