Chapter 12
Luke DRC 12:1  And when great multitudes stood about him, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples: Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luke KJV 12:1  In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luke DRC 12:2  For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed: nor hidden that shall not be known.
Luke KJV 12:2  For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
Luke DRC 12:3  For whatsoever things you have spoken in darkness shall be published in the light: and that which you have spoken in the ear in the chambers shall be preached on the housetops.
Luke VulgClem 12:3  Quoniam quæ in tenebris dixistis, in lumine dicentur : et quod in aurem locuti estis in cubiculis, prædicabitur in tectis.
Luke KJV 12:3  Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Luke DRC 12:4  And I say to you, my friends: Be not afraid of them who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.
Luke KJV 12:4  And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Luke DRC 12:5  But I will shew you whom you shall fear: Fear ye him who, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell. Yea, I say to you: Fear him.
Luke VulgClem 12:5  Ostendam autem vobis quem timeatis : timete eum qui, postquam occiderit, habet potestatem mittere in gehennam : ita dico vobis, hunc timete.
Luke KJV 12:5  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Luke DRC 12:6  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Luke KJV 12:6  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Luke DRC 12:7  Yea, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.
Nolite ergo timere : multis passeribus pluris estis vos.
Luke KJV 12:7  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke DRC 12:8  And I say to you: Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
Luke VulgClem 12:8  Dico autem vobis : Omnis quicumque confessus fuerit me coram hominibus, et Filius hominis confitebitur illum coram angelis Dei :
Luke KJV 12:8  Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Luke DRC 12:9  But he that shall deny me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Luke VulgClem 12:9  qui autem negaverit me coram hominibus, negabitur coram angelis Dei.
Luke KJV 12:9  But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Luke DRC 12:10  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but to him that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven.
Luke KJV 12:10  And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Luke DRC 12:11  And when they shall bring you into the synagogues and to magistrates and powers, be not solicitous how or what you shall answer, or what you shall say.
Luke KJV 12:11  And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
Luke DRC 12:12  For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you must say.
Luke VulgClem 12:12  Spiritus enim Sanctus docebit vos in ipsa hora quid oporteat vos dicere.
Luke KJV 12:12  For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Luke DRC 12:13  And one of the multitude said to him: Master, speak to my brother that he divide the inheritance with me.
Luke KJV 12:13  And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Luke DRC 12:14  But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge or divider over you?
Luke VulgClem 12:14  At ille dixit illi : Homo, quis me constituit judicem, aut divisorem super vos ?
Luke KJV 12:14  And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
Luke DRC 12:15  And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness: for a man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth.
Luke KJV 12:15  And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Luke DRC 12:16  And he spoke a similitude to them, saying: The land of a certain rich man brought forth plenty of fruits.
Luke VulgClem 12:16  Dixit autem similitudinem ad illos, dicens : Hominis cujusdam divitis uberes fructus ager attulit :
Luke KJV 12:16  And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
Luke DRC 12:17  And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
Luke VulgClem 12:17  et cogitabat intra se dicens : Quid faciam, quia non habeo quo congregem fructus meos ?
Luke KJV 12:17  And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
Luke DRC 12:18  And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns and will build greater: and into them will I gather all things that are grown to me and my goods.
Luke KJV 12:18  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
Luke DRC 12:19  And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years. Take thy rest: eat, drink, make good cheer.
Luke VulgClem 12:19  et dicam animæ meæ : Anima, habes multa bona posita in annos plurimos : requiesce, comede, bibe, epulare.
Luke KJV 12:19  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Luke DRC 12:20  But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee. And whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?
Luke VulgClem 12:20  Dixit autem illi Deus : Stulte, hac nocte animam tuam repetunt a te : quæ autem parasti, cujus erunt ?
Luke KJV 12:20  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Luke DRC 12:21  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.
Luke KJV 12:21  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Luke DRC 12:22  And he said to his disciples: Therefore I say to you: Be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on.
Luke KJV 12:22  And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Luke DRC 12:23  The life is more than the meat: and the body is more than the raiment.
Luke KJV 12:23  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
Luke DRC 12:24  Consider the ravens, for they sow not, neither do they reap, neither have they storehouse nor barn, and God feedeth them. How much are you more valuable than they?
Quanto magis vos pluris estis illis ?
Luke KJV 12:24  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Luke DRC 12:25  And which of you by taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
Luke KJV 12:25  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
Luke DRC 12:26  If then ye be not able to do so much as the least thing, why are you solicitous for the rest?
Luke KJV 12:26  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
Luke DRC 12:27  Consider the lilies, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin. But I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.
Luke KJV 12:27  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Luke DRC 12:28  Now, if God clothe in this manner the grass that is to-day in the field and to-morrow is cast into the oven: how much more you, O ye of little faith?
Luke KJV 12:28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Luke DRC 12:29  And seek not what you shall eat or what you shall drink: and be not lifted up on high.
