21:1  Then the princes of the families of Levi came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes of the kindreds of all the tribes of the children of Israel

21:1  Accesseruntque principes familiarum Levi ad Eleazarum sacerdotem, et Josue filium Nun, et ad duces cognationum per singulas tribus filiorum Israël :

21:1  Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;

21:2  And they spoke to them in Silo in the land of Chanaan, and said: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that cities should be given us to dwell in, and their suburbs to feed our cattle.

21:2  locutique sunt ad eos in Silo terræ Chanaan, atque dixerunt : Dominus præcepit per manum Moysi, ut darentur nobis urbes ad habitandum, et suburbana earum ad alenda jumenta.

21:2  And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

21:3  And the children of Israel gave out of their possessions according to the commandment of the Lord, cities and their suburbs.

21:3  Dederuntque filii Israël de possessionibus suis juxta imperium Domini, civitates et suburbana earum.

21:3  And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord, these cities and their suburbs.

21:4  And the lot came out for the family of Caath of the children of Aaron the priest out of the tribes of Juda, and of Simeon, and of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

21:4  Egressaque est sors in familiam Caath filiorum Aaron sacerdotis, de tribubus Juda, et Simeon, et Benjamin, civitates tredecim :

21:4  And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

21:5  And to the rest of the children of Caath, that is, to thee Levites, who remained, out of the tribes of Ephraim, and of Dan, and the half tribe of Manasses, ten cities.

21:5  et reliquis filiorum Caath, id est Levitis, qui superfuerant, de tribubus Ephraim, et Dan, et dimidia tribu Manasse, civitates decem.

21:5  And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.

21:6  And the lot came out to children of Gerson, that they should take of the tribes of Issachar and of Aser and of Nephtali, and of the half tribe of Manasses in Basan, thirteen cities.

21:6  Porro filii Gerson egressa est sors, ut acciperent de tribubus Issachar et Aser et Nephthali, dimidiaque tribu Manasse in Basan, civitates numero tredecim.

21:6  And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

21:7  And to the sons of Merari by their kindreds, of the tribes of Ruben and of Gad and of Zabulon, twelve cities.

21:7  Et filiis Merari per cognationes suas de tribubus Ruben et Gad et Zabulon urbes duodecim.

21:7  The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

21:8  And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, giving to every one by lot.

21:8  Dederuntque filii Israël Levitis civitates et suburbana earum, sicut præcepit Dominus per manum Moysi, singulis sorte tribuentes.

21:8  And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

21:9  Of the tribes of the children of Juda and of Simeon Joshua gave cities: whose names are these,

21:9  De tribubus filiorum Juda et Simeon dedit Josue civitates, quarum ista sunt nomina,

21:9  And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name,

21:10  To the sons of Aaron, of the families of Caath of the race of Levi (for the first lot came out for them)

21:10  filiis Aaron per familias Caath Levitici generis (prima enim sors illis egressa est),

21:10  Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.

21:11  The city of Arbe the father of Enac, which is called Hebron, in the mountain of Juda, and the suburbs thereof round about.

21:11  Cariatharbe patris Enac, quæ vocatur Hebron, in monte Juda, et suburbana ejus per circuitum.

21:11  And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

21:12  But the fields and the villages thereof he had given to Caleb the son of Jephone for his possession.

21:12  Agros vero et villas ejus dederat Caleb filio Jephone ad possidendum.

21:12  But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

21:13  He gave therefore to the children of Aaron the priest, Hebron a city of refuge, and the suburbs thereof, and Lebna with the suburbs thereof,

21:13  Dedit ergo filiis Aaron sacerdotis Hebron confugii civitatem, ac suburbana ejus : et Lobnam cum suburbanis suis :

21:13  Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with her suburbs,

21:14  And Jether and Estemo,

21:14  et Jether, et Esthemo,

21:14  And Jattir with her suburbs, and Eshtemoa with her suburbs,

21:15  And Holon, and Dabir,

21:15  et Holon, et Dabir,

21:15  And Holon with her suburbs, and Debir with her suburbs,

21:16  And Ain, and Jeta, and Bethsames, with their suburbs: nine cities out of the two tribes, as hath been said.

21:16  et Ain, et Jeta, et Bethsames, cum suburbanis suis : civitates novem de tribubus, ut dictum est, duabus.

21:16  And Ain with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Beth–shemesh with her suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.

21:17  And out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, Gabaon, and Gabae,

21:17  De tribu autem filiorum Benjamin, Gabaon, et Gabæ,

21:17  And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,

21:18  And Anathoth and Almon, with, their suburbs: four cities.

21:18  et Anathoth et Almon, cum suburbanis suis : civitates quatuor.

21:18  Anathoth with her suburbs, and Almon with her suburbs; four cities.

21:19  All the cities together of the children of Aaron the priest, were thirteen, with their suburbs,

21:19  Omnes simul civitates filiorum Aaron sacerdotis, tredecim, cum suburbanis suis.

21:19  All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

21:20  And to the rest of the families of the children of Caath of the race of Levi was given this possession.

21:20  Reliquis vero per familias filiorum Caath Levitici generis, hæc est data possessio.

21:20  And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.

21:21  Of the tribe of Ephraim, Sichem one of the cities of refuge, with the suburbs thereof in mount Ephraim, and Gazer,

21:21  De tribu Ephraim urbes confugii, Sichem cum suburbanis suis in monte Ephraim, et Gazer

21:21  For they gave them Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Gezer with her suburbs,

21:22  And Cibsaim, and Beth-horon, with their suburbs, four cities.

