Chapter 22
Job DRC 22:1  Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said:
Job VulgClem 22:1  Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites, dixit :
Job KJV 22:1  Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Job DRC 22:2  Can man be compared with God, even though he were of perfect knowledge?
Job KJV 22:2  Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Job DRC 22:3  What doth it profit God if thou be just? or what dost thou give him if thy way be unspotted?
Job KJV 22:3  Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Job DRC 22:4  Shall he reprove thee for fear, and come with thee into judgment:
Job VulgClem 22:4  Numquid timens arguet te, et veniet tecum in judicium,
Job KJV 22:4  Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Job DRC 22:5  And not for thy manifold wickedness and thy infinite iniquities?
Job KJV 22:5  Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Job DRC 22:6  For thou hast taken away the pledge of thy brethren without cause, and stripped them naked of their clothing.
Job KJV 22:6  For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Job DRC 22:7  Thou hast not given water to the weary, thou hast withdrawn bread from the hungry.
Job KJV 22:7  Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Job DRC 22:8  In the strength of thy arm thou didst possess the land, and being the most mighty thou holdest it.
Job VulgClem 22:8  In fortitudine brachii tui possidebas terram, et potentissimus obtinebas eam.
Job KJV 22:8  But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
Job DRC 22:9  Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless thou hast broken in pieces.
Job VulgClem 22:9  Viduas dimisisti vacuas, et lacertos pupillorum comminuisti.
Job KJV 22:9  Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Job DRC 22:10  Therefore art thou surrounded with snares, and sudden fear troubleth thee.
Job VulgClem 22:10  Propterea circumdatus es laqueis, et conturbat te formido subita.
Job KJV 22:10  Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Job DRC 22:11  And didst thou think that thou shouldst not see darkness, and that thou shouldst not be covered with the violence of overflowing waters?
Job KJV 22:11  Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
Job DRC 22:12  Dost not thou think that God is higher than heaven, and is elevated above the height of the stars?
Job KJV 22:12  Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
Job DRC 22:13  And thou sayst: What doth God know? and he judgeth as it were through a mist.
Job KJV 22:13  And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
Job DRC 22:14  The clouds are his covert, and he doth not consider our things, and he walketh about the poles of heaven.
Job KJV 22:14  Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Job DRC 22:15  Dost thou desire to keep the path of ages, which wicked men have spurned?
Job VulgClem 22:15  Numquid semitam sæculorum custodire cupis, quam calcaverunt viri iniqui,
Job KJV 22:15  Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Job DRC 22:16  Who were taken away before their time, and a flood hath overthrown their foundation.
Job KJV 22:16  Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
Job DRC 22:17  Who said to God: Depart from us: and looked upon the Almighty as if he could do nothing:
Job VulgClem 22:17  Qui dicebant Deo : Recede a nobis : et quasi nihil posset facere Omnipotens, æstimabant eum,
Job KJV 22:17  Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
Job DRC 22:18  Whereas he had filled their houses with good things: whose way of thinking be far from me.
Job VulgClem 22:18  cum ille implesset domos eorum bonis : quorum sententia procul sit a me.
Job KJV 22:18  Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Job DRC 22:19  The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorn.
Job VulgClem 22:19  Videbunt justi, et lætabuntur, et innocens subsannabit eos :
Job KJV 22:19  The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
Job DRC 22:20  Is not their exaltation cut down, and hath not fire devoured the remnants of them?
Job KJV 22:20  Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Job DRC 22:21  Submit thyself then to him, and be at peace: and thereby thou shalt have the best fruits.
Job KJV 22:21  Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Job DRC 22:22  Receive the law of his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.
Job VulgClem 22:22  Suscipe ex ore illius legem, et pone sermones ejus in corde tuo.
Job KJV 22:22  Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Job DRC 22:23  If thou wilt return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, and shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacle.
Job VulgClem 22:23  Si reversus fueris ad Omnipotentem, ædificaberis, et longe facies iniquitatem a tabernaculo tuo.
Job KJV 22:23  If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
Job DRC 22:24  He shall give for earth flint, and for flint torrents of gold.
Job KJV 22:24  Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Job DRC 22:25  And the Almighty shall be against thy enemies, and silver shall be heaped together for thee.
Job VulgClem 22:25  Eritque Omnipotens contra hostes tuos, et argentum coacervabitur tibi.
Job KJV 22:25  Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Job DRC 22:26  Then shalt thou abound in delights in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face to God.
Job KJV 22:26  For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Job DRC 22:27  Thou shalt pray to him, and he will hear thee, and thou shalt pay vows.
Job VulgClem 22:27  Rogabis eum, et exaudiet te, et vota tua reddes.
Job KJV 22:27  Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Job DRC 22:28  Thou shalt decree a thing, and it shall come to thee, and light shall shine in thy ways.
Job VulgClem 22:28  Decernes rem, et veniet tibi, et in viis tuis splendebit lumen.
Job KJV 22:28  Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Job DRC 22:29  For he that hath been humbled, shall be in glory: and he that shall bow down his eyes, he shall be saved.
Job KJV 22:29  When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
Job DRC 22:30  The innocent shall be saved, and he shall be saved by the cleanness of his hands.
Job VulgClem 22:30  Salvabitur innocens : salvabitur autem in munditia manuum suarum.
Job KJV 22:30  He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
