Chapter 13
John DRC 13:1  Before the festival day of the pasch, Jesus knowing that his hour was come, that he should pass out of this world to the Father: having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
John KJV 13:1  Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
John DRC 13:2  And when supper was done (the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him),
John VulgClem 13:2  Et cœna facta, cum diabolus jam misisset in cor ut traderet eum Judas Simonis Iscariotæ :
John KJV 13:2  And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
John DRC 13:3  Knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands and that he came from God and goeth to God,
John VulgClem 13:3  sciens quia omnia dedit ei Pater in manus, et quia a Deo exivit, et ad Deum vadit :
John KJV 13:3  Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
John DRC 13:4  He riseth from supper and layeth aside his garments and, having taken a towel, girded himself.
John KJV 13:4  He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
John DRC 13:5  After that, he putteth water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
John VulgClem 13:5  Deinde mittit aquam in pelvim, et cœpit lavare pedes discipulorum, et extergere linteo, quo erat præcinctus.
John KJV 13:5  After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
John DRC 13:6  He cometh therefore to Simon Peter. And Peter saith to him: Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
John KJV 13:6  Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
John DRC 13:7  Jesus answered and said to him: What I do, thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
John VulgClem 13:7  Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei : Quod ego facio, tu nescis modo : scies autem postea.
John KJV 13:7  Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
John DRC 13:8  Peter saith to him: Thou shalt never wash my feet, Jesus answered him: If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me.
John VulgClem 13:8  Dicit ei Petrus : Non lavabis mihi pedes in æternum. Respondit ei Jesus : Si non lavero te, non habebis partem mecum.
John KJV 13:8  Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
John DRC 13:9  Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.
John KJV 13:9  Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
John DRC 13:10  Jesus saith to him: He that is washed needeth not but to wash his feet, but is clean wholly. And you are clean, but not all.
John KJV 13:10  Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
John DRC 13:11  For he knew who he was that would betray him; therefore he said: You are not all clean.
John VulgClem 13:11  Sciebat enim quisnam esset qui traderet eum ; propterea dixit : Non estis mundi omnes.
John KJV 13:11  For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
John DRC 13:12  Then after he had washed their feet and taken his garments, being set down again, he said to them: Know you what I have done to you?
John VulgClem 13:12  Postquam ergo lavit pedes eorum, et accepit vestimenta sua, cum recubuisset iterum, dixit eis : Scitis quid fecerim vobis ?
John KJV 13:12  So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
John DRC 13:13  You call me Master and Lord. And you say well: for so I am.
John VulgClem 13:13  Vos vocatis me Magister et Domine, et bene dicitis : sum etenim.
John KJV 13:13  Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
John DRC 13:14  If then I being your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you also ought to wash one another's feet.
John VulgClem 13:14  Si ergo ego lavi pedes vestros, Dominus et Magister, et vos debetis alter alterius lavare pedes.
John KJV 13:14  If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
John DRC 13:15  For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, so you do also.
John KJV 13:15  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
John DRC 13:16  Amen, amen, I say to you: The servant is not greater than his lord: neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him.
John KJV 13:16  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
John DRC 13:17  If you know these things, you shall be blessed if you do them.
John VulgClem 13:17  Si hæc scitis, beati eritis si feceritis ea.
John KJV 13:17  If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
John DRC 13:18  I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth bread with me shall lift up his heel against me,
John VulgClem 13:18  Non de omnibus vobis dico : ego scio quos elegerim ; sed ut adimpleatur Scriptura : Qui manducat mecum panem, levabit contra me calcaneum suum.
John KJV 13:18  I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
John DRC 13:19  At present I tell you, before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe that I am he.
John VulgClem 13:19  Amodo dico vobis, priusquam fiat : ut cum factum fuerit, credatis quia ego sum.
John KJV 13:19  Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
John DRC 13:20  Amen, amen, I say to you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me: and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
John VulgClem 13:20  Amen, amen dico vobis : qui accipit si quem misero, me accipit ; qui autem me accipit, accipit eum qui me misit.
John KJV 13:20  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
John DRC 13:21  When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit; and he testified, and said: Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you shall betray me.
John KJV 13:21  When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
John DRC 13:22  The disciples therefore looked one upon another, doubting of whom he spoke.
John KJV 13:22  Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
John DRC 13:23  Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
John VulgClem 13:23  Erat ergo recumbens unus ex discipulis ejus in sinu Jesu, quem diligebat Jesus.
John KJV 13:23  Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
John DRC 13:24  Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him and said to him: Who is it of whom he speaketh?
John KJV 13:24  Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
John DRC 13:25  He therefore, leaning on the breast of Jesus, saith to him: Lord, who is it?
John VulgClem 13:25  Itaque cum recubuisset ille supra pectus Jesu, dicit ei : Domine, quis est ?
John KJV 13:25  He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
John DRC 13:26  Jesus answered: He it is to whom I shall reach bread dipped. And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
John KJV 13:26  Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
John DRC 13:27  And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him: That which thou dost, do quickly.
John VulgClem 13:27  Et post buccellam, introivit in eum Satanas.
John KJV 13:27  And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
John DRC 13:28  Now no man at the table knew to what purpose he said this unto him.
John KJV 13:28  Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
John DRC 13:29  For some thought, because Judas had the purse, that Jesus had said to him: Buy those things which we have need of for the festival day: or that he should give something to the poor.
John KJV 13:29  For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
John DRC 13:30  He therefore, having received the morsel, went out immediately. And it was night.
John VulgClem 13:30  Cum ergo accepisset ille buccellam, exivit continuo. Erat autem nox.
John KJV 13:30  He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
John DRC 13:31  When he therefore was gone out, Jesus said: Now is the Son of man glorified; and God is glorified in him.
John KJV 13:31  Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
John DRC 13:32  If God be glorified in him, God also will glorify him in himself: and immediately will he glorify him.
John VulgClem 13:32  Si Deus clarificatus est in eo, et Deus clarificabit eum in semetipso : et continuo clarificabit eum.
John KJV 13:32  If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
John DRC 13:33  Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek me. And as I said to the Jews: Whither I go you cannot come; so I say to you now.
John VulgClem 13:33  Filioli, adhuc modicum vobiscum sum.
John KJV 13:33  Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
John DRC 13:34  A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
John KJV 13:34  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John DRC 13:35  By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.
John KJV 13:35  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John DRC 13:36  Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered: Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now: but thou shalt follow hereafter.
John VulgClem 13:36  Dicit ei Simon Petrus : Domine, quo vadis ? Respondit Jesus : Quo ego vado non potes me modo sequi : sequeris autem postea.
John KJV 13:36  Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
John DRC 13:37  Peter saith to him: Why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.
John VulgClem 13:37  Dicit ei Petrus : Quare non possum te sequi modo ? animam meam pro te ponam.
John KJV 13:37  Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
John DRC 13:38  Jesus answered him: Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Amen, amen, I say to thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou deny me thrice.
John VulgClem 13:38  Respondit ei Jesus : Animam tuam pro me pones ? amen, amen dico tibi : non cantabit gallus, donec ter me neges.
John KJV 13:38  Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