Luke VulgClem 12:29  Et vos nolite quærere quid manducetis, aut quid bibatis : et nolite in sublime tolli :
Luke KJV 12:29  And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
Luke DRC 12:30  For all these things do the nations of the world seek. But your Father knoweth that you have need of these things.
Luke VulgClem 12:30  hæc enim omnia gentes mundi quærunt. Pater autem vester scit quoniam his indigetis.
Luke KJV 12:30  For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
Luke DRC 12:31  But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his justice: and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luke VulgClem 12:31  Verumtamen quærite primum regnum Dei, et justitiam ejus : et hæc omnia adjicientur vobis.
Luke KJV 12:31  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luke DRC 12:32  Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.
Luke VulgClem 12:32  Nolite timere pusillus grex, quia complacuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum.
Luke KJV 12:32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke DRC 12:33  Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth.
Luke KJV 12:33  Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
Luke DRC 12:34  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke KJV 12:34  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke DRC 12:35  Let your loins be girt and lamps burning in your hands.
Luke VulgClem 12:35  Sint lumbi vestri præcincti, et lucernæ ardentes in manibus vestris,
Luke KJV 12:35  Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
Luke DRC 12:36  And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.
Luke KJV 12:36  And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Luke DRC 12:37  Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you that he will gird himself and make them sit down to meat and passing will minister unto them.
Luke KJV 12:37  Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Luke DRC 12:38  And if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so, blessed are those servants.
Luke KJV 12:38  And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
Luke DRC 12:39  But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch and would not suffer his house to be broken open.
Luke KJV 12:39  And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Luke DRC 12:40  Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not the Son of man will come.
Luke VulgClem 12:40  Et vos estote parati : quia qua hora non putatis, Filius hominis veniet.
Luke KJV 12:40  Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
Luke DRC 12:41  And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all?
Luke KJV 12:41  Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
Luke DRC 12:42  And the Lord said: Who thinkest thou is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season?
Luke KJV 12:42  And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
Luke DRC 12:43  Blessed is that servant whom, when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing.
Luke KJV 12:43  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Luke DRC 12:44  Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth.
Luke VulgClem 12:44  Vere dico vobis, quoniam supra omnia quæ possidet, constituet illum.
Luke KJV 12:44  Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
Luke DRC 12:45  But if that servant shall say in his heart: My Lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the men-servants and maid-servants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk:
Luke VulgClem 12:45  Quod si dixerit servus ille in corde suo : Moram facit dominus meus venire : et cœperit percutere servos, et ancillas, et edere, et bibere, et inebriari :
Luke KJV 12:45  But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
Luke DRC 12:46  The lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not, and at the hour that he knoweth not: and shall separate him and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers.
Luke KJV 12:46  The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Luke DRC 12:47  And that servant, who knew the will of his lord and prepared not himself and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Luke KJV 12:47  And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Luke DRC 12:48  But he that knew not and did things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more.
Luke KJV 12:48  But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Luke DRC 12:49  I am come to cast fire on the earth. And what will I, but that it be kindled?
Luke KJV 12:49  I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Luke DRC 12:50  And I have a baptism wherewith I am to be baptized. And how am I straitened until it be accomplished?
Luke KJV 12:50  But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Luke DRC 12:51  Think ye, that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no; but separation.
Luke VulgClem 12:51  Putatis quia pacem veni dare in terram ? non, dico vobis, sed separationem :
Luke KJV 12:51  Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Luke DRC 12:52  For there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three.
Luke KJV 12:52  For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Luke DRC 12:53  The father shall be divided against the son and the son against his father: the mother against the daughter and the daughter against her mother: the mother-in-law against the daughter-in-law and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Luke VulgClem 12:53  dividentur : pater in filium, et filius in patrem suum, mater in filiam, et filia in matrem, socrus in nurum suam, et nurus in socrum suam.
Luke KJV 12:53  The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Luke DRC 12:54  And he said also to the multitudes: When you see a cloud rising from the west, presently you say: A shower is coming. And so it happeneth.
Luke KJV 12:54  And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
Luke DRC 12:55  And when ye see the south wind blow, you say: There will heat. And it cometh to pass.
Luke KJV 12:55  And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
Luke DRC 12:56  You hypocrites, you know how to discern the face of the heaven and of the earth: but how is it that you do not discern this time?
Luke KJV 12:56  Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
Luke DRC 12:57  And why, even of yourselves, do you not judge that which is just?
Luke KJV 12:57  Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
Luke DRC 12:58  And when thou goest with thy adversary to the prince, whilst thou art in the way, endeavour to be delivered from him: lest perhaps he draw thee to he judge, and the judge deliver thee to the exacter, and the exacter cast thee into prison.
Luke KJV 12:58  When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
Luke DRC 12:59  I say to thee, thou shalt not go out thence until thou pay the very last mite.
Luke KJV 12:59  I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
