LUKE
Chapter 10
Luke | Godbey | 10:1 | After these things the Lord chose seventy others also, and sent them out two by two before His face, into every place and city, where He was about to come.
Luke | Godbey | 10:2 | And He said to them, The harvest is indeed great, but the laborers are few: therefore pray you the Lord of the harvest, that He may send forth laborers into His harvest.
Luke | Godbey | 10:6 | And if the son of peace may be there, your peace shall rest upon it: but if not, it shall return unto you.
Luke | Godbey | 10:7 | Abide in the same house, eating and drinking those things which are with them: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
Luke | Godbey | 10:8 | Into whatsoever city you may enter and they may receive you, eat those things which are placed by you:
Luke | Godbey | 10:9 | and heal the sick who are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come nigh unto you.
Luke | Godbey | 10:10 | And into whatsoever city you may enter, and they may not receive you, having come out into the streets of the same, say,
Luke | Godbey | 10:11 | Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, do we wipe off against you: but know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand.
Luke | Godbey | 10:12 | For I say unto you, that it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
Luke | Godbey | 10:13 | Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were wrought in you had been in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting down in sackcloth and ashes.
Luke | Godbey | 10:14 | Moreover it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
Luke | Godbey | 10:15 | And thou, Capernaum, art thou not exalted up to heaven? thou shalt be cast down to Hades.
Luke | Godbey | 10:16 | He that heareth you heareth me; he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth Him that sent me.
Luke | Godbey | 10:17 | And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subordinated to us in thy name.
Luke | Godbey | 10:19 | Behold I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.
Luke | Godbey | 10:20 | Moreover do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens.
Luke | Godbey | 10:21 | At the same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of the heaven and the earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to babes: yea, Father, because it was thus pleasing in thy sight.
Luke | Godbey | 10:22 | And turning to His disciples, He said, All things have been delivered to me by my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, except the Father; and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom He may wish to reveal Him.
Luke | Godbey | 10:23 | And turning to His disciples, privately He said, Happy are your eyes, seeing those things which you see.
Luke | Godbey | 10:24 | For I say unto you, that many kings and prophets desired to see those things which you see, and saw them not; and to hear those things which you hear, and heard them not.
Luke | Godbey | 10:25 | And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting Him, saying, Teacher, having done what shall I inherit eternal life?
Luke | Godbey | 10:27 | And he responding said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with divine love from all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.
Luke | Godbey | 10:30 | Jesus responding said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and fell among thieves, who indeed having stripped him of his raiment, administered blows, went away, leaving him half dead.
Luke | Godbey | 10:31 | And by chance a certain priest came down that way: and seeing him, passed by on the other side.
Luke | Godbey | 10:32 | And likewise also a Levite, being at the place, coming and seeing, passed by on the other side.
Luke | Godbey | 10:33 | And a certain Samaritan, on a journey, came near him: and seeing, had compassion on him,
Luke | Godbey | 10:34 | and having come to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and having mounted him on his own beast, carried him to a tavern, and cared for him.
Luke | Godbey | 10:35 | And on the morrow, taking out two denaria, gave them to the host, and said, Care for him; and whatsoever you expend in addition, on my return, I will pay you.
Luke | Godbey | 10:36 | Which one of these three seems to you to have been the neighbor of him who fell among the thieves?
Luke | Godbey | 10:37 | And he said, The one having done mercy with him. And Jesus said to him, Go, thou, and do likewise.
Luke | Godbey | 10:38 | And it came to pass while they were going round, He also came into a certain village: and a certain woman by name Martha received Him into her house.
Luke | Godbey | 10:39 | And there was a sister to her called Mary, who indeed sitting down at the feet of the Lord, continued to hear his word:
Luke | Godbey | 10:40 | and Martha was very busy about much serving. And standing over Him, she said, Lord, is there no care to thee that my sister has left me to serve alone? then say to her that she must assist me.
Luke | Godbey | 10:41 | And the Lord responding said to her, Martha, Martha, you are solicitous and encumbered concerning many things:
