MARK
Chapter 6
Mark | RKJNT | 6:1 | And he went out from there, and came into his own country; and his disciples followed him.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:2 | And when the sabbath day came, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many who heard him were astonished, saying, Where did this man get these things? and what wisdom is this which is given to him, that even such miracles are performed by his hands?
Mark | RKJNT | 6:3 | Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, of Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended by him.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:4 | But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, except in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:5 | And he could do no miracles there, except to lay his hands upon a few sick people, and heal them.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:6 | And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went among the villages, teaching.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:7 | And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them forth two by two; and gave them authority over unclean spirits;
Mark | RKJNT | 6:8 | And commanded them to take nothing for their journey, except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts:
Mark | RKJNT | 6:10 | And he said to them, Wherever you enter a house, abide there until you depart from that place.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:11 | And whoever will not receive you, or hear you, when you depart from there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:13 | And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:14 | And King Herod heard of it; (for his name was spread abroad). And some said that John the Baptist had risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works showed themselves forth in him.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:15 | Others said, He is Elijah. And others said, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:16 | But when Herod heard of it, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he has risen from the dead.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:17 | For Herod himself had John arrested, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:19 | Therefore Herodias had a grudge against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
Mark | RKJNT | 6:20 | For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and kept him safe; and when he heard him, he was perplexed, but he enjoyed listening to him.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:21 | But an opportunity came on Herod's birthday, when he had a banquet for his lords, high captains, and chief men of Galilee;
Mark | RKJNT | 6:22 | When the daughter of Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, Ask of me whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:23 | And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:24 | And she went out, and said to her mother, For what shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:25 | And she came immediately in haste to the king, and asked, saying, I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:26 | The king was exceedingly sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for the sake of those who sat with him, he would not refuse her.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:27 | So immediately the king sent an executioner with orders that his head be brought. He went and beheaded him in the prison,
Mark | RKJNT | 6:28 | And brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl: and she gave it to her mother.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:29 | And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:30 | And the apostles gathered together with Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:31 | And he said to them, Come by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:33 | And the people saw them departing, and many recognized them, and ran there on foot from all the cities, and got there before them.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:34 | And Jesus, when he came ashore, saw many people, and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:35 | And when the day was almost gone, his disciples came to him, and said, This is a lonely place, and it is very late:
Mark | RKJNT | 6:36 | Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy bread for themselves: for they have nothing to eat.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:37 | He answered and said to them, You give them something to eat. And they said to him, Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii of bread, and give it to them to eat?
Mark | RKJNT | 6:38 | He said to them, How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they found out, they said, Five, and two fish.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:39 | And he commanded them to make all the people sit down in groups upon the green grass.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:41 | And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fish he divided among them all.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:45 | And immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he sent the people away.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:47 | And when evening had come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he was alone on the land.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:48 | And he saw them toiling at their rowing; for the wind was against them: and about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed them by.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:49 | But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out:
Mark | RKJNT | 6:50 | For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he spoke with them, and said to them, Take heart: it is I; do not be afraid.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:51 | And he joined them in the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were amazed beyond measure.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:52 | For they did not understand the miracle of the loaves: for their hearts were hardened.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:53 | And when they passed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.
Mark | RKJNT | 6:55 | And ran throughout that whole region, and began to carry the sick about on mats, to wherever they heard he was.