21:22  et Cibsaim et Beth-horon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

21:22  And Kibzaim with her suburbs, and Beth–horon with her suburbs; four cities.

21:23  And of he tribe of Dan, Eltheco and Gabathon,

21:23  De tribu quoque Dan, Eltheco et Gabathon,

21:23  And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh with her suburbs, Gibbethon with her suburbs,

21:24  And Aialon and Gethremmon, with their suburbs, four cities.

21:24  et Ajalon et Gethremmon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

21:24  Aijalon with her suburbs, Gath–rimmon with her suburbs; four cities.

21:25  And of the half tribe of Manasses, Thanac and Gethremmon, with their suburbs, two cities.

21:25  Porro de dimidia tribu Manasse, Thanach et Gethremmon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates duæ.

21:25  And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and Gath–rimmon with her suburbs; two cities.

21:26  All the cities were ten, with their suburbs, which were given to the children of Caath, of the inferior degree.

21:26  Omnes civitates decem, et suburbana earum, datæ sunt filiis Caath inferioris gradus.

21:26  All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained.

21:27  To the children of Gerson also of the race of Levi out of the half tribe of Manasses, Gaulon in Basan, one of the cities of refuge, and Bosra, with their suburbs, two cities.

21:27  Filiis quoque Gerson Levitici generis dedit de dimidia tribu Manasse confugii civitates, Gaulon in Basan, et Bosram, cum suburbanis suis, civitates duas.

21:27  And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beesh–terah with her suburbs; two cities.

21:28  And of the tribe of Issachar, Cesion, and Dabereth,

21:28  Porro de tribu Issachar, Cesion, et Dabereth,

21:28  And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon with her suburbs, Dabareh with her suburbs,

21:29  And Jaramoth, and Engannim, with their suburbs, four cities.

21:29  et Jaramoth, et Engannim, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

21:29  Jarmuth with her suburbs, En–gannim with her suburbs; four cities.

21:30  And of the tribe of Aser, Masal and Abdon,

21:30  De tribu autem Aser, Masal et Abdon,

21:30  And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs, Abdon with her suburbs,

21:31  And Helcath, and Rohob, with their suburbs, four cities.

21:31  et Helcath, et Rohob, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

21:31  Helkath with her suburbs, and Rehob with her suburbs; four cities.

21:32  Of the tribe also of Nephtali, Cedes in Galilee, one of the cities of refuge: and Hammoth Dor, and Carthan, with their suburbs, three cities.

21:32  De tribu quoque Nephthali civitates confugii, Cedes in Galilæa, et Hammoth Dor, et Carthan, cum suburbanis suis, civitates tres.

21:32  And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammoth–dor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities.

21:33  All the cities of the families of Gerson, were thirteen, with their suburbs.

21:33  Omnes urbes familiarum Gerson, tredecim, cum suburbanis suis.

21:33  All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

21:34  And to the children of Merari, Levites of the inferior degree, by their families were given of the tribe of Zabulon, Jecnam and Cartha,

21:34  Filiis autem Merari Levitis inferioris gradus per familias suas data est de tribu Zabulon, Jecnam, et Cartha

21:34  And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,

21:35  And Damna and Naalol, four cities with their suburbs.

21:35  et Damna et Naalol, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

21:35  Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities.

21:36  Of the tribe of Ruben beyond the Jordan over against Jericho, Bosor in the wilderness, one of the cities of refuge, Misor and Jaser and Jethson and Mephaath, four cities with their suburbs.

21:36  De tribu Ruben ultra Jordanem contra Jericho civitates refugii, Bosor in solitudine, Misor et Jaser et Jethson et Mephaath, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

21:36  And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs,

21:37  Of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Galaad, one of the cities of refuge, and Manaim and Hesebon and Jaser, four cities with their suburbs,

21:37  De tribu Gad civitates confugii, Ramoth in Galaad, et Manaim et Hesebon et Jazer, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

21:37  Kedemoth with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs; four cities.

21:38  All the cities of the children of Merari by their families and kindreds, were twelve.

21:38  Omnes urbes filiorum Merari per familias et cognationes suas, duodecim.

21:38  And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs,

21:39  So all the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight,

21:39  Itaque civitates universæ Levitarum in medio possessionis filiorum Israël fuerunt quadraginta octo

21:39  Heshbon with her suburbs, Jazer with her suburbs; four cities in all.

21:40  With their suburbs, each distributed by the families.

21:40  cum suburbanis suis, singulæ per familias distributæ.

21:40  So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

21:41  And the Lord God gave to Israel all the land that he had sworn to give to their fathers: and they possessed it, and dwelt in it.

21:41  Deditque Dominus Deus Israëli omnem terram, quam traditurum se patribus eorum juraverat : et possederunt illam, atque habitaverunt in ea.

21:41  All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

21:42  And he gave them peace from all nations round about: and none of their enemies durst stand against them, but were brought under their dominion.

21:42  Dataque est ab eo pax in omnes per circuitum nationes : nullusque eis hostium resistere ausus est, sed cuncti in eorum ditionem redacti sunt.

21:42  These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.

21:43  Not so much as one word, which he had promised to perform unto them, was made void, but all came to pass.

21:43  Ne unum quidem verbum, quod illis præstiturum se esse promiserat, irritum fuit, sed rebus expleta sunt omnia.

21:43  And the Lord gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

21:44  And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.

21:45  There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
