Chapter 15
Mark | Godbey | 15:1 | And immediately early in the morning the high priests having made counsel with the elders and scribes, and all the sanhedrim, having bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:2 | And Pilate asked Him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And responding He says to him, Thou sayest it. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:4 | And Pilate again asked Him, saying, Do you not answer? behold, how many things they witness against you. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:6 | But during the feast he was accustomed to release unto them one prisoner, whom they asked, | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:7 | And there was one called Barabbas, having been bound along with the insurrectionists, who had committed murder during the insurrection. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:8 | And the multitude crying out began to ask, as he was always accustomed to do unto them. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:9 | And Pilate responded to them, saying, Do you wish that I may release unto you the King of the Jews? | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:11 | And the chief priests persuaded the multitude that he should rather release unto them Barabbas. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:12 | And Pilate responding again said to them, Then what do you wish that I shall do unto Him whom you call the King of the Jews. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:14 | And Pilate said to them, For what evil hath He done? And they cried out uproariously, Crucify Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:15 | And Pilate, wishing to do the multitude a favor, released unto them Barabbas.And having scourged Jesus, he delivered Him up that He should be crucified. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:16 | And the soldiers led Him into the court, which is the judgment hall; and call around Him the whole band. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:17 | And they put on Him a purple robe, and having plaited a thorny crown, put it on Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:19 | And they continued to strike His head with a reed, and spit on Him, and putting down their knees worshiped Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:20 | And when they mocked Him, they divested Him of the purple robe, and put on Him His own raiment: and lead Him away in order that they may crucify Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:21 | And they compel a certain Simon, a Cyrenean, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, that he must take His cross. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:22 | And they lead Him to Golgotha, a place which is interpreted, The place of a skull. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:24 | And they crucify Him, and divide His garments, casting the lot upon them, what each one may take. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:26 | And the superscription of His accusation was written over Him, THE KING OF THE JEWS. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:27 | And they crucify two thieves along with Him; the one on His right, and one on His left. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:29 | And passing by they continued to blaspheme Him, wagging their heads, and saying, Aha, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:31 | Likewise also the chief priests mocking to one another with the scribes, continued to say, He saved others; He is not able to save Himself. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:32 | Let Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, in order that we may see and believe. And those being crucified along with Him were reproaching Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:33 | And it being the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:34 | And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:36 | And one running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and reaching it forth on a reed, gave Him drink, saying, Let Him alone, let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:39 | And the centurion standing by in front of Him, seeing that He thus expired, said; Surely this man was the Son of God. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:40 | And there were women looking on from a distance: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and Joses, and Salome; | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:41 | who when He was in Galilee, were accustomed both to follow Him, and minister unto Him. And many other women who came up to Jerusalem along with Him. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:42 | And it already being evening, since it was the Preparation, which is the day before the Sabbath, | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:43 | Joseph, who is from Arimathea, an honorable councilor, who also himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; having taken courage came to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:44 | And Pilate was astonished if He had died already. And having called the centurion, asked him if He was already dead. | |
Mark | Godbey | 15:46 | And having purchased linen, and taking Him down, he wrapped Him in the linen, and placed Him in a sepulcher which had been hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone to the door of the sepulcher. | |
