Chapter 1
Nahu DRC 1:1  The burden of Ninive. The book of the vision of Nahum, the Elcesite.
Nahu KJV 1:1  The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Nahu VulgClem 1:1  Onus Ninive. Liber visionis Nahum Elcesæi.
Nahu DRC 1:2  The Lord is a jealous God, and a revenger: the Lord is a revenger, and hath wrath: the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he is angry with his enemies.
Nahu KJV 1:2  God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
Nahu VulgClem 1:2  Deus æmulator, et ulciscens Dominus : ulciscens Dominus, et habens furorem : ulciscens Dominus in hostes suos, et irascens ipse inimicis suis.
Nahu DRC 1:3  The Lord is patient, and great in power, and will not cleanse and acquit the guilty. The Lord's ways are in a tempest, and a whirlwind, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
Nahu KJV 1:3  The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Nahu DRC 1:4  He rebuketh the sea and drieth it up: and bringeth all the rivers to be a desert. Basan languisheth and Carmel: and the flower of Libanus fadeth away.
Nahu KJV 1:4  He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
Nahu DRC 1:5  The mountains tremble at him, and the hills are made desolate: and the earth hath quaked at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.
Nahu KJV 1:5  The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Nahu DRC 1:6  Who can stand before the face of his indignation? and who shall resist in the fierceness of his anger? his indignation is poured out like fire: and the rocks are melted by him.
Nahu KJV 1:6  Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Nahu DRC 1:7  The Lord is good, and giveth strength in the day of trouble: and knoweth them that hope in him.
Nahu KJV 1:7  The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Nahu VulgClem 1:7  Bonus Dominus, et confortans in die tribulationis, et sciens sperantes in se.
Nahu DRC 1:8  But with a flood that passeth by, he will make an utter end of the place thereof: and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Nahu KJV 1:8  But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Nahu VulgClem 1:8  Et in diluvio prætereunte consummationem faciet loci ejus, et inimicos ejus persequentur tenebræ.
Nahu DRC 1:9  What do ye devise against the Lord? he will make an utter end: there shall not rise a double affliction.
Nahu KJV 1:9  What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.
Nahu VulgClem 1:9  Quid cogitatis contra Dominum ? Consummationem ipse faciet : non consurget duplex tribulatio,
Nahu DRC 1:10  For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.
Nahu KJV 1:10  For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
Nahu VulgClem 1:10  quia sicut spinæ se invicem complectuntur, sic convivium eorum pariter potantium ; consumentur quasi stipula ariditate plena.
Nahu DRC 1:11  Out of thee shall come forth one that imagineth evil against the Lord, contriving treachery in his mind.
Nahu KJV 1:11  There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor.
Nahu VulgClem 1:11  Ex te exibit cogitans contra Dominum malitiam, mente pertractans prævaricationem.
Nahu DRC 1:12  Thus saith the Lord: Though they were perfect: and many of them so, yet thus shall they be cut off, and he shall pass: I have afflicted thee, and I will afflict thee no more.
Nahu KJV 1:12  Thus saith the Lord; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
Nahu DRC 1:13  And now I will break in pieces his rod with which he struck thy back, and I will burst thy bonds asunder.
Nahu KJV 1:13  For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
Nahu VulgClem 1:13  Et nunc conteram virgam ejus de dorso tuo, et vincula tua disrumpam.
Nahu DRC 1:14  And the Lord will give a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name shall be sown: I will destroy the graven and molten thing out of the house of thy God, I will make it thy grave, for thou art disgraced.
Nahu KJV 1:14  And the Lord hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.
Nahu VulgClem 1:14  Et præcipiet super te Dominus ; non seminabitur ex nomine tuo amplius : de domo Dei tui interficiam sculptile, et conflatile ; ponam sepulchrum tuum, quia inhonoratus es.
Nahu DRC 1:15  Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: O Juda, keep thy festivals, and pay thy vows: for Belial shall no more pass through thee again, he is utterly cut off.
Nahu KJV 1:15  Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Chapter 2
Nahu DRC 2:1  He is come up that shall destroy before thy face, that shall keep the siege: watch the way, fortify thy loins, strengthen thy power exceedingly.
Nahu KJV 2:1  He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.
Nahu VulgClem 2:1  Ascendit qui dispergat coram te, qui custodiat obsidionem : contemplare viam, conforta lumbos, robora virtutem valde.
