Chapter 1
Haba DRC 1:1  The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
Haba VulgClem 1:1  Onus quod vidit Habacuc propheta.
Haba KJV 1:1  The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
Haba DRC 1:2  How long, O Lord, shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? shall I cry out to thee suffering violence, and thou wilt not save?
Haba KJV 1:2  O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
Haba DRC 1:3  Why hast thou shewn me iniquity and grievance, to see rapine and injustice before me? and there is a judgment, but opposition is more powerful.
Haba VulgClem 1:3  Quare ostendisti mihi iniquitatem et laborem, videre prædam et injustitiam contra me ? Et factum est judicium, et contradictio potentior.
Haba KJV 1:3  Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
Haba DRC 1:4  Therefore the law is torn in pieces, and judgment cometh not to the end: because the wicked prevaileth against the just, therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.
Haba KJV 1:4  Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
Haba DRC 1:5  Behold ye among the nations, and see: wonder, and be astonished: for a work is done in your days, which no man will believe when it shall be told.
Haba KJV 1:5  Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
Haba DRC 1:6  For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift nation, marching upon the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not their own.
Haba KJV 1:6  For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
Haba DRC 1:7  They are dreadful, and terrible: from themselves shall their judgment, and their burden proceed.
Haba KJV 1:7  They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
Haba DRC 1:8  Their horses are lighter than leopards, and swifter than evening wolves; and their horsemen shall be spread abroad: for their horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that maketh haste to eat.
Haba KJV 1:8  Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
Haba DRC 1:9  They shall all come to the prey, their face is like a burning wind: and they shall gather together captives as the sand.
Haba VulgClem 1:9  Omnes ad prædam venient, facies eorum ventus urens ; et congregabit quasi arenam captivitatem.
Haba KJV 1:9  They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
Haba DRC 1:10  And their prince shall triumph over kings, and princes shall be his laughingstock: and he shall laugh at every strong hold, and shall cast up a mount, and shall take it.
Haba KJV 1:10  And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
Haba DRC 1:11  Then shall his spirit be changed, and he shall pass, and fall: this is his strength of his god.
Haba KJV 1:11  Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
Haba DRC 1:12  Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.
Haba KJV 1:12  Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
Haba DRC 1:13  Thy eyes are too pure to behold evil, and thou canst not look on iniquity. Why lookest thou upon them that do unjust things, and holdest thy peace when the wicked devoureth the man that is more just than himself?
Haba KJV 1:13  Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
Haba DRC 1:14  And thou wilt make men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things that have no ruler.
Haba VulgClem 1:14  Et facies homines quasi pisces maris, et quasi reptile non habens principem.
Haba KJV 1:14  And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
Haba DRC 1:15  He lifted up all them with his hook, he drew them in his drag, and gathered them into his net: for this he will be glad and rejoice.
Haba VulgClem 1:15  Totum in hamo sublevavit, traxit illud in sagena sua, et congregavit in rete suum. Super hoc lætabitur, et exsultabit.
Haba KJV 1:15  They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
Haba DRC 1:16  Therefore will he offer victims to his drag, and he will sacrifice to his net: because through them his portion is made fat, and his meat dainty.
Haba VulgClem 1:16  Propterea immolabit sagenæ suæ, et sacrificabit reti suo, quia in ipsis incrassata est pars ejus, et cibus ejus electus.
Haba KJV 1:16  Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.
Haba DRC 1:17  For this cause therefore he spreadeth his net, and will not spare continually to slay the nations.
Haba KJV 1:17  Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
Chapter 2
Haba DRC 2:1  I will stand upon my watch, and fix my foot upon the tower: and I will watch, to see what will be said to me, and what I may answer to him that reproveth me.
Haba KJV 2:1  I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Haba DRC 2:2  And the Lord answered me, and said: Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables: that he that readeth it may run over it.
Haba KJV 2:2  And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Haba DRC 2:3  For as yet the vision is far off, and it shall appear at the end, and shall not lie: if it make any delay, wait for it: for it shall surely come, and it shall not be slack.
Haba KJV 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Haba DRC 2:4  Behold, he that is unbelieving, his soul shall not be right in himself: but the just shall live in his faith.
Haba KJV 2:4  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Haba DRC 2:5  And as wine deceiveth him that drinketh it: so shall the proud man be, and he shall not be honoured: who hath enlarged his desire like hell: and is himself like death, and he is never satisfied: but will gather together unto him all nations, and heap together unto him all people.
