42:1  Repeat not the word which thou hast heard, and disclose not the thing that is secret; so shalt thou be truly without confusion, and shalt find favour before all men: be not ashamed of any of these things, and accept no person to sin thereby:

42:1  Za následující věci se ale nestyď a neohlížej se na lidi, abys nehřešil:

42:1  Non duplices sermonem auditus de revelatione sermonis absconditi : et eris vere sine confusione, et invenies gratiam in conspectu omnium hominum. Ne pro his omnibus confundaris, et ne accipias personam ut delinquas :

42:2  Of the law of the most High, and of his covenant, and of judgment to justify the ungodly:

42:2  Nestyď se za Zákon a smlouvu Nejvyššího, za spravedlivý rozsudek i pro bezbožné,

42:2  de lege Altissimi, et testamento, et de judicio justificare impium,

42:3  Of the affair of companions and travellers, and of the gift of the inheritance of friends:

42:3  za účty, jež vedeš se společníkem na cestě, za dědictví, jež zanecháš pro své přátele,

42:3  de verbo sociorum et viatorum, et de datione hæreditatis amicorum,

42:4  Of exactness of balance and weights, of getting much or little:

42:4  za přesnost svých vah a závaží, za veliký, anebo malý zisk,

42:4  de æqualitate stateræ et ponderum, de acquisitione multorum et paucorum,

42:5  Of the corruption of buying, and of merchants, and of much correction of children, and to make the side of a wicked slave to bleed.

42:5  za peníze vydělané obchodováním, za přísnou výchovu svých dětí a za pořádný výprask špatnému otrokovi.

42:5  de corruptione emptionis et negotiatorum, et de multa disciplina filiorum, et servo pessimo latus sanguinare.

42:6  Sure keeping is good over a wicked wife.

42:6  Na ničemnou ženu je dobrá pečeť, a kde je mnoho rukou, všechno zamykej.

42:6  Super mulierem nequam bonum est signum.

42:7  Where there are many hands, shut up, and deliver all things in number, and weight: and put all in writing that thou givest out or receivest in.

42:7  Vše, co ukládáš, si zvaž a spočítej, a každý výdaj i příjem si poznamenej.

42:7  Ubi manus multæ sunt, claude : et quodcumque trades, numera et appende : datum vero et acceptum omne describe.

42:8  Be not ashamed to inform the unwise and foolish, and the aged, that are judged by young men: and thou shalt be well instructed in all things, and well approved in the sight of all men living.

42:8  Nestyď se poučit nerozumného hlupáka nebo starce, který soupeří s mladými. Takto projevíš své dobré vychování a získáš uznání všech živých.

42:8  De disciplina insensati et fatui, et de senioribus qui judicantur ab adolescentibus : et eris eruditus in omnibus, et probabilis in conspectu omnium vivorum.

42:9  The father waketh for the daughter when no man knoweth, and the care for her taketh away his sleep, when she is young, lest she pass away the flower of her age, and when she is married, lest she should be hateful:

42:9  Dcera je skrytý důvod otcovy nespavosti, starosti o ni jej okrádají o spaní: Dokud je mladá, má strach, co kdyby odkvetla, a když je provdaná, co kdyby se znelíbila!

42:9  Filia patris abscondita est vigilia, et sollicitudo ejus aufert somnum : ne forte in adolescentia sua adulta efficiatur, et cum viro commorata odibilis fiat :

42:10  In her virginity, lest she should be corrupted, and be found with child in her father's house: and having a husband, lest she should misbehave herself, or at the least become barren.

42:10  Dokud je panna, co kdyby byla svedena a ještě v otcově domě byla těhotná! Když má manžela, co kdyby ho podvedla, a když je provdána, co kdyby byla neplodná!

42:10  nequando polluatur in virginitate sua, et in paternis suis gravida inveniatur : ne forte cum viro commorata transgrediatur, aut certe sterilis efficiatur.

42:11  Keep a sure watch over a shameless daughter: lest at anytime she make thee become a laughingstock to thy enemies, and a byword in the city, and a reproach among the people, and she make thee ashamed before all the multitude.

42:11  Vrtošivou dceru hlídej velmi přísně, ať se ti tví nepřátelé nesmějí; ať po městě nejdou řeči a mezi lidmi pomluvy, ať nemáš na veřejnosti kabát z ostudy.

42:11  Super filiam luxuriosam confirma custodiam, nequando faciat te in opprobrium venire inimicis, a detractione in civitate, et objectione plebis, et confundat te in multitudine populi.

42:12  Behold not everybody's beauty: and tarry not among women.

