MATTHEW
Chapter 14
Matt | Godbey | 14:2 | and he said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore miracles are wrought in him.
Matt | Godbey | 14:3 | For Herod having arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison, on account of Herodias the wife of his brother Philip.
Matt | Godbey | 14:5 | And wishing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they esteemed him as a prophet.
Matt | Godbey | 14:6 | Herod's birthday being celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod;
Matt | Godbey | 14:8 | And being instigated by her mother, she says, Give me the head of John the Baptist here in a charger.
Matt | Godbey | 14:9 | And the king was grieved; nevertheless on account of his oaths, and those who were sitting with him, he commanded it to be given.
Matt | Godbey | 14:11 | and his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
Matt | Godbey | 14:12 | And His disciples, having come, took the body, and buried it; and having come they proclaimed it to Jesus.
Matt | Godbey | 14:13 | And Jesus hearing, departed thence in a ship privately into a desert place. And the multitudes hearing, followed Him on foot from the cities.
Matt | Godbey | 14:14 | And Jesus having come out saw a great multitude; and was moved with compassion in their behalf, and healed their sick.
Matt | Godbey | 14:15 | And it being evening, His disciples came to Him saying, It is a desert place, and the hour is already advanced; therefore send away the multitudes, that they having gone into the villages, may purchase for themselves victuals.
Matt | Godbey | 14:19 | And commanding the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven, He blessed them; and breaking, gave the bread to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
Matt | Godbey | 14:20 | And all ate, and were filled: and they took up the remainder of the fragments twelve baskets full.
Matt | Godbey | 14:22 | And Jesus immediately constrained His disciples to embark into the ship and go before Him to the other side, until he can send away the multitudes.
Matt | Godbey | 14:23 | And having dismissed the multitudes He went up into the mountain alone, to pray. And it being evening He was there alone.
Matt | Godbey | 14:24 | And the ship was already midsea, laboring by the waves; for the wind was contrary.
Matt | Godbey | 14:26 | And the disciples seeing Him walking on the sea, were afrighted, saying, It is a specter; and they cried out from fear.
Matt | Godbey | 14:27 | And immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer; I am here; fear not.
Matt | Godbey | 14:28 | And Peter responding said, Lord, if thou art there, command me to come to thee on the waters.
Matt | Godbey | 14:29 | And He said, Come. And Peter having come down from the ship, walked on the waters, and came toward Jesus.
Matt | Godbey | 14:30 | And seeing the wind strong, became alarmed; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.
Matt | Godbey | 14:31 | And Jesus immediately reaching out His hand, received him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Matt | Godbey | 14:33 | And those in the ship having come worshiped Him, saying, Truly thou art the Son of God.
Matt | Godbey | 14:35 | And the men of that place recognizing Him, sent into all the surrounding country and brought to Him all the sick;
