19:1  And it came to pass when Jesus had ended these words, he departed from Galilee and came into the coasts of Judea, beyond Jordan.

19:1  Et factum est, cum consummasset Jesus sermones istos, migravit a Galilæa, et venit in fines Judææ trans Jordanem,

19:1  And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;

19:2  And great multitudes followed him: and he healed them there.

19:3  And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

19:3  The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

19:4  Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said:

19:4  Qui respondens, ait eis : Non legistis, quia qui fecit hominem ab initio, masculum et feminam fecit eos ? Et dixit :

19:4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

19:5  For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh.

19:5  Propter hoc dimittet homo patrem, et matrem, et adhærebit uxori suæ, et erunt duo in carne una.

19:5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

19:6  Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.

19:6  Itaque jam non sunt duo, sed una caro. Quod ergo Deus conjunxit, homo non separet.

19:7  They say to him: Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorce, and to put away?

19:7  Dicunt illi : Quid ergo Moyses mandavit dare libellum repudii, et dimittere ?

19:7  They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

19:8  He saith to them: Because Moses by reason of the hardness of your heart permitted you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

19:8  Ait illis : Quoniam Moyses ad duritiam cordis vestri permisit vobis dimittere uxores vestras : ab initio autem non fuit sic.

19:8  He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

19:9  And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

19:9  Dico autem vobis, quia quicumque dimiserit uxorem suam, nisi ob fornicationem, et aliam duxerit, mœchatur : et qui dimissam duxerit, mœchatur.

19:9  And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

19:10  His disciples say unto him: If the case of a man with his wife be so, it is not expedient to marry.

19:10  Dicunt ei discipuli ejus : Si ita est causa hominis cum uxore, non expedit nubere.

19:11  Who said to them: All men take not this word, but they to whom it is given.

19:11  But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

19:12  For there are eunuchs, who were born so from their mothers womb: and there are eunuchs, who were made so by men: and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven. He that can take, let him take it.

19:12  Sunt enim eunuchi, qui de matris utero sic nati sunt : et sunt eunuchi, qui facti sunt ab hominibus : et sunt eunuchi, qui seipsos castraverunt propter regnum cælorum. Qui potest capere capiat.

19:12  For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

19:13  Then were little children presented to him, that he should impose hands upon them and pray. And the disciples rebuked them.

19:13  Tunc oblati sunt ei parvuli, ut manus eis imponeret, et oraret. Discipuli autem increpabant eos.

19:13  Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

19:14  But Jesus said to them: Suffer the little children, and forbid them not to come to me: for the kingdom of heaven is for such.

19:14  Jesus vero ait eis : Sinite parvulos, et nolite eos prohibere ad me venire : talium est enim regnum cælorum.

19:14  But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

19:15  And when he had imposed hands upon them, he departed from thence.

19:15  Et cum imposuisset eis manus, abiit inde.

19:16  And behold one came and said to him: Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting?

19:16  Et ecce unus accedens, ait illi : Magister bone, quid boni faciam ut habeam vitam æternam ?

19:16  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

19:17  Who said to him: Why askest thou me concerning good? One is good, God. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

19:17  Qui dixit ei : Quid me interrogas de bono ? Unus est bonus, Deus. Si autem vis ad vitam ingredi, serva mandata.

19:17  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

19:18  He said to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness.

19:18  Dicit illi : Quæ ? Jesus autem dixit : Non homicidium facies ; non adulterabis ; non facies furtum ; non falsum testimonium dices ;

19:18  He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19:19  Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

19:21  Jesus saith to him: If thou wilt be perfect, go sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

19:21  Ait illi Jesus : Si vis perfectus esse, vade, vende quæ habes, et da pauperibus, et habebis thesaurum in cælo : et veni, sequere me.

19:21  Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

19:22  And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad: for he had great possessions.

19:22  Cum audisset autem adolescens verbum, abiit tristis : erat enim habens multas possessiones.

19:22  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

19:23  Then Jesus said to his disciples: Amen, I say to you, that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

19:23  Jesus autem dixit discipulis suis : Amen dico vobis, quia dives difficile intrabit in regnum cælorum.

19:23  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

19:24  And again I say to you: It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

19:24  Et iterum dico vobis : Facilius est camelum per foramen acus transire, quam divitem intrare in regnum cælorum.

19:24  And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

19:25  And when they had heard this, the disciples wondered much, saying: Who then can be saved?

19:25  Auditis autem his, discipuli mirabantur valde, dicentes : Quis ergo poterit salvus esse ?

19:25  When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

19:26  And Jesus beholding, said to them: With men this is impossible: but with God all things are possible.

19:26  Aspiciens autem Jesus, dixit illis : Apud homines hoc impossibile est : apud Deum autem omnia possibilia sunt.

19:26  But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

19:27  Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have?

19:27  Tunc respondens Petrus, dixit ei : Ecce nos reliquimus omnia, et secuti sumus te : quid ergo erit nobis ?

19:27  Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

19:28  And Jesus said to them: Amen I say to you, that you who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

19:28  Jesus autem dixit illis : Amen dico vobis, quod vos, qui secuti estis me, in regeneratione cum sederit Filius hominis in sede majestatis suæ, sedebitis et vos super sedes duodecim, judicantes duodecim tribus Israël.

19:28  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

19:29  And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.

19:29  Et omnis qui reliquerit domum, vel fratres, aut sorores, aut patrem, aut matrem, aut uxorem, aut filios, aut agros propter nomen meum, centuplum accipiet, et vitam æternam possidebit.

19:29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

19:30  And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first.

19:30  Multi autem erunt primi novissimi, et novissimi primi.

19:30  But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
