9:1  And Abimelech, the son of Jerobaal, went to Sichem, to his mother's brethren, and spoke to them, and to all the kindred of his mother's father, saying:

9:2  Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

9:2  Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Which [is] better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, [which are] seventy persons, should reign over you, or that one should reign over you? remember also that I [am] your bone and your flesh.

9:2  "Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, 'Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?' Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.'"

9:3  Bratři jeho matky přednesli o něm toto všechno všem šekemským občanům a ti se k Abímelekovi přiklonili, neboť si řekli: „Je to náš bratr.“

9:3  Bratři jeho matky to všechno o něm pověděli šechemským měšťanům a ti se přiklonili k Abimelechovi. „Je to přece náš příbuzný,“ říkali si.

9:3  Když o něm bratři jeho matky promluvili ke všem občanům Šekemu všechna tato slova, jejich srdce se naklonilo za Abímelekem, protože si řekli: Je to náš bratr.

9:3  Tedy mluvili bratří matky jeho o něm ke všechněm mužům Sichemským všecka slova tato, a naklonilo se srdce jejich k Abimelechovi, nebo řekli: Bratr náš jest.

9:4  And they gave him seventy weight of silver out of the temple of Baalberith: wherewith he hired to himself men that were needy, and vagabonds, and they followed him.

9:4  And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal–berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

9:4  Potom mu vydali sedmdesát šekelů stříbra z chrámu Baala smlouvy; za ně si Abímelek najal lehkomyslné a bezohledné muže, aby ho provázeli.

9:5  And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

9:5  Vešel do otcovského domu v Ofře a povraždil na jednom kameni své bratry Jerubaalovce, sedmdesát mužů. Zbyl jen Jótam, nejmladší syn Jerubaalův, protože se ukryl.

9:6  And all the men of Sichem were gathered together, and all the families of the city of Mello: and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak that stood in Sichem.

9:6  Všichni šekemští občané a všichni z domu Miló se shromáždili a prohlásili Abímeleka za krále při božišti u sloupu, který byl v Šekemu.

9:7  This being told to Joatham, he went, and stood on the top of Mount Garizim: and lifting up his voice, he cried, and said: Hear me, ye men of Sichem, so may God hear you.

9:7  And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

9:7  Když to oznámili Jótamovi, šel a postavil se na vrcholu hory Gerizímu, hlasitě volal a mluvil k nim: „Slyšte mě, šekemští občané, a vás nechť slyší Bůh!

9:7  And when they told [it] to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice and cried, and said to them, Hearken to me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken to you.

9:13  And the vine said to them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

9:15  And it answered them: If, indeed, you mean to make me king, come ye, and rest under my shadow: but if you mean it not, let fire come out from the bramble, and devour the cedars of Libanus.

9:15  And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

9:15  A trnitý keř stromům odpověděl: ‚Jestliže mě doopravdy chcete pomazat za krále nad sebou, pojďte se schoulit do mého stínu! Jestliže však ne, vyšlehne z trnitého keře oheň a pozře i libanónské cedry!‘

9:15  Trní tenkrát řeklo stromům: Pokud mě vskutku oddaně určíte sobě za krále, pak se do mého stínu uchylte. Ale pokud ne, z trní oheň vyšlehne, libanonské cedry sežehne!

9:16  Now, therefore, if you have done well, and without sin, in appointing Abimelech king over you, and have dealt well with Jerobaal, and with his house, and have made a suitable return for the benefits of him who fought for you,

9:16  Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

9:16  Nuže: Jednali jste věrně a bezelstně, když jste si ustanovili za krále Abímeleka? Jednali jste dobře s Jerubaalem a s jeho domem? Jednali jste s ním podle toho, jak si zasloužil?

9:17  And exposed his life to dangers, to deliver you from the hand of Madian,

9:49  And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire on them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