Nahu DRC 2:2  For the Lord hath rendered the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: because the spoilers have laid them waste, and have marred their vine branches.
Nahu KJV 2:2  For the Lord hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.
Nahu VulgClem 2:2  Quia reddidit Dominus superbiam Jacob, sicut superbiam Israël ; quia vastatores dissipaverunt eos, et propagines eorum corruperunt.
Nahu DRC 2:3  The shield of his mighty men is like fire, the men of the army are clad in scarlet, the reins of the chariot are flaming in the day of his preparation, and the drivers are stupefied.
Nahu KJV 2:3  The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.
Nahu VulgClem 2:3  Clypeus fortium ejus ignitus, viri exercitus in coccineis ; igneæ habenæ currus in die præparationis ejus, et agitatores consopiti sunt.
Nahu DRC 2:4  They are in confusion in the ways, the chariots jostle one against another in the streets: their looks are like torches, like lightning running to and fro.
Nahu KJV 2:4  The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.
Nahu VulgClem 2:4  In itineribus conturbati sunt ; quadrigæ collisæ sunt in plateis : aspectus eorum quasi lampades, quasi fulgura discurrentia.
Nahu DRC 2:5  He will muster up his valiant men, they shall stumble in their march: they shall quickly get upon the walls thereof: and a covering shall be prepared.
Nahu KJV 2:5  He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.
Nahu VulgClem 2:5  Recordabitur fortium suorum ; ruent in itineribus suis : velociter ascendent muros ejus, et præparabitur umbraculum.
Nahu DRC 2:6  The gates of the rivers are opened, and the temple is thrown down to the ground.
Nahu KJV 2:6  The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
Nahu DRC 2:7  And the soldier is led away captive: and her bondwomen were led away mourning as doves, murmuring in their hearts.
Nahu KJV 2:7  And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.
Nahu DRC 2:8  And as for Ninive, her waters are like a great pool: but the men flee away. They cry: Stand, stand, but there is none that will return back.
Nahu KJV 2:8  But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.
Nahu VulgClem 2:8  Et Ninive quasi piscina aquarum aquæ ejus ; ipsi vero fugerunt. State, state ! et non est qui revertatur.
Nahu DRC 2:9  Take ye the spoil of the silver, take the spoil of the gold: for there is no end of the riches of all the precious furniture.
Nahu KJV 2:9  Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.
Nahu DRC 2:10  She is destroyed, and rent, and torn: the heart melteth, and the knees fail, and all the loins lose their strength: and the faces of them all are as the blackness of a kettle.
Nahu KJV 2:10  She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.
Nahu DRC 2:11  Where is now the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, to which the lion went, to enter in thither, the young lion, and there was none to make them afraid?
Nahu KJV 2:11  Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid?
Nahu DRC 2:12  The lion caught enough for his whelps, and killed for his lionesses: and he filled his holes with prey, and his den with rapine.
Nahu KJV 2:12  The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.
Nahu VulgClem 2:12  Leo cepit sufficienter catulis suis, et necavit leænis suis, et implevit præda speluncas suas, et cubile suum rapina.
Nahu DRC 2:13  Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will burn thy chariots even to smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey out of the land, and the voice of thy messengers shall be heard no more.
Nahu KJV 2:13  Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
Chapter 3
Nahu DRC 3:1  Woe to thee, O city of blood, all full of lies and violence: rapine shall not depart from thee.
Nahu KJV 3:1  Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;
Nahu VulgClem 3:1  Væ civitas sanguinum, universa mendacii dilaceratione plena ! non recedet a te rapina.
Nahu DRC 3:2  The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the neighing horse; and of the running chariot, and of the horsemen coming up,
Nahu KJV 3:2  The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
Nahu VulgClem 3:2  Vox flagelli, et vox impetus rotæ, et equi frementis, et quadrigæ ferventis, et equitis ascendentis,
Nahu DRC 3:3  And of the shining sword, and of the glittering spear, and of a multitude slain, and of a grievous destruction: and there is no end of carcasses, and they shall fall down on their dead bodies.
Nahu KJV 3:3  The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
Nahu VulgClem 3:3  et micantis gladii, et fulgurantis hastæ, et multitudinis interfectæ, et gravis ruinæ ; nec est finis cadaverum, et corruent in corporibus suis.
