25:1  Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride.

25:1  Tunc simile erit regnum cælorum decem virginibus : quæ accipientes lampades suas exierunt obviam sponso et sponsæ.

25:2  And five of them were foolish and five wise.

25:2  Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuæ, et quinque prudentes :

25:3  But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them.

25:4  But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.

25:6  And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh. Go ye forth to meet him.

25:8  And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out.

25:9  The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves.

25:9  But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

25:9  Responderunt prudentes, dicentes : Ne forte non sufficiat nobis, et vobis, ite potius ad vendentes, et emite vobis.

25:10  Now whilst they went to buy the bridegroom came: and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage. And the door was shut.

25:10  And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

25:11  But at last came also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.

25:11  Novissime vero veniunt et reliquæ virgines, dicentes : Domine, domine, aperi nobis.

25:12  But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.

25:12  But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

25:12  At ille respondens, ait : Amen dico vobis, nescio vos.

25:13  Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.

25:13  Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

25:13  Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem, neque horam.

25:14  For even as a man going into a far country called his servants and delivered to them his goods;

25:14  For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

25:14  Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens, vocavit servos suos, et tradidit illis bona sua.

25:15  And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.

25:15  And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

25:15  Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum, unicuique secundum propriam virtutem : et profectus est statim.

25:16  And he that had received the five talents went his way and traded with the same and gained other five.

25:17  And in like manner he that had received the two gained other two.

25:18  But he that had received the one, going his way, digged into the earth and hid his lord's money.

25:19  But after a long time the lord of those servants came and reckoned with them.

25:19  Post multum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum, et posuit rationem cum eis.

25:20  And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents. Behold I have gained other five over and above.

25:20  And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

25:20  Et accedens qui quinque talenta acceperat, obtulit alia quinque talenta, dicens : Domine, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia quinque superlucratus sum.

25:21  His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

25:21  His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

25:21  Ait illi dominus ejus : Euge serve bone, et fidelis : quia super pauca fuisti fidelis, super multa te constituam ; intra in gaudium domini tui.

25:22  And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me. Behold I have gained other two.

25:22  He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

25:22  Accessit autem et qui duo talenta acceperat, et ait : Domine, duo talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia duo lucratus sum.

25:23  His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

25:24  But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown and gatherest where thou hast not strewed.

25:24  Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

25:24  Accedens autem et qui unum talentum acceperat, ait : Domine, scio quia homo durus es ; metis ubi non seminasti, et congregas ubi non sparsisti :

25:25  And being afraid, I went and hid thy talent in the earth. Behold here thou hast that which is thine.

25:25  And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

25:25  et timens abii, et abscondi talentum tuum in terra : ecce habes quod tuum est.

25:26  And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not and gather where I have not strewed.

25:26  His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

25:26  Respondens autem dominus ejus, dixit ei : Serve male, et piger, sciebas quia meto ubi non semino, et congrego ubi non sparsi :

25:27  Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers: and at my coming I should have received my own with usury.

25:27  Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

25:27  oportuit ergo te committere pecuniam meam numulariis, et veniens ego recepissem utique quod meum est cum usura.

25:28  Take ye away therefore the talent from him and give it him that hath ten talents.

25:29  For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: but from him that hath not, that also which he seemeth to have shall be taken away.

25:30  And the unprofitable servant, cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

25:30  Et inutilem servum ejicite in tenebras exteriores : illic erit fletus, et stridor dentium.

25:31  And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty.

25:31  When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

25:31  Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in majestate sua, et omnes angeli cum eo, tunc sedebit super sedem majestatis suæ :

25:32  And all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats:

25:32  And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

25:32  et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes, et separabit eos ab invicem, sicut pastor segregat oves ab hædis :

25:33  And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.

25:33  et statuet oves quidem a dextris suis, hædos autem a sinistris.

25:34  Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

25:34  Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

25:34  Tunc dicet rex his qui a dextris ejus erunt : Venite benedicti Patris mei, possidete paratum vobis regnum a constitutione mundi :

25:35  For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in:

25:35  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

25:35  esurivi enim, et dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et dedistis mihi bibere : hospes eram, et collegistis me :

25:36  Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.

25:36  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

25:36  nudus, et cooperuistis me : infirmus, et visitastis me : in carcere eram, et venistis ad me.

25:37  Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry and fed thee: thirsty and gave thee drink?

25:37  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

25:37  Tunc respondebunt ei justi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, et pavimus te : sitientem, et dedimus tibi potum ?

25:38  Or when did we see thee a stranger and took thee in? Or naked and covered thee?

25:38  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

25:38  quando autem te vidimus hospitem, et collegimus te : aut nudum, et cooperuimus te ?

25:39  Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and came to thee?

25:39  Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

25:39  aut quando te vidimus infirmum, aut in carcere, et venimus ad te ?

25:40  And the king answering shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

25:40  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

25:40  Et respondens rex, dicet illis : Amen dico vobis, quamdiu fecistis uni ex his fratribus meis minimis, mihi fecistis.

25:41  Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.

25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

25:41  Tunc dicet et his qui a sinistris erunt : Discedite a me maledicti in ignem æternum, qui paratus est diabolo, et angelis ejus :

25:42  For I was hungry and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty and you gave me not to drink.

25:42  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

25:42  esurivi enim, et non dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et non dedistis mihi potum :

25:43  I was a stranger and you took me not in: naked and you covered me not: sick and in prison and you did not visit me.

25:43  I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

25:43  hospes eram, et non collegistis me : nudus, et non cooperuistis me : infirmus, et in carcere, et non visitastis me.

25:44  Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to thee?

25:44  Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

25:44  Tunc respondebunt ei et ipsi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, aut sitientem, aut hospitem, aut nudum, aut infirmum, aut in carcere, et non ministravimus tibi ?

25:45  Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen: I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.

25:45  Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

25:45  Tunc respondebit illis, dicens : Amen dico vobis : Quamdiu non fecistis uni de minoribus his, nec mihi fecistis.

25:46  And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.

25:46  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

25:46  Et ibunt hi in supplicium æternum : justi autem in vitam æternam.
