Chapter 5
Matt Worsley 5:1  And seeing the multitudes He went up to a mountain, and when He was set down, His disciples came to Him,
Matt Worsley 5:2  and He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
Matt Worsley 5:3  Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matt Worsley 5:4  Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.
Matt Worsley 5:5  Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.
Matt Worsley 5:6  Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be satisfied.
Matt Worsley 5:7  Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.
Matt Worsley 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.
Matt Worsley 5:9  Blessed are the peace-makers; for they shall be called the children of God.
Matt Worsley 5:10  Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matt Worsley 5:11  Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake:
Matt Worsley 5:12  rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great will be your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets, that were before you.
Matt Worsley 5:13  Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt be grown insipid, wherewith shall it be seasoned? it is no longer fit for any thing, but to be thrown out of doors, and trodden under foot.
Matt Worsley 5:14  Ye are the light of the world: a city, that is situated on a hill, cannot be hid.
Matt Worsley 5:15  Nor do men light a candle, to put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and then it giveth light to all in the house.
Matt Worsley 5:16  So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, who is in heaven.
Matt Worsley 5:17  Think not that I am come to abrogate the law, or the prophets: I am not come to abolish, but to compleat them:
Matt Worsley 5:18  for verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot nor one tittle shall pass from the law, till all be compleated.
Matt Worsley 5:19  Whosoever therefore shall break one of the left of these commandments, and thereby teach men so to do, he shall be esteemed very little in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do as well as teach them, he shall be accounted great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matt Worsley 5:20  For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matt Worsley 5:21  Ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever committeth murder, shall be liable to the judgment:
Matt Worsley 5:22  but I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be liable to the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be obnoxious to the council; but whosoever shall say, "Thou fool," shall be in danger of hell-fire.
Matt Worsley 5:23  Therefore, if thou bring thine offering to the altar, and there remembrest that thy brother hath any complaint against thee;
Matt Worsley 5:24  leave thy gift there before the altar, and go and first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matt Worsley 5:25  Be friends with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; least the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison:
Matt Worsley 5:26  verily, I say unto thee, thou shalt not come out from thence, till thou hast paid the very last farthing.
Matt Worsley 5:27  Ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Matt Worsley 5:28  but I tell you, that whosoever looketh on a woman, so as to lust after her, hath already debauched her in his heart.
Matt Worsley 5:29  And therefore if thy right eye cause thee to offend, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one part of thee perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell:
Matt Worsley 5:30  and if thy right hand cause thee to offend, cut it off and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one of thy limbs should perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Matt Worsley 5:31  And it has been said, whosoever would put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce:
Matt Worsley 5:32  but I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except on account of whoredom, tempteth her to commit adultery; and if any man marry her that is divorced, he committeth adultery.
Matt Worsley 5:33  Again, ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Matt Worsley 5:34  but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Matt Worsley 5:35  nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King: neither shalt thou swear by thy head,
Matt Worsley 5:36  for thou canst not make one hair of it white or black:
Matt Worsley 5:37  but let your conversation be yea, yea; no, no; for whatever is more than these, cometh from the evil one.
Matt Worsley 5:38  Ye have heard, that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Matt Worsley 5:39  but I say unto you, Set not yourselves against him that injures you, but if any one smite thee on thy right cheek, rather turn to him the other also:
Matt Worsley 5:40  and if any one would go to law with thee, to take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also, rather than strive with him:
Matt Worsley 5:41  and if any one shall force thee one mile, go with him two.
Matt Worsley 5:42  Give to him that asketh thee, and him, that would borrow of thee, turn not away.
Matt Worsley 5:43  Ye have heard, that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy:
Matt Worsley 5:44  but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that abuse you and persecute you;
Matt Worsley 5:45  that ye may be the children of your heavenly Father; for He causeth his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain upon the just and the unjust.
Matt Worsley 5:46  For if ye love only them that love you, what reward do ye expect? do not even the publicans the same?
Matt Worsley 5:47  and if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not the publicans so likewise?
Matt Worsley 5:48  Be ye therefore perfect in love and goodness, as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
