30:1  He that loveth his son, frequently chastiseth him, that he may rejoice in his latter end, and not grope after the doors of his neighbours.

30:1  Kdo miluje svého syna, bude ho často trestat, aby se z něj nakonec mohl radovat.

30:1  Qui diligit filium suum assiduat illi flagella, ut lætetur in novissimo suo, et non palpet proximorum ostia.

30:2  He that instructeth his son shall be praised in him, and shall glory in him in the midst of them of his household.

30:2  Kdo syna vychovává, tomu se to vyplatí, bude na něj hrdý před svými známými.

30:2  Qui docet filium suum laudabitur in illo, et in medio domesticorum in illo gloriabitur.

30:3  He that teacheth his son, maketh his enemy jealous, and in the midst of his friends he shall glory in him.

30:3  Kdo syna vyučuje, popudí nepřátele k závisti a bude jásat mezi přáteli.

30:3  Qui docet filium suum in zelum mittit inimicum, et in medio amicorum gloriabitur in illo.

30:4  His father is dead, and he is as if he were not dead: for he hath left one behind him that is like himself.

30:4  Když otec zemře, jako by žil dál – vždyť tu nechal syna, jenž se mu podobá!

30:4  Mortuus est pater ejus, et quasi non est mortuus : similem enim reliquit sibi post se.

30:5  While he lived he saw and rejoiced in him: and when he died he was not sorrowful, neither was he confounded before his enemies.

30:5  V životě se radoval z jeho blízkosti, nebude se nad ním rmoutit ani ve smrti.

30:5  In vita sua vidit, et lætatus est in illo : in obitu suo non est contristatus, nec confusus est coram inimicis :

30:6  For he left behind him a defender of his house against his enemies, and one that will requite kindness to his friends.

30:6  Svým nepřátelům tu nechá mstitele a přátelům toho, kdo projevuje vděk.

30:6  reliquit enim defensorem domus contra inimicos, et amicis reddentem gratiam.

30:7  For the souls of his sons he shall bind up his wounds, and at every cry his bowels shall be troubled.

30:7  Kdo syna rozmazlí, bude obvazovat rány, při každém výkřiku se mu srdce zastaví.

30:7  Pro animabus filiorum colligabit vulnera sua, et super omnem vocem turbabuntur viscera ejus.

30:8  A horse not broken becometh stubborn, and a child left to himself will become headstrong.

30:8  Nezkrocený kůň bude jančit, syn nechaný sám sobě zdivočí.

30:8  Equus indomitus evadit durus, et filius remissus evadet præceps.

30:9  Give thy son his way, and he shall make thee afraid: play with him, and he shall make thee sorrowful.

30:9  Hýčkej dítě a bude tě strašit, hraj si s ním a pak tě zarmoutí.

30:9  Lacta filium, et paventem te faciet : lude cum eo, et contristabit te.

30:10  Laugh not with him, lest thou have sorrow, and at the last thy teeth be set on edge.

30:10  Nedováděj s ním, ať kvůli němu netrpíš, ať jednou neskřípeš zuby v zoufalství.

30:10  Non corrideas illi, ne doleas, et in novissimo obstupescent dentes tui.

30:11  Give him not liberty in his youth, and wink not at his devices.

30:11  Nedávej mu v mládí příliš volnosti a nepřehlížej jeho chyby.

30:11  Non des illi potestatem in juventute, et ne despicias cogitatus illius.

30:12  Bow down his neck while he is young, and beat his sides while he is a child, lest he grow stubborn, and regard thee not, and so be a sorrow of heart to thee.

30:12  Ohýbej mu šíji, dokud je mladý, dej mu na zadek, dokud nedospěl. Jinak se zatvrdí, bude neposlušný a naplní ti srdce bolestí.

30:12  Curva cervicem ejus in juventute, et tunde latera ejus dum infans est, ne forte induret, et non credat tibi, et erit tibi dolor animæ.

30:13  Instruct thy son, and labour about him, lest his lewd behaviour be an offence to thee.

30:13  Vychovej svého syna, dej si s ním práci, jinak tě zahanbí svou drzostí.

