2:1  Son, when thou comest to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare thy soul for temptation.

2:1  Chystáš-li se, chlapče, sloužit Hospodinu, připrav svou duši na zkoušky.

2:1  Fili, accedens ad servitutem Dei sta in justitia et timore, et præpara animam tuam ad tentationem.

2:2  Humble thy heart, and endure: incline thy ear, and receive the words of understanding: and make not haste in the time of clouds.

2:2  Měj přímé srdce a buď trpělivý, nelekej se v čase potíží.

2:2  Deprime cor tuum, et sustine : inclina aurem tuam, et suscipe verba intellectus : et ne festines in tempore obductionis.

2:3  Wait on God with patience: join thyself to God, and endure, that thy life may be increased in the latter end.

2:3  Přilni k Hospodinu, nevzdaluj se od něj, a budeš poctěn ve svůj poslední den.

2:3  Sustine sustentationes Dei : conjungere Deo, et sustine, ut crescat in novissimo vita tua.

2:4  Take all that shall be brought upon thee: and in thy sorrow endure, and in thy humiliation keep patience.

2:4  Všechno, co tě potká, přijímej, v náhlém ponížení vytrvej.

2:4  Omne quod tibi applicitum fuerit accipe : et in dolore sustine, et in humilitate tua patientiam habe :

2:5  For gold and silver are tried in the fire, but acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.

2:5  Zlato se přece zkouší v ohni, a dobří lidé v peci ponížení.

2:5  quoniam in igne probatur aurum et argentum, homines vero receptibiles in camino humiliationis.

2:6  Believe God, and he will recover thee: and direct thy way, and trust in him. Keep his fear, and grow old therein.

2:6  Věř Hospodinu a ujme se tě, napřim své cesty a doufej v něj.

2:6  Crede Deo, et recuperabit te : et dirige viam tuam, et spera in illum : serva timorem illius, et in illo veterasce.

2:7  Ye that fear the Lord, wait for his mercy: and go not aside from him lest ye fall.

2:7  Kdo ctíte Hospodina, očekávejte jeho slitování, a neodvracejte se – jinak padnete.

2:7  Metuentes Dominum, sustinete misericordiam ejus : et non deflectatis ab illo, ne cadatis.

2:8  Ye that fear the Lord, believe him: and your reward shall not be made void.

2:8  Kdo ctíte Hospodina, věřte mu, a vaše odměna vás nemine.

2:8  Qui timetis Dominum, credite illi, et non evacuabitur merces vestra.

2:9  Ye that fear the Lord hope in him, and mercy shall come to you for your delight.

2:9  Kdo ctíte Hospodina, doufejte v jeho dobrodiní, ve věčnou radost a slitování.

2:9  Qui timetis Dominum, sperate in illum, et in oblectationem veniet vobis misericordia.

2:10  Ye that fear the Lord, love him, and your hearts shall be enlightened.

2:10  Pohleďte na dávná pokolení a vizte: Kdo uvěřil Hospodinu a byl zahanben? Kdo ho měl vytrvale v úctě a byl opuštěn? Kdo ho vzýval a zůstal nevyslyšen?

2:10  Qui timetis Dominum, diligite illum, et illuminabuntur corda vestra.

2:11  My children behold the generations of men: and know ye that no one hath hoped in the Lord, and hath been confounded.

2:11  Neboť Hospodin je soucitný a milosrdný, odpouští hříchy a zachraňuje v čase soužení.

2:11  Respicite, filii, nationes hominum : et scitote quia nullus speravit in Domino et confusus est.

2:12  For who hath continued in his commandment, and hath been forsaken? or who hath called upon him, and he despised him?

2:12  Běda zbabělému srdci a rukám ochablým – hříšníkovi, který kráčí dvěma stezkami!

2:12  Quis enim permansit in mandatis ejus, et derelictus est ? aut quis invocavit eum, et despexit illum ?

2:13  For God is compassionate and merciful, and will forgive sins in the day of tribulation: and he is a protector to all that seek him in truth.

2:13  Běda ochablému srdci, které nevěří – nedostane se mu proto ochrany!

2:13  Quoniam pius et misericors est Deus, et remittet in die tribulationis peccata, et protector est omnibus exquirentibus se in veritate.

2:14  Woe to them that are of a double heart and to wicked lips, and to the hands that do evil, and to the sinner that goeth on the earth two ways.

2:14  Běda vám, kteří jste vytrvalost ztratili – co uděláte, až vás navštíví Hospodin?

2:14  Væ duplici corde, et labiis scelestis, et manibus malefacientibus, et peccatori terram ingredienti duabus viis !

2:15  Woe to them that are fainthearted, who believe not God: and therefore they shall not be protected by him.

2:15  Ti, kdo ctí Hospodina, neodmítnou jeho výroky, ti, kdo jej milují, se budou držet jeho cest.

2:15  Væ dissolutis corde, qui non credunt Deo, et ideo non protegentur ab eo !

2:16  Woe to them that have lost patience, and that have forsaken the right ways, and have gone aside into crooked ways.

2:16  Ti, kdo ctí Hospodina, se mu budou chtít líbit, ti, kdo jej milují, se budou sytit Zákonem.

2:16  Væ his qui perdiderunt sustinentiam, et qui dereliquerunt vias rectas, et diverterunt in vias pravas !

2:17  And what will they do, when the Lord shall begin to examine?

2:17  Ti, kdo ctí Hospodina, připraví svá srdce, a své duše před ním pokoří.

2:17  Et quid facient cum inspicere cœperit Dominus ?

2:18  They that fear the Lord, will not be incredulous to his word: and they that love him, will keep his way.

2:18  Padněme raději do rukou Hospodinových, nikoli ale do lidských – vždyť jaká je jeho vznešenost, takové i jeho slitování!

2:18  Qui timent Dominum non erunt incredibiles verbo illius : et qui diligunt illum conservabunt viam illius.

2:19  They that fear the Lord, will seek after the things that are well pleasing to him: and they that love him, shall be filled with his law.

2:19  Qui timent Dominum inquirent quæ beneplacita sunt ei, et qui diligunt eum replebuntur lege ipsius.

2:20  They that fear the Lord, will prepare their hearts, and in his sight will sanctify their souls,

2:20  Qui timent Dominum præparabunt corda sua, et in conspectu illius sanctificabunt animas suas.

2:21  They that fear the Lord, keep his commandments, and will have patience even until his visitation,

2:21  Qui timent Dominum custodiunt mandata illius, et patientiam habebunt usque ad inspectionem illius,

2:22  Saying: If we do not penance, we shall fall into the hands of the Lord, and not into the hands of men.

2:22  dicentes : Si pœnitentiam non egerimus, incidemus in manus Domini, et non in manus hominum.

2:23  For according to his greatness, so also is his mercy with him.

2:23  Secundum enim magnitudinem ipsius, sic et misericordia illius cum ipso est.
