Chapter 40
Job DRC 40:1  And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said:
Job VulgClem 40:1  Respondens autem Dominus Job de turbine, dixit :
Job KJV 40:1  Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said,
Job DRC 40:2  Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.
Job VulgClem 40:2  Accinge sicut vir lumbos tuos : interrogabo te, et indica mihi.
Job KJV 40:2  Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
Job DRC 40:3  Wilt thou make void my judgment: and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified?
Job VulgClem 40:3  Numquid irritum facies judicium meum, et condemnabis me, ut tu justificeris ?
Job KJV 40:3  Then Job answered the Lord, and said,
Job DRC 40:4  And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
Job VulgClem 40:4  Et si habes brachium sicut Deus ? et si voce simili tonas ?
Job KJV 40:4  Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
Job DRC 40:5  Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high, and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.
Job VulgClem 40:5  Circumda tibi decorem, et in sublime erigere, et esto gloriosus, et speciosis induere vestibus.
Job KJV 40:5  Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
Job DRC 40:6  Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him.
Job VulgClem 40:6  Disperge superbos in furore tuo, et respiciens omnem arrogantem humilia.
Job KJV 40:6  Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Job DRC 40:7  Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place,
Job VulgClem 40:7  Respice cunctos superbos, et confunde eos, et contere impios in loco suo.
Job KJV 40:7  Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
Job DRC 40:8  Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit.
Job VulgClem 40:8  Absconde eos in pulvere simul, et facies eorum demerge in foveam.
Job KJV 40:8  Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
Job DRC 40:9  Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee.
Job VulgClem 40:9  Et ego confitebor quod salvare te possit dextera tua.
Job KJV 40:9  Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
Job DRC 40:10  Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox.
Job VulgClem 40:10  Ecce behemoth quem feci tecum, fœnum quasi bos comedet.
Job KJV 40:10  Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
Job DRC 40:11  His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly.
Job VulgClem 40:11  Fortitudo ejus in lumbis ejus, et virtus illius in umbilico ventris ejus.
Job KJV 40:11  Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
Job DRC 40:12  He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together.
Job VulgClem 40:12  Stringit caudam suam quasi cedrum ; nervi testiculorum ejus perplexi sunt.
Job KJV 40:12  Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
Job DRC 40:13  His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.
Job VulgClem 40:13  Ossa ejus velut fistulæ æris ; cartilago illius quasi laminæ ferreæ.
Job KJV 40:13  Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Job DRC 40:14  He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword.
Job VulgClem 40:14  Ipse est principium viarum Dei : qui fecit eum applicabit gladium ejus.
Job KJV 40:14  Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
Job DRC 40:15  To him the mountains bring forth grass: there all the beasts of the field shall play.
Job VulgClem 40:15  Huic montes herbas ferunt : omnes bestiæ agri ludent ibi.
Job KJV 40:15  Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Job DRC 40:16  He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places.
Job VulgClem 40:16  Sub umbra dormit in secreto calami, et in locis humentibus.
Job KJV 40:16  Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
Job DRC 40:17  The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about.
Job VulgClem 40:17  Protegunt umbræ umbram ejus : circumdabunt eum salices torrentis.
Job KJV 40:17  He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
Job DRC 40:18  Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder: and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth.
Job VulgClem 40:18  Ecce absorbebit fluvium, et non mirabitur, et habet fiduciam quod influat Jordanis in os ejus.
Job KJV 40:18  His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
Job DRC 40:19  In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes.
Job VulgClem 40:19  In oculis ejus quasi hamo capiet eum, et in sudibus perforabit nares ejus.
Job KJV 40:19  He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
Job DRC 40:20  Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord?
Job VulgClem 40:20  An extrahere poteris Leviathan hamo, et fune ligabis linguam ejus ?
Job KJV 40:20  Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
Job DRC 40:21  Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle?
Job VulgClem 40:21  Numquid pones circulum in naribus ejus, aut armilla perforabis maxillam ejus ?
Job KJV 40:21  He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
Job DRC 40:22  Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee?
Job VulgClem 40:22  Numquid multiplicabit ad te preces, aut loquetur tibi mollia ?
Job KJV 40:22  The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
Job DRC 40:23  Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever?
Job VulgClem 40:23  Numquid feriet tecum pactum, et accipies eum servum sempiternum ?
Job KJV 40:23  Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
Job DRC 40:24  Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids?
Job VulgClem 40:24  Numquid illudes ei quasi avi, aut ligabis eum ancillis tuis ?
Job KJV 40:24  He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Job DRC 40:25  Shall friends cut him in pieces, shall merchants divide him?
Job VulgClem 40:25  Concident eum amici ? divident illum negotiatores ?
Job KJV 40:25
Job DRC 40:26  Wilt thou fill nets with his skin, and the cabins of fishes with his head?
Job VulgClem 40:26  Numquid implebis sagenas pelle ejus, et gurgustium piscium capite illius ?
Job KJV 40:26
Job DRC 40:27  Lay thy hand upon him: remember the battle, and speak no more.
Job VulgClem 40:27  Pone super eum manum tuam : memento belli, nec ultra addas loqui.
Job KJV 40:27
Job DRC 40:28  Behold his hope shall fail him, and in the sight of all he shall be cast down.
Job VulgClem 40:28  Ecce spes ejus frustrabitur eum, et videntibus cunctis præcipitabitur.
Job KJV 40:28