30:13  Doce filium tuum, et operare in illo, ne in turpitudinem illius offendas.

30:14  Better is a poor man who is sound, and strong of constitution, than a rich man who is weak and afflicted with evils.

30:14  Lepší je být chudý, ale zdravý a silný, než bohatý, ale nemocný.

30:14  Melior est pauper sanus, et fortis viribus, quam dives imbecillis et flagellatus malitia.

30:15  Health of the soul in holiness of justice, is better than all gold and silver: and a sound body, than immense revenues.

30:15  Zdraví a síla je nade všechno zlato a svěží duch nad sebevětší bohatství.

30:15  Salus animæ in sanctitate justitiæ melior est omni auro et argento : et corpus validum quam census immensus.

30:16  There is no riches above the riches of the health of the body: and there is no pleasure above the joy of the heart.

30:16  Žádné bohatství není nad tělesné zdraví, žádný požitek nad radost v srdci.

30:16  Non est census super censum salutis corporis, et non est oblectamentum super cordis gaudium.

30:17  Better is death than a bitter life, and everlasting rest, than continual sickness.

30:17  Lepší je smrt než trpký život a věčný spánek než vleklá nemoc.

30:17  Melior est mors quam vita amara, et requies æterna quam languor perseverans.

30:18  Good things that are hidden in a mouth that is shut, are as messes of meat set about a grave.

30:18  Lahůdky nabízené zavřeným ústům jsou jako oběti pokládané před modlu .

30:18  Bona abscondita in ore clauso, quasi appositiones epularum circumpositæ sepulchro.

30:19  What good shall an offering do to an idol? for it can neither eat, nor smell:

30:19  K čemu jsou modle oběti? Nesní je přece, ani k nim nepřivoní! Stejné je to s tím, koho stíhá Hospodin:

30:19  Quid proderit libatio idolo ? nec enim manducabit, nec odorabit.

30:20  So is he that is persecuted by the Lord, bearing the reward of his iniquity:

30:20  Hledí na to vše a vzdychá, vzdychá jako eunuch, když objímá pannu.

30:20  Sic qui effugatur a Domino, portans mercedes iniquitatis :

30:21  He seeth with his eyes, and groaneth, as an eunuch embracing a virgin, and sighing.

30:21  Nepropadej zármutku a netrap sám sebe chmurami.

30:21  videns oculis et ingemiscens, sicut spado complectens virginem, et suspirans.

30:22  Give not up thy soul to sadness, and afflict not thyself in thy own counsel.

30:22  Radostné srdce vlévá život do žil, veselost člověku život prodlouží.

30:22  Tristitiam non des animæ tuæ, et non affligas temetipsum in consilio tuo.

30:23  The joyfulness of the heart, is the life of a man, and a never failing treasure of holiness: and the joy of a man is length of life.

30:23  Zabav svou duši a potěš srdce, zármutek zažeň daleko od sebe. Zármutek už přece zničil mnohé a není z něj žádný užitek.

30:23  Jucunditas cordis, hæc est vita hominis, et thesaurus sine defectione sanctitatis : et exsultatio viri est longævitas.

30:24  Have pity on thy own soul, pleasing God, and contain thyself: gather up thy heart in his holiness: and drive away sadness far from thee.

30:24  Závist a hněv zkracují život, předčasně se stárne kvůli starostem.

30:24  Miserere animæ tuæ placens Deo, et contine : congrega cor tuum in sanctitate ejus, et tristitiam longe repelle a te.

30:25  For sadness hath killed many, and there is no profit in it.

30:25  Spokojené srdce přidává chuti, takový člověk se dobře nají.

30:25  Multos enim occidit tristitia, et non est utilitas in illa.

30:26  Envy and anger shorten a man's days, and pensiveness will bring old age before the time.

30:26  Zelus et iracundia minuunt dies, et ante tempus senectam adducet cogitatus.

30:27  A cheerful and good heart is always feasting: for his banquets are prepared with diligence.

30:27  Splendidum cor et bonum in epulis est : epulæ enim illius diligenter fiunt.