Haba KJV 2:5  Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
Haba DRC 2:6  Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a dark speech concerning him: and it shall be said: Woe to him that heapeth together that which is not his own? how long also doth he load himself with thick clay?
Haba KJV 2:6  Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
Haba DRC 2:7  Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee: and they be stirred up that shall tear thee, and thou shalt be a spoil to them?
Haba KJV 2:7  Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Haba DRC 2:8  Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all that shall be left of the people shall spoil thee: because of men's blood, and for the iniquity of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Haba VulgClem 2:8  Quia tu spoliasti gentes multas, spoliabunt te omnes qui reliqui fuerint de populis, propter sanguinem hominis, et iniquitatem terræ, civitatis, et omnium habitantium in ea.
Haba KJV 2:8  Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Haba DRC 2:9  Woe to him that gathereth together an evil covetousness to his house, that his nest may be on high, and thinketh he may be delivered out of the hand of evil.
Haba KJV 2:9  Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Haba DRC 2:10  Thou hast devised confusion to thy house, thou hast cut off many people, and thy soul hath sinned.
Haba VulgClem 2:10  Cogitasti confusionem domui tuæ ; concidisti populos multos, et peccavit anima tua.
Haba KJV 2:10  Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.
Haba DRC 2:11  For the stone shall cry out of the wall: and the timber that is between the joints of the building, shall answer.
Haba KJV 2:11  For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
Haba DRC 2:12  Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and prepareth a city by iniquity.
Haba VulgClem 2:12  Væ qui ædificat civitatem in sanguinibus, et præparat urbem in iniquitate !
Haba KJV 2:12  Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
Haba DRC 2:13  Are not these things from the Lord of hosts? for the people shall labour in a great fire: and the nations in vain, and they shall faint.
Haba KJV 2:13  Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?
Haba DRC 2:14  For the earth shall be filled, that men may know the glory of the Lord, as waters covering the sea.
Haba VulgClem 2:14  Quia replebitur terra, ut cognoscant gloriam Domini, quasi aquæ operientes mare.
Haba KJV 2:14  For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
Haba DRC 2:15  Woe to him that giveth drink to his friend, and presenteth his gall, and maketh him drunk, that he may behold his nakedness.
Haba KJV 2:15  Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
Haba DRC 2:16  Thou art filled with shame instead of glory: drink thou also, and fall fast asleep: the cup of the right hand of the Lord shall compass thee, and shameful vomiting shall be on thy glory.
Haba KJV 2:16  Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the Lord’s right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.
Haba DRC 2:17  For the iniquity of Libanus shall cover thee, and the ravaging of beasts shall terrify them because of the blood of men, and the iniquity of the land, and of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Haba KJV 2:17  For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Haba DRC 2:18  What doth the graven thing avail, because the maker thereof hath graven it, a molten, and a false image? because the forger thereof hath trusted in a thing of his own forging, to make dumb idols.
Haba VulgClem 2:18  Quid prodest sculptile, quia sculpsit illud fictor suus, conflatile, et imaginem falsam ? quia speravit in figmento fictor ejus, ut faceret simulacra muta.
Haba KJV 2:18  What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
Haba DRC 2:19  Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.
Haba KJV 2:19  Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Haba DRC 2:20  But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
Haba VulgClem 2:20  Dominus autem in templo sancto suo : sileat a facie ejus omnis terra !
Haba KJV 2:20  But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
Chapter 3
Haba DRC 3:1  A PRAYER OF Habakkuk THE PROPHET FOR IGNORANCES.
Haba VulgClem 3:1  Oratio Habacuc prophetæ, pro ignorantiis.
Haba KJV 3:1  A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
Haba DRC 3:2  O Lord, I have heard thy hearing, and was afraid. O Lord, thy work, in the midst of the years bring it to life: In the midst of the years thou shalt make it known: when thou art angry, thou wilt remember mercy.
Haba VulgClem 3:2  Domine, audivi auditionem tuam, et timui. Domine, opus tuum, in medio annorum vivifica illud ; in medio annorum notum facies : cum iratus fueris, misericordiæ recordaberis.
Haba KJV 3:2  O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
Haba DRC 3:3  God will come from the south, and the holy one from mount Pharan: His glory covered the heavens, and the earth is full of his praise.
