Chapter 10
Luke DRC 10:1  And after these things, the Lord appointed also other seventy-two. And he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come.
Luke VulgClem 10:1  Post hæc autem designavit Dominus et alios septuaginta duos : et misit illos binos ante faciem suam in omnem civitatem et locum, quo erat ipse venturus.
Luke KJV 10:1  After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Luke DRC 10:2  And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he send labourers into his harvest.
Luke VulgClem 10:2  Et dicebat illis : Messis quidem multa, operarii autem pauci. Rogate ergo dominum messis ut mittat operarios in messem suam.
Luke KJV 10:2  Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Luke DRC 10:3  Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves.
Luke VulgClem 10:3  Ite : ecce ego mitto vos sicut agnos inter lupos.
Luke KJV 10:3  Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
Luke DRC 10:4  Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luke KJV 10:4  Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luke DRC 10:5  Into whatever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house.
Luke VulgClem 10:5  In quamcumque domum intraveritis, primum dicite : Pax huic domui :
Luke KJV 10:5  And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
Luke DRC 10:6  And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall return to you.
Luke KJV 10:6  And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
Luke DRC 10:7  And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house.
Luke KJV 10:7  And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
Luke DRC 10:8  And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.
Luke VulgClem 10:8  Et in quamcumque civitatem intraveritis, et susceperint vos, manducate quæ apponuntur vobis :
Luke KJV 10:8  And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
Luke DRC 10:9  And heal the sick that are therein and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke KJV 10:9  And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke DRC 10:10  But into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you not, going forth into the streets thereof, say:
Luke VulgClem 10:10  In quamcumque autem civitatem intraveritis, et non susceperint vos, exeuntes in plateas ejus, dicite :
Luke KJV 10:10  But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
Luke DRC 10:11  Even the very dust of your city that cleaveth to us, we wipe off against you. Yet know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand.
Luke KJV 10:11  Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke DRC 10:12  I say to you, it shall be more tolerable at that day for Sodom than for that city.
Luke VulgClem 10:12  Dico vobis, quia Sodomis in die illa remissius erit, quam illi civitati.
Luke KJV 10:12  But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
Luke DRC 10:13  Woe to thee, Corozain! Woe to thee, Bethsaida! For if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you, they would have done penance long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Luke VulgClem 10:13  Væ tibi Corozain ! væ tibi Bethsaida ! quia si in Tyro et Sidone factæ fuissent virtutes quæ factæ sunt in vobis, olim in cilicio et cinere sedentes pœniterent.
Luke KJV 10:13  Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Luke DRC 10:14  But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
Luke KJV 10:14  But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
Luke DRC 10:15  And thou, Capharnaum, which art exalted unto heaven, thou shalt be thrust down to hell.
Luke VulgClem 10:15  Et tu Capharnaum, usque ad cælum exaltata, usque ad infernum demergeris.
Luke KJV 10:15  And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
Luke DRC 10:16  He that heareth you heareth me: and he that despiseth you despiseth me: and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Luke VulgClem 10:16  Qui vos audit, me audit : et qui vos spernit, me spernit. Qui autem me spernit, spernit eum qui misit me.
Luke KJV 10:16  He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Luke DRC 10:17  And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying: Lord, the devils also are subject to us in thy name.
Luke KJV 10:17  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
Luke DRC 10:18  And he said to them: I saw Satan like lightning falling from heaven.
Luke VulgClem 10:18  Et ait illis : Videbam Satanam sicut fulgor de cælo cadentem.
Luke KJV 10:18  And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Luke DRC 10:19  Behold, I have given you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and upon all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall hurt you.
Luke VulgClem 10:19  Ecce dedi vobis potestatem calcandi supra serpentes, et scorpiones, et super omnem virtutem inimici : et nihil vobis nocebit.
Luke KJV 10:19  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke DRC 10:20  But yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you: but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven.
Luke KJV 10:20  Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Luke DRC 10:21  In that same hour, he rejoiced in the Holy Ghost and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them to little ones. Yea, Father, for so it hath seemed good in thy sight.
Luke KJV 10:21  In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Luke DRC 10:22  All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth who the Son is, but the Father: and who the Father is, but the Son and to whom the Son will reveal him.
