LUKE
Chapter 7
Luke | RKJNT | 7:1 | Now when he finished saying all this in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:3 | And when he heard of Jesus, he sent the elders of the Jews to him, begging him to come and heal his servant.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:4 | And when they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, He is worthy to have you do this for him:
Luke | RKJNT | 7:6 | Then Jesus went with them. And when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself: for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof:
Luke | RKJNT | 7:7 | Nor did I think myself worthy to come to you: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:8 | For I also am a man under authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:9 | When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned and said to the people who followed him, I say to you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:11 | And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, as did many people.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:12 | Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and many people from the city were with her.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:14 | And he came and touched the coffin, and those who bore it stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Arise.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:16 | And fear came upon them all: and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is risen up among us; and, God has visited his people.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:17 | And this report of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the surrounding region.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:19 | And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, Are you he who is to come? or should we look for another?
Luke | RKJNT | 7:20 | When the men had come to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you he who is to come? or should we look for another?
Luke | RKJNT | 7:21 | And in that same hour he cured many people of their diseases and afflictions, and of evil spirits; and to many who were blind he gave sight.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:22 | Then Jesus answered and said to them, Go your way, and tell John the things you have seen and heard; how the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the gospel is preached to the poor.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:24 | And when the messengers of John departed, he began to speak to the people about John: What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
Luke | RKJNT | 7:25 | But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed, and live luxuriously, are in kings' courts.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:26 | But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:27 | This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:28 | For I say to you, Among those born of women there is none greater than John: but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:29 | And all the people who heard him, and the tax gatherers, acknowledged the ways of God were just, for they had been baptized with the baptism of John.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:30 | But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:31 | And the Lord said, To what shall I compare the men of this generation? and what are they like?
Luke | RKJNT | 7:32 | They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We played the pipes for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge for you, and you did not weep.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:33 | For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He has a devil.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:34 | The Son of man comes eating and drinking; and you say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax gatherers and sinners!
Luke | RKJNT | 7:36 | And one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and reclined at table.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:37 | And, behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that Jesus was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster vial of perfume,
Luke | RKJNT | 7:38 | And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the perfume.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:39 | Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is who touches him: for she is a sinner.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:40 | And Jesus answered him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he said, Say it, Teacher.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:41 | There was a certain creditor who had two debtors: the one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:42 | And when they were unable to repay, he freely forgave them both. Now, which of them will love him most?
Luke | RKJNT | 7:43 | Simon answered, I suppose the one whom he forgave the most. And he said to him, You have judged correctly.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:44 | And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house: you gave me no water for my feet, but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with her hair.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:46 | You did not anoint my head with oil: but this woman has anointed my feet with perfume.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:47 | Therefore I say to you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but he who is forgiven little, loves little.
Luke | RKJNT | 7:49 | And those who reclined at table with him began to say among themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins?
