Chapter 14
Luke RKJNT 14:1  And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
Luke RKJNT 14:2  And, behold, there was a certain man in front of him who had dropsy.
Luke RKJNT 14:3  And Jesus spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, asking, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
Luke RKJNT 14:4  But they held their peace. And he took hold of him, and healed him, and let him go;
Luke RKJNT 14:5  And answered them, saying, If one of you has a son or an ox fall into a pit on the sabbath day, which of you will not immediately pull him out?
Luke RKJNT 14:7  And he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honour; saying to them,
Luke RKJNT 14:8  When you are invited by someone to a wedding, do not sit down at the place of honour; for one more distinguished than you may have been invited;
Luke RKJNT 14:9  And he who invited both of you will come and say to you, Give this man your place; and with shame you will begin to take the lowest place.
Luke RKJNT 14:10  But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place; that when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then you shall have honour in the presence of those who are at the table with you.
Luke RKJNT 14:11  For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.
Luke RKJNT 14:12  Then he said to his host, When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your kinsmen, or your rich neighbours; lest they invite you in return, and you are repaid.
Luke RKJNT 14:13  But when you have a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
Luke RKJNT 14:14  And you shall be blessed; for they cannot repay you: but you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
Luke RKJNT 14:15  And when one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
Luke RKJNT 14:16  Then he said to him, A certain man made a great banquet, and invited many:
Luke RKJNT 14:17  And at the banquet time he sent his servant to say to those who were invited, Come; for everything is now ready.
Luke RKJNT 14:18  And they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I must go and see it: Please excuse me.
Luke RKJNT 14:19  And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out: Please excuse me.
Luke RKJNT 14:20  And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
Luke RKJNT 14:21  So the servant returned, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the crippled, and the blind, and the lame.
Luke RKJNT 14:22  And the servant said, Lord, it has been done as you have commanded, and yet there is still room.
Luke RKJNT 14:23  And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and along the hedgerows, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
Luke RKJNT 14:24  For I say to you, That none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.
Luke RKJNT 14:25  And great multitudes went with him: and he turned, and said to them,
Luke RKJNT 14:26  If anyone comes to me, and does not hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
Luke RKJNT 14:27  And whoever does not carry his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luke RKJNT 14:28  For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has sufficient money to finish it?
Luke RKJNT 14:29  Lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all who behold it will begin to mock him,
Luke RKJNT 14:30  Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Luke RKJNT 14:31  Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first, and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
Luke RKJNT 14:32  Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation, and asks terms of peace.
Luke RKJNT 14:33  So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has, cannot be my disciple.
Luke RKJNT 14:34  Salt is good: but if it has lost its taste, how shall it be made salty again?
Luke RKJNT 14:35  It is fit for neither the land or the manure pile; it is cast out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