42:12  Nenech ji předvádět svou krásu před muži a nenech ji vysedávat mezi ženami.

42:12  Omni homini noli intendere in specie, et in medio mulierum noli commorari :

42:13  For from garments cometh a moth, and from a woman the iniquity of a man.

42:13  Vždyť jako z šatů lezou moli, tak ženská špatnost z ženy.

42:13  de vestimentis enim procedit tinea, et a muliere iniquitas viri.

42:14  For better is the iniquity of a man, than a woman doing a good turn, and a woman bringing shame and reproach.

42:14  Lepší je mužská špatnost nežli ženská dobrota; od ženy pochází hanba a potupa!

42:14  Melior est enim iniquitas viri quam mulier benefaciens, et mulier confundens in opprobrium.

42:15  I will now remember the works of the Lord, and I will declare the things I have seen. By the words of the Lord are his works.

42:15  Nyní připomenu Hospodinova díla, budu vyprávět, co jsem viděl. Hospodin stvořil svá díla slovy a všechno stvoření se řídí jeho vůlí.

42:15  Memor ero igitur operum Domini, et quæ vidi annuntiabo. In sermonibus Domini opera ejus.

42:16  The sun giving light hath looked upon all things, and full of the glory of the Lord is his work.

42:16  Zářivé slunce na všechno shlíží a Hospodinovo dílo je plné jeho slávy.

42:16  Sol illuminans per omnia respexit, et gloria Domini plenum est opus ejus.

42:17  Hath not the Lord made the saints to declare all his wonderful works, which the Lord Almighty hath firmly settled to be established for his glory?

42:17  Hospodin nedal ani svým svatým, aby vylíčili všechny jeho divy, i když jim dal, aby stáli bez úhony v jeho přítomnosti.

42:17  Nonne Dominus fecit sanctos enarrare omnia mirabilia sua, quæ confirmavit Dominus omnipotens stabiliri in gloria sua ?

42:18  He hath searched out the deep, and the heart of men: and considered their crafty devices.

42:18  On zkoumá hloubku propastí i lidských srdcí a rozpoznává jejich chytré úmysly, neboť Nejvyšší zná vše, co je k poznání, už odedávna ví, co přichází.

42:18  Abyssum et cor hominum investigavit, et in astutia eorum excogitavit.

42:19  For the Lord knoweth all knowledge, and hath beheld the signs of the world, he declareth the things that are past, and the things that are to come, and revealeth the traces of hidden things.

42:19  Ohlašuje věci minulé i budoucí, odhaluje stopy věcí skrytých.

42:19  Cognovit enim Dominus omnem scientiam, et inspexit in signum ævi, annuntians quæ præterierunt et quæ superventura sunt, revelans vestigia occultorum.

42:20  No thought escapeth him, and no word can hide itself from him.

42:20  Žádná myšlenka ho nemine, jediné slovo se před ním neskryje.

42:20  Non præterit illum omnis cogitatus, et non abscondit se ab eo ullus sermo.

42:21  He hath beautified the glorious works of his wisdom: and he is from eternity to eternity, and to him nothing may be added,

42:21  Skvěle uspořádal díla své moudrosti – on, jenž je od věků a bude navěky. Nebylo co přidat ani co vzít, nepotřeboval s ničím poradit.

42:21  Magnalia sapientiæ suæ decoravit, qui est ante sæculum et usque in sæculum : neque adjectum est,

42:22  Nor can he be diminished, and he hath no need of any counsellor.

42:22  Všechna jeho díla jsou tak žádoucí – oslnivá, až oči přechází!

42:22  neque minuitur, et non eget alicujus consilio.

42:23  O how desirable are all his works, and what we can know is but as a spark!

42:23  Všechno to žije a trvá navěky, všechno poslušně plní své úlohy.

42:23  Quam desiderabilia omnia opera ejus ! et tamquam scintilla quæ est considerare !

42:24  All these things live, and remain for ever, and for every use all things obey him.

42:24  Všechno je v páru, jedno s druhým, co stvořil, tomu nic nechybí.

42:24  Omnia hæc vivunt, et manent in sæculum, et in omni necessitate omnia obaudiunt ei.

42:25  All things are double, one against another, and he hath made nothing defective.

42:25  Jedno doplňuje přednosti druhých – kdo se dost vynadívá na slávu Boží?

42:25  Omnia duplicia, unum contra unum, et non fecit quidquam deesse.

42:26  He hath established the good things of every one. And who shall be filled with beholding his glory?

42:26  Uniuscujusque confirmavit bona : et quis satiabitur videns gloriam ejus ?