Luke VulgClem 10:22  Omnia mihi tradita sunt a Patre meo.
Luke KJV 10:22  All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
Luke DRC 10:23  And turning to his disciples, he said: Blessed are the eyes that see the things which you see.
Luke VulgClem 10:23  Et conversus ad discipulos suos, dixit : Beati oculi qui vident quæ vos videtis.
Luke KJV 10:23  And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
Luke DRC 10:24  For I say to you that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them.
Luke KJV 10:24  For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Luke DRC 10:25  And behold a certain lawyer stood up, tempting him and saying, Master, what must I do to possess eternal life?
Luke VulgClem 10:25  Et ecce quidam legisperitus surrexit tentans illum, et dicens : Magister, quid faciendo vitam æternam possidebo ?
Luke KJV 10:25  And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Luke DRC 10:26  But he said to him: What is written in the law? How readest thou?
Luke VulgClem 10:26  At ille dixit ad eum : In lege quid scriptum est ? quomodo legis ?
Luke KJV 10:26  He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
Luke DRC 10:27  He answering, said: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul and with all thy strength and with all thy mind: and thy neighbour as thyself.
Luke KJV 10:27  And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
Luke DRC 10:28  And he said to him: Thou hast answered right. This do: and thou shalt live.
Luke KJV 10:28  And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
Luke DRC 10:29  But he willing to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbour?
Luke KJV 10:29  But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
Luke DRC 10:30  And Jesus answering, said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers, who also stripped him and having wounded him went away, leaving him half dead.
Luke KJV 10:30  And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Luke DRC 10:31  And it chanced, that a certain priest went down the same way: and seeing him, passed by.
Luke KJV 10:31  And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Luke DRC 10:32  In like manner also a Levite, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by.
Luke KJV 10:32  And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
Luke DRC 10:33  But a certain Samaritan, being on his journey, came near him: and seeing him, was moved with compassion:
Luke VulgClem 10:33  Samaritanus autem quidam iter faciens, venit secus eum : et videns eum, misericordia motus est.
Luke KJV 10:33  But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
Luke DRC 10:34  And going up to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him.
Luke VulgClem 10:34  Et appropians alligavit vulnera ejus, infundens oleum et vinum : et imponens illum in jumentum suum, duxit in stabulum, et curam ejus egit.
Luke KJV 10:34  And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Luke DRC 10:35  And the next day he took out two pence and gave to the host and said: Take care of him; and whatsoever thou shalt spend over and above, I, at my return, will repay thee.
Luke KJV 10:35  And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Luke DRC 10:36  Which of these three, in thy opinion, was neighbour to him that fell among the robbers?
Luke VulgClem 10:36  Quis horum trium videtur tibi proximus fuisse illi, qui incidit in latrones ?
Luke KJV 10:36  Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
Luke DRC 10:37  But he said: He that shewed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him: Go, and do thou in like manner.
Luke VulgClem 10:37  At ille dixit : Qui fecit misericordiam in illum. Et ait illi Jesus : Vade, et tu fac similiter.
Luke KJV 10:37  And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Luke DRC 10:38  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain town: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Luke KJV 10:38  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Luke DRC 10:39  And she had a sister called Mary. who, sitting also at the Lord's feet, heard his word.
Luke VulgClem 10:39  et huic erat soror nomine Maria, quæ etiam sedens secus pedes Domini, audiebat verbum illius.
Luke KJV 10:39  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
Luke DRC 10:40  But Martha was busy about much serving. Who stood and said: Lord, hast thou no care that my sister hath left me alone to serve? Speak to her therefore, that she help me.
Luke VulgClem 10:40  Martha autem satagebat circa frequens ministerium : quæ stetit, et ait : Domine, non est tibi curæ quod soror mea reliquit me solam ministrare ? dic ergo illi ut me adjuvet.
Luke KJV 10:40  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luke DRC 10:41  And the Lord answering, said to her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful and art troubled about many things:
Luke VulgClem 10:41  Et respondens dixit illi Dominus : Martha, Martha, sollicita es, et turbaris erga plurima,
Luke KJV 10:41  And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Luke DRC 10:42  But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke KJV 10:42  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
