33:1  No evils shall happen to him that feareth the Lord, but in temptation God will keep him and deliver him from evils.

33:1  Toho, kdo ctí Hospodina, nepotká nic zlého, ve zkouškách se zas a znovu dočká záchrany.

33:1  Timenti Dominum non occurrent mala : sed in tentatione Deus illum conservabit, et liberabit a malis. Sapiens non odit mandata et justitias,

33:2  A wise man hateth not the commandments and justices, and he shall not be dashed in pieces as a ship in a storm.

33:2  Moudrému muži se Zákon nezoškliví, pokrytec je ale jako loď v bouři.

33:2  et non illidetur quasi in procella navis.

33:3  A man of understanding is faithful to the law of God, and the law is faithful to him.

33:3  Rozumný člověk Zákonu věří, je pro něj spolehlivý jako proroctví.

33:3  Homo sensatus credit legi Dei, et lex illi fidelis.

33:4  He that cleareth up a question, shall prepare what to say, and so having prayed he shall be heard, and shall keep discipline, and then he shall answer.

33:4  Připrav si řeč a budeš mít posluchače, využij své vzdělání předtím, než promluvíš.

33:4  Qui interrogationem manifestat parabit verbum, et sic deprecatus exaudietur : et conservabit disciplinam, et tunc respondebit.

33:5  The heart of a fool is as a wheel of a cart: and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.

33:5  Jak kolo od vozu je nitro hlupáka, myšlenky se mu točí jako náprava.

33:5  Præcordia fatui quasi rota carri, et quasi axis versatilis cogitatus illius.

33:6  A friend that is a mocker, is like a stallion horse: he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.

33:6  Přítel vtipálek je jak bujný hřebec, co řehtá pod každým jezdcem.

33:6  Equus emissarius, sic et amicus subsannator : sub omni supra sedente hinnit.

33:7  Why doth one day excel another, and one light another, and one year another year, when all come of the sun?

33:7  Čím je významnější jeden den než jiný, když na všechny dny v roce svítí stejné slunce?

33:7  Quare dies diem superat, et iterum lux lucem, et annus annum a sole ?

33:8  By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished, the sun being made, and keeping his commandment.

33:8  To Hospodin je ve své mysli odlišil a určil různá období a slavnosti.

33:8  A Domini scientia separati sunt, facto sole, et præceptum custodiente.

33:9  And he ordered the seasons, and holidays of them, and in them they celebrated festivals at an hour.

33:9  Některé dny povýšil a posvětil, jiné ustanovil jako všední.

33:9  Et immutavit tempora, et dies festos ipsorum, et in illis dies festos celebraverunt ad horam.

33:10  Some of them God made high and great days, and some of them he put in the number of ordinary days. And all men are from the ground, and out of the earth, from whence Adam was created.

33:10  Stejně tak jsou všichni lidé z hlíny, vždyť Adam byl stvořen ze země.

33:10  Ex ipsis exaltavit et magnificavit Deus, et ex ipsis posuit in numerum dierum : et omnes homines de solo et ex terra unde creatus est Adam.

33:11  With much knowledge the Lord hath divided them and diversified their ways.

33:11  Hospodin je však ve své moudrosti odlišil a vedl každého po jiné cestě.

33:11  In multitudine disciplinæ Dominus separavit eos, et immutavit vias eorum.

33:12  Some of them hath he blessed, and exalted: and some of them hath he sanctified, and set near himself: and some of them hath he cursed and brought low, and turned them from their station.

33:12  Některé požehnal a povýšil, posvětil je a přivedl blíž k sobě. Jiné proklel a ponížil a odstranil je z jejich míst.

33:12  Ex ipsis benedixit et exaltavit, et ex ipsis sanctificavit, et ad se applicavit, et ex ipsis maledixit, et humiliavit, et convertit illos a separatione ipsorum.

33:13  As the potter's clay is in his hand, to fashion and order it:

33:13  Jako hlína v rukou hrnčíře, který ji tvaruje, jak se mu zlíbí, jsou lidé v rukou svého Stvořitele, který jim oplácí dle své úvahy.

33:13  Quasi lutum figuli in manu ipsius, plasmare illud et disponere.

33:14  All his ways are according to his ordering: so man is in the hand of him that made him, and he will render to him according to his judgment.

33:14  Jako dobro stojí proti zlu a život proti smrti, tak i hříšník proti zbožnému.

33:14  Omnes viæ ejus secundum dispositionem ejus : sic homo in manu illius qui se fecit, et reddet illi secundum judicium suum.

33:15  Good is set against evil, and life against death: so also is the sinner against a just man. And so look upon all the works of the most High. Two and two, and one against another.

33:15  Jen pohleď na díla Nejvyššího: samý protiklad, jedno a druhé vždy stojí proti sobě.

33:15  Contra malum bonum est, et contra mortem vita : sic et contra virum justum peccator, et sic intuere in omnia opera Altissimi, duo et duo, et unum contra unum.

33:16  And I awaked last of all, and as one that gathereth after the grapegatherers.

33:16  Já jsem procitl jako poslední, jako ten, kdo paběrkuje po vinařích.

33:16  Et ego novissimus evigilavi, et quasi qui colligit acinos post vindemiatores.

