1:4  I uvrhl Hospodin na moře veliký vítr a na moři se rozpoutala veliká bouře. Lodi hrozilo ztroskotání.

1:7  And they said every one to his fellow: Come and let us cast lots, that we may know why this evil is upon us. And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

1:8  And they said to him: Tell us for what cause this evil is upon us, what is thy business? of what country art thou? and whither goest thou? or of what people art thou?

1:8  Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

1:8  Řekli mu: „Pověz nám, kvůli komu nás postihlo toto neštěstí. Čím se zabýváš? Odkud přicházíš? Z které země, z kterého lidu?“

1:8  Then they asked him, "Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?"

1:8  Then said they to him, Tell us, we pray you, for whose cause this evil is on us; What is your occupation? and from where come you? what is your country? and of what people are you?

1:8  Et dixerunt ad eum : Indica nobis cujus causa malum istud sit nobis : quod est opus tuum ? quæ terra tua, et quo vadis ? vel ex quo populo es tu ?

1:9  And he said to them: I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, and the God of heaven, who made both the sea and the dry land.

1:9  Odpověděl jim: „Jsem Hebrej a bojím se Hospodina, Boha nebes, který učinil moře i pevninu.“

1:10  And the men were greatly afraid, and they said to him: Why hast thou done this? (For the men knew that he fled from the face of the Lord: because he had told them.)

1:10  Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

1:10  Tu padla na ty muže veliká bázeň a řekli mu: „Cos to udělal?“ Dozvěděli se totiž, že prchá od Hospodina, sám jim to pověděl.

1:10  Pročež báli se ti muži bázní velikou, a dověděvše se muži ti, že od tváři Hospodinovy utíká, (nebo jim byl oznámil,) řekli jemu: Což jsi to učinil?

1:10  Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said to him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

1:11  And they said to him: What shall we do with thee, that the sea may be calm to us? for the sea flowed and swelled.

1:11  Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

1:11  Zeptali se ho: „Co teď s tebou máme udělat, aby nás moře nechalo napokoji?“ Neboť moře se stále více bouřilo.

1:13  And the men rowed hard to return the land, but they were not able: because the sea tossed and swelled upon them.

1:14  Volali tedy k Hospodinu: „Prosíme, Hospodine, ať nezahyneme pro život tohoto muže, nestíhej nás za nevinnou krev. Ty jsi Hospodin, jak si přeješ, tak činíš.“

1:14  Nakonec tedy volali k Hospodinu: „Prosím, Hospodine, kéž nezahyneme kvůli smrti toho muže. Netrestej nás za prolití nevinné krve! Vždyť ty sám, Hospodine, konáš svou vůli.“

1:14  I zvolali k Hospodinu, řkouce: Prosímeť, ó Hospodine, abychom nezahynuli pro smrt člověka tohoto, aniž na nás vyhledávej krve nevinné; nebo ty, ó Hospodine, jakž chceš, tak činíš.

1:14  Wherefore they cried to the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

1:14  Therefore they cried to the Lord, and said, "We beg you, Lord, we beg you, let us not perish for this man's life, and do not lay on us innocent blood; for you, Lord, have done as it pleased you."

1:14  Why they cried to the LORD, and said, We beseech you, O LORD, we beseech you, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood: for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you.

1:14  Et clamaverunt ad Dominum, et dixerunt : Quæsumus, Domine, ne pereamus in anima viri istius, et ne des super nos sanguinem innocentem : quia tu, Domine, sicut voluisti, fecisti.

1:15  And they took Jonah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from raging.

1:17  Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

2:3  „V soužení jsem volal k Hospodinu, on mi odpověděl. Z lůna podsvětí jsem volal o pomoc a vyslyšels mě.

2:3  a řekl toto: „Volal jsem ve své úzkosti k Hospodinu, ať mi odpoví. Křičel jsem z útrob záhrobí, abys vyslyšel mé volání.

4:9  Nato se Bůh Jonáše zeptal: Je to dobře, že ses tak rozzlobil kvůli ricinovníku? Ten odpověděl: Je to dobře, že jsem se rozzlobil ⌈až na smrt!⌉

4:9  I řekl Bůh Jonášovi: Jest-liž to dobře, že se tak hněváš pro ten břečtan? Kterýžto řekl: An dobře jest, že se hněvám až na smrt.

4:11  And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

4:11  A mně by nemělo být líto Ninive, toho velikého města, v němž je víc než sto dvacet tisíc lidí, kteří nedovedou rozeznat pravici od levice, a v němž je i tolik dobytka?“
