MATTHEW
Chapter 20
Matt | RKJNT | 20:1 | For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers to work in his vineyard.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:2 | And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:3 | And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
Matt | RKJNT | 20:4 | And said to them; Go also into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:6 | And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing, and said to them, Why are you standing here idle all the day?
Matt | RKJNT | 20:7 | They said to him, Because no man has hired us. He said to them, Go also into the vineyard.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:8 | So when evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:9 | And when those who were hired about the eleventh hour came, every man received a denarius.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:10 | But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; but each of them likewise received a denarius.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:12 | Saying, These last have worked but one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden and heat of the day.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:13 | But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do you no wrong: did you not agree with me for a denarius?
Matt | RKJNT | 20:14 | Take what is yours, and go your way: I wish to give to this last man, just as to you.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:15 | Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Is your eye envious, because I am good?
Matt | RKJNT | 20:17 | And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way said to them,
Matt | RKJNT | 20:18 | Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
Matt | RKJNT | 20:19 | And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and on the third day he shall be raised up.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:20 | Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, bowing before him, and asked a certain thing of him.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:21 | And he said to her, What do you wish? She said to him, Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, the one on your right hand, and the other on the left, in your kingdom.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:22 | But Jesus answered and said, You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink of the cup that I shall drink? They said to him, We are able.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:23 | And he said to them, You shall indeed drink of my cup: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:24 | And when the ten heard this, they were moved with indignation against the two brothers.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:25 | But Jesus called them to him, and said, You know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:26 | But it shall not be so among you: but whoever will be great among you, let him be your servant;
Matt | RKJNT | 20:28 | Even as the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:30 | And, behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:31 | And the multitude rebuked them, telling them to be quiet: but they cried out all the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David.
Matt | RKJNT | 20:32 | And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What do you want that I should do for you?
