ACTS
Chapter 5
Acts | RKJNT | 5:2 | And, with his wife's knowledge, kept back part of the price, and brought a certain part of it, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:3 | But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Acts | RKJNT | 5:4 | While it was unsold, was it not your own? and even after it was sold, was not the money in your own power? why have you conceived this deed in your heart? you have not lied to men, but to God.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:5 | On hearing these words Ananias fell down and died: and great fear came on all those who heard these things.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:7 | And it was about three hours later, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:8 | And Peter said to her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for that much.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:9 | Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed to test the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out as well.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:10 | Then she immediately fell down at his feet, and died: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:12 | And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders being performed among the people; and they were all together in Solomon's porch.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:15 | So that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and mats, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall upon some of them.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:16 | There also came a multitude from the cities around Jerusalem, bringing sick people, and those who were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were all healed.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:17 | Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him, (that is, the party of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
Acts | RKJNT | 5:19 | But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
Acts | RKJNT | 5:21 | And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning, and taught. Now the high priest came, and those who were with him, and called the council together, the full senate of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:22 | But when the officers arrived, and did not find them in the prison, they returned, and reported,
Acts | RKJNT | 5:23 | We found the prison quite securely shut, and the guards standing at the doors: but when we opened them, we found no one within.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:24 | Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they were perplexed and wondered what would come of this.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:25 | Then someone came and told them, Behold, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:26 | Then the captain with the officers went, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people might stone them.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:27 | And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
Acts | RKJNT | 5:28 | Did we not sternly command you that you should not teach in this name? and, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:29 | Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:31 | God has exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:32 | And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:34 | But then there stood up in the council a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who had a good reputation among all the people, and he commanded that the apostles be put outside for a while;
Acts | RKJNT | 5:35 | And he said to them, You men of Israel, take care what you intend to do about these men.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:36 | For before these days Theudas rose up, who boasted of being somebody; and a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves to him. He was slain; and all those who followed him were scattered, and brought to nothing.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:37 | After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him: he also perished; and all those who followed him were dispersed.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:38 | And now I say to you, Stay away from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work is from men, it will come to nothing:
Acts | RKJNT | 5:39 | But if it is from God, you cannot overthrow it; you might even be found fighting against God.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:40 | And they agreed with him: and when they had called in the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
Acts | RKJNT | 5:41 | And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
