37:1  A psalm for David, for a remembrance of the sabbath.

37:1  Psalmus David, in rememorationem de sabbato.

37:1  Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

37:2  Rebuke me not, O Lord, in thy indignation; nor chastise me in thy wrath.

37:2  Domine, ne in furore tuo arguas me, neque in ira tua corripias me :

37:2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

37:3  For thy arrows are fastened in me: and thy hand hath been strong upon me.

37:3  quoniam sagittæ tuæ infixæ sunt mihi, et confirmasti super me manum tuam.

37:3  Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

37:4  There is no health in my flesh, because of thy wrath: there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins.

37:4  Non est sanitas in carne mea, a facie iræ tuæ ; non est pax ossibus meis, a facie peccatorum meorum :

37:4  Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

37:5  For my iniquities are gone over my head: and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon me.

37:5  quoniam iniquitates meæ supergressæ sunt caput meum, et sicut onus grave gravatæ sunt super me.

37:5  Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

37:6  My sores are putrefied and corrupted, because of my foolishness.

37:6  Putruerunt et corruptæ sunt cicatrices meæ, a facie insipientiæ meæ.

37:6  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

37:7  I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end: I walked sorrowful all the day long.

37:7  Miser factus sum et curvatus sum usque in finem ; tota die contristatus ingrediebar.

37:7  Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

37:8  For my loins are filled with illusions; and there is no health in my flesh.

37:8  Quoniam lumbi mei impleti sunt illusionibus, et non est sanitas in carne mea.

37:8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

37:9  I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly: I roared with the groaning of my heart.

37:9  Afflictus sum, et humiliatus sum nimis ; rugiebam a gemitu cordis mei.

37:9  For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

37:10  Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hidden from thee.

37:10  Domine, ante te omne desiderium meum, et gemitus meus a te non est absconditus.

37:10  For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

37:11  My heart is troubled, my strength hath left me, and the light of my eyes itself is not with me.

37:11  Cor meum conturbatum est ; dereliquit me virtus mea, et lumen oculorum meorum, et ipsum non est mecum.

37:11  But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

37:12  My friends and my neighbours have drawn near, and stood against me. And they that were near me stood afar off:

37:12  Amici mei et proximi mei adversum me appropinquaverunt, et steterunt ; et qui juxta me erant, de longe steterunt : et vim faciebant qui quærebant animam meam.

37:12  The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

37:13  And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long.

37:13  Et qui inquirebant mala mihi, locuti sunt vanitates, et dolos tota die meditabantur.

37:13  The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

37:14  But I, as a deaf man, heard not: and as a dumb man not opening his mouth.

37:14  Ego autem, tamquam surdus, non audiebam ; et sicut mutus non aperiens os suum.

37:14  The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

37:15  And I became as a man that heareth not: and that hath no reproofs in his mouth.

37:15  Et factus sum sicut homo non audiens, et non habens in ore suo redargutiones.

37:15  Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

37:16  For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped: thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God.

37:16  Quoniam in te, Domine, speravi ; tu exaudies me, Domine Deus meus.

37:16  A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

37:17  For I said: Lest at any time my enemies rejoice over me: and whilst my feet are moved, they speak great things against me.

37:17  Quia dixi : Nequando supergaudeant mihi inimici mei ; et dum commoventur pedes mei, super me magna locuti sunt.

37:17  For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.

37:18  For I am ready for scourges: and my sorrow is continually before me.

37:18  Quoniam ego in flagella paratus sum, et dolor meus in conspectu meo semper.

37:18  The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

37:19  For I will declare my iniquity: and I will think for my sin.

37:19  Quoniam iniquitatem meam annuntiabo, et cogitabo pro peccato meo.

37:19  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

37:20  But my enemies live, and are stronger than I: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

37:20  Inimici autem mei vivunt, et confirmati sunt super me : et multiplicati sunt qui oderunt me inique.

37:20  But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

37:21  They that render evil for good, have detracted me, because I followed goodness.

37:21  Qui retribuunt mala pro bonis detrahebant mihi, quoniam sequebar bonitatem.

37:21  The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

37:22  For sake me not, O Lord my God: do not thou depart from me.

37:22  Ne derelinquas me, Domine Deus meus ; ne discesseris a me.

37:22  For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

37:23  Attend unto my help, O Lord, the God of my salvation.

37:23  Intende in adjutorium meum, Domine Deus salutis meæ.

37:23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

37:24  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

37:25  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

37:26  He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

37:27  Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

37:28  For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

37:29  The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

37:30  The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

37:31  The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

37:32  The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

37:33  The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

37:34  Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

37:35  I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

37:36  Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37:37  Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

37:38  But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

37:39  But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

37:40  And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