Haba KJV 3:3  God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
Haba DRC 3:4  His brightness shall be as the light: horns are in his hands: There is his strength hid:
Haba VulgClem 3:4  Splendor ejus ut lux erit, cornua in manibus ejus : ibi abscondita est fortitudo ejus.
Haba KJV 3:4  And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.
Haba DRC 3:5  Death shall go before his face. And the devil shall go forth before his feet.
Haba VulgClem 3:5  Ante faciem ejus ibit mors, et egredietur diabolus ante pedes ejus.
Haba KJV 3:5  Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
Haba DRC 3:6  He stood and measured the earth. He beheld, and melted the nations: and the ancient mountains were crushed to pieces. The hills of the world were bowed down by the journeys of his eternity.
Haba KJV 3:6  He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
Haba DRC 3:7  I saw the tents of Ethiopia for their iniquity, the curtains of the land of Madian shall be troubled.
Haba VulgClem 3:7  Pro iniquitate vidi tentoria Æthiopiæ ; turbabuntur pelles terræ Madian.
Haba KJV 3:7  I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
Haba DRC 3:8  Wast thou angry, O Lord, with the rivers? or was thy wrath upon the rivers? or thy indignation in the sea? Who will ride upon thy horses: and thy chariots are salvation.
Haba VulgClem 3:8  Numquid in fluminibus iratus es, Domine ? aut in fluminibus furor tuus ? vel in mari indignatio tua ?
Haba KJV 3:8  Was the Lord displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?
Haba DRC 3:9  Thou wilt surely take up thy bow: according to the oaths which thou hast spoken to the tribes. Thou wilt divide the rivers of the earth.
Haba VulgClem 3:9  Suscitans suscitabis arcum tuum, juramenta tribubus quæ locutus es ; fluvios scindes terræ.
Haba KJV 3:9  Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
Haba DRC 3:10  The mountains saw thee, and were grieved: the great body of waters passed away. The deep put forth its voice: the deep lifted up its hands.
Haba VulgClem 3:10  Viderunt te, et doluerunt montes ; gurges aquarum transiit : dedit abyssus vocem suam ; altitudo manus suas levavit.
Haba KJV 3:10  The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.
Haba DRC 3:11  The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation, in the light of thy arrows, they shall go in the brightness of thy glittering spear.
Haba VulgClem 3:11  Sol et luna steterunt in habitaculo suo : in luce sagittarum tuarum ibunt, in splendore fulgurantis hastæ tuæ.
Haba KJV 3:11  The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
Haba DRC 3:12  In thy anger thou wilt tread the earth under foot: in thy wrath thou wilt astonish the nations.
Haba VulgClem 3:12  In fremitu conculcabis terram ; in furore obstupefacies gentes.
Haba KJV 3:12  Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
Haba DRC 3:13  Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people: for salvation with thy Christ. Thou struckest the head of the house of the wicked: thou hast laid bare his foundation even to the neck.
Haba VulgClem 3:13  Egressus es in salutem populi tui, in salutem cum christo tuo : percussisti caput de domo impii, denudasti fundamentum ejus usque ad collum.
Haba KJV 3:13  Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
Haba DRC 3:14  Thou hast cursed his sceptres, the head of his warriors, them that came out as a whirlwind to scatter me. Their joy was like that of him that devoureth the poor man in secret.
Haba VulgClem 3:14  Maledixisti sceptris ejus, capiti bellatorum ejus, venientibus ut turbo ad dispergendum me : exsultatio eorum, sicut ejus qui devorat pauperem in abscondito.
Haba KJV 3:14  Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
Haba DRC 3:15  Thou madest a way in the sea for thy horses, in the mud of many waters.
Haba VulgClem 3:15  Viam fecisti in mari equis tuis, in luto aquarum multarum.
Haba KJV 3:15  Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.
Haba DRC 3:16  I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded.
Haba KJV 3:16  When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
Haba DRC 3:17  For the fig tree shall not blossom: and there shall be no spring in the vines. The labour of the olive tree shall fail: and the fields shall yield no food: the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls.
Haba KJV 3:17  Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Haba DRC 3:18  But I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus.
Haba KJV 3:18  Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Haba DRC 3:19  The Lord God is my strength: and he will make my feet like the feet of harts: and he the conqueror will lead me upon my high places singing psalms.
Haba VulgClem 3:19  Deus Dominus fortitudo mea, et ponet pedes meos quasi cervorum : et super excelsa mea deducet me victor in psalmis canentem.
Haba KJV 3:19  The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