33:17  In the blessing of God I also have hoped: and as one that gathereth grapes, have I filled the winepress.

33:17  S Hospodinovým požehnáním jsem je však dohonil a naplnil lis hrozny jako jiní vinaři.

33:17  In benedictione Dei et ipse speravi, et quasi qui vindemiat replevi torcular.

33:18  See that I have not laboured for myself only, but for all that seek discipline.

33:18  Vězte, že jsem se nenamáhal jen pro sebe, ale pro všechny, kdo hledají poučení.

33:18  Respicite quoniam non mihi soli laboravi, sed omnibus exquirentibus disciplinam.

33:19  Hear me, ye great men, and all ye people, and hearken with your ears, ye rulers of the church.

33:19  Poslechněte mě, vůdci zástupů, předáci obce, popřejte mi sluchu!

33:19  Audite me, magnates et omnes populi : et rectores ecclesiæ, auribus percipite.

33:20  Give not to son or wife, brother or friend, power over thee while thou livest; and give not thy estate to another, lest thou repent, and thou entreat for the same.

33:20  Dokud jsi živ, nevydávej se všanc synu ani manželce, bratru ani příteli. Nedávej jim své jmění, abys pak nelitoval a nemusel o ně prosit.

33:20  Filio et mulieri, fratri et amico, non des potestatem super te in vita tua : et non dederis alii possessionem tuam, ne forte pœniteat te, et depreceris pro illis.

33:21  As long as thou livest, and hast breath in thee, let no man change thee.

33:21  Dokud jsi ještě živ a nevypustils duši, nenech se nikým nahradit.

33:21  Dum adhuc superes et aspiras, non immutabit te omnis caro.

33:22  For it is better that thy children should ask of thee, than that thou look toward the hands of thy children.

33:22  Je přece lepší, aby tě tvé děti prosily, než abys od svých synů čekal almužny.

33:22  Melius est enim ut filii tui te rogent, quam te respicere in manus filiorum tuorum.

33:23  In all thy works keep the pre-eminence.

33:23  Ve všem, co děláš, si podrž vedení, ať na tvé pověsti není poskvrny.

33:23  In omnibus operibus tuis præcellens esto.

33:24  Let no stain sully thy glory. In the time when thou shalt end the days of thy life, and in the time of thy decease, distribute thy inheritance.

33:24  Až v den, kdy se tvůj život završí, až v hodině smrti rozděl své dědictví.

33:24  Ne dederis maculam in gloria tua. In die consummationis dierum vitæ tuæ, et in tempore exitus tui, distribue hæreditatem tuam.

33:25  Fodder, and a wand, and a burden are for an ass: bread, and correction, and work for a slave.

33:25  Krmivo, hůl a náklad je pro osla, chléb, kázeň a práce pro otroka.

33:25  Cibaria, et virga, et onus asino : panis, et disciplina, et opus servo.

33:26  He worketh under correction, and seeketh to rest: let his hands be idle, and he seeketh liberty.

33:26  Dej otrokovi práci a užiješ si klidu; nech mu volné ruce a bude chtít svobodu.

33:26  Operatur in disciplina, et quærit requiescere : laxa manus illi, et quærit libertatem.

33:27  The yoke and the thong bend a stiff neck, and continual labours bow a slave.

33:27  Dobytku sehne šíji jho a řemení, ničemnému otrokovi kláda a mučení.

33:27  Jugum et lorum curvant collum durum, et servum inclinant operationes assiduæ.

33:28  Torture and fetters are for a malicious slave: send him to work, that he be not idle:

33:28  Pošli ho do práce, ať nezahálí, zahálka učí mnohé špatnosti.

33:28  Servo malevolo tortura et compedes : mitte illum in operationem, ne vacet :

33:29  For idleness hath taught much evil.

33:29  Nalož mu práci, jak se na něj patří, a bude-li neposlušný, nasaď mu okovy.

33:29  multam enim malitiam docuit otiositas.

33:30  Set him to work: for so it is fit for him. And if he be not obedient, bring him down with fetters, but be not excessive towards any one, and do no grievous thing without judgment.

33:30  Na nikoho však nebuď příliš přísný a nikdy nebuď nespravedlivý.

33:30  In opera constitue eum : sic enim condecet illum. Quod si non obaudierit, curva illum compedibus, et non amplifices super omnem carnem : verum sine judicio nihil facias grave.

33:31  If thou have a faithful servant, let him be to thee as thy own soul: treat him as a brother: because in the blood of thy soul thou hast gotten him.

33:31  Máš-li otroka, ber ho jako sám sebe, vždyť jsi za něj zaplatil vlastním životem.

33:31  Si est tibi servus fidelis, sit tibi quasi anima tua : quasi fratrem sic eum tracta, quoniam in sanguine animæ comparasti illum.

33:32  If thou hurt him unjustly, he will run away:

33:32  Máš-li otroka, zacházej s ním jako s bratrem, vždyť ho potřebuješ jako sám sebe. Ublížíš-li mu a on se zvedne a uteče, kde ho nalezneš?

33:32  Si læseris eum injuste, in fugam convertetur :

33:33  And if he rise up and depart, thou knowest not whom to ask, and in what way to seek him.

33:33  et si extollens discesserit, quem quæras et in qua via quæras illum nescis.
