LUKE
Chapter 23
Luke | RKJNT | 23:2 | And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting our nation, and forbidding us to give taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:3 | And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answered him, You have said so.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:4 | Then Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:5 | And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, beginning in Galilee and coming all the way to this place.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:7 | And as soon as he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was himself also in Jerusalem at that time.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:8 | And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he had long wanted to see him, because he had heard many things about him; and he hoped to see a miracle done by him.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:11 | And Herod with his men of war treated him with contempt, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:12 | And that same day Pilate and Herod became friends: for before there had been enmity between them.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:13 | And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
Luke | RKJNT | 23:14 | Said to them, You have brought this man to me, as one who perverts the people: but, behold, having examined him before you, I found no fault in this man regarding those things of which you accuse him:
Luke | RKJNT | 23:15 | No, nor did Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:18 | But they all cried out at once, saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas:
Luke | RKJNT | 23:19 | (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
Luke | RKJNT | 23:22 | And he said to them a third time, Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death: therefore I will chastise him, and let him go.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:23 | And they were insistent, with loud voices demanding that he be crucified. And their voices prevailed.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:25 | And he released to them the one they asked for, he who had been cast into prison for sedition and murder; but he delivered Jesus over to their will.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:26 | And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming in from the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might carry it after Jesus.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:27 | And there followed him a great company of people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:28 | But Jesus, turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:29 | For, behold, the days are coming when they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nursed.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:30 | Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us; and to the hills, Cover us.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:31 | For if they do these things when the wood is green, what shall happen when it is dry?
Luke | RKJNT | 23:32 | And there were also two others, criminals, who were led away with him to be put to death.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:33 | And when they had come to the place, which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:34 | Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they do. And they divided his clothing by casting lots.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:35 | The people stood watching. And the rulers derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ, the chosen of God.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:39 | And one of the criminals who was hung there railed at him, saying, If you are the Christ, save yourself and us.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:40 | But the other rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, since you are under the same condemnation?
Luke | RKJNT | 23:41 | And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man has done nothing wrong.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:44 | And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour,
Luke | RKJNT | 23:46 | And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and said, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit: and having said this, he breathed his last.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:47 | Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:48 | And all the people who came together to see the sight, when they saw the things that had taken place, struck their breasts, and returned.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:49 | And all his acquaintances, and the women who followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:50 | Now, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a member of the council; a good man, and just:
Luke | RKJNT | 23:51 | (Who had not consented to their decision and deed;) a man from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:53 | And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb cut into the stone, where no man had ever before been laid.
Luke | RKJNT | 23:55 | Now the women who came with him from Galilee, followed behind, and beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid.