Nahu DRC 3:4  Because of the multitude of the fornications of the harlot that was beautiful and agreeable, and that made use of witchcraft, that sold nations through her fornications, and families through her witchcrafts.
Nahu KJV 3:4  Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
Nahu VulgClem 3:4  Propter multitudinem fornicationum meretricis speciosæ, et gratæ, et habentis maleficia, quæ vendidit gentes in fornicationibus suis, et familias in maleficiis suis.
Nahu DRC 3:5  Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will discover thy shame to thy face, and will shew thy nakedness to the nations, and thy shame to kingdoms.
Nahu KJV 3:5  Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
Nahu DRC 3:6  And I will cast abominations upon thee, and will disgrace thee, and will make an example of thee.
Nahu KJV 3:6  And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.
Nahu VulgClem 3:6  Et projiciam super te abominationes, et contumeliis te afficiam, et ponam te in exemplum.
Nahu DRC 3:7  And it shall come to pass that every one that shall see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say: Ninive is laid waste: who shall bemoan thee? whence shall I seek a comforter for thee?
Nahu KJV 3:7  And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
Quis commovebit super te caput ? unde quæram consolatorem tibi ?
Nahu DRC 3:8  Art thou better than the populous Alexandria, that dwelleth among the rivers? waters are round about it: the sea is its riches: the waters are its walls.
Nahu KJV 3:8  Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?
Nahu VulgClem 3:8  Numquid melior es Alexandria populorum, quæ habitat in fluminibus ? aquæ in circuitu ejus ; cujus divitiæ, mare ; aquæ, muri ejus.
Nahu DRC 3:9  Ethiopia and Egypt were the strength thereof, and there is no end: Africa and the Libyans were thy helpers.
Nahu KJV 3:9  Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
Nahu DRC 3:10  Yet she also was removed and carried into captivity: her young children were dashed in pieces at the top of every street, and they cast lots upon her nobles, and all her great men were bound in fetters.
Nahu KJV 3:10  Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Nahu DRC 3:11  Therefore thou also shalt be made drunk, and shalt be despised: and thou shalt seek help from the enemies.
Nahu KJV 3:11  Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
Nahu DRC 3:12  All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with their green figs: if they be shaken, they shall fall into the mouth of the eater.
Nahu KJV 3:12  All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
Nahu VulgClem 3:12  Omnes munitiones tuæ sicut ficus cum grossis suis : si concussæ fuerint, cadent in os comedentis.
Nahu DRC 3:13  Behold thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open to thy enemies, the fire shall devour thy bars.
Nahu KJV 3:13  Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
Nahu VulgClem 3:13  Ecce populus tuus mulieres in medio tui : inimicis tuis adapertione pandentur portæ terræ tuæ, devorabit ignis vectes tuos.
Nahu DRC 3:14  Draw thee water for the siege, build up thy bulwarks: go into the clay, and tread, work it and make brick.
Nahu KJV 3:14  Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
Nahu VulgClem 3:14  Aquam propter obsidionem hauri tibi : exstrue munitiones tuas, intra in lutum, et calca, subigens tene laterem.
Nahu DRC 3:15  There shall the fire devour thee: thou shalt perish by the sword, it shall devour thee like the bruchus: assemble together like the bruchus, make thyself many like the locust.
Nahu KJV 3:15  There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.
Nahu VulgClem 3:15  Ibi comedet te ignis, peribis gladio, devorabit te ut bruchus : congregare ut bruchus, multiplicare ut locusta.
Nahu DRC 3:16  Thou hast multiplied thy merchandises above the stars of heaven: the bruchus hath spread himself and flown away.
Nahu KJV 3:16  Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.
Nahu DRC 3:17  Thy guards are like the locusts: and thy little ones like the locusts of locusts which swarm on the hedges in the day of cold: the sun arose, and they flew away, and their place was not known where they were.
Nahu KJV 3:17  Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Nahu DRC 3:18  Thy shepherds have slumbered, O king of Assyria, thy princes shall be buried: thy people are hid in the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
Nahu KJV 3:18  Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.
Nahu DRC 3:19  Thy destruction is not hidden, thy wound is grievous: all that have heard the fame of thee, have clapped their hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
Nahu KJV 3:19  There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
Nahu VulgClem 3:19  Non est obscura contritio tua ; pessima est plaga tua. Omnes qui audierunt auditionem tuam compresserunt manum super te : quia super quem non transiit malitia tua semper ?
